is what I hope resounds with this audience when leaving the theater
for example, I was in Berkeley partly out of interest in the wake of the 'riots'
I was a little disappointed that there were absolutely no signs of any demonstrations or protests...1 week later.
but walking around that campus, it is painfully obvious there are a lack of black students
there's a line in the movie about the black population growing in SF by 89%
after the movie I went to SF for a Dilla event
and again, just walking around, it should be painfully obvious that there is a lack of black residents
IMO, the reason these types of audiences turn out, is partly what I also stated in my reply above
they are trying to prove how liberal, progressive, open-minded, accepting, etc...that they are
can't live with their liberal pass being revoked
but when they leave that theater, and look around the town they live in
it should be apparent, they are full of shit.
I'm also tired of seeing movies like this, but I think it's necessary to reach that audience
they aren't going to join any black focused movements/causes...for the most part
so this is a less confrontational, controversial way to get informed
what they do with the information is a reflection on them.
for most, I assume it is something to discuss over tea or at the water cooler on monday
...poor shame what we did to those blacks...
but maybe it will really be insightful for some
and that's my hope from cross referencing civil rights with Ferguson
that they'll be able to see this is still happening on their watch
