"Miles Morales to be Spider-Man in animated film"

Sony’s ‘Untitled Animated Spider-Man Project’ Will Bring Miles Morales to the Screen

During a presentation by Sony Pictures Animation for their upcoming film slate, some details for their Untitled Animated Spider-Man Project were revealed at long last. In addition to the confirmation that the project would be a stand-alone feature, it’s now official: Miles Morales is coming to the big screen! We’ll have more up shortly, but for now, take a look at Sony’s announcements.

Written by Phil Lord and executive produced by Lord and Chris Miller, and directed by Bob Persichetti (The Little Prince) and Peter Ramsey (Rise of the Guardians), the Sony film is due to open December 21, 2018.

Check out Sony’s live-tweet of the event below:

"Aww, the original Spider-Man is taking the little spidernigger under his web. So sweet and adorable."
I loved the idea of the Black Spider-Man, but they just could not give him his own standalone journey. On top of that, he's not even special b/c there are 3 "spider people" in the trailer alone lol. I've seen a few Spider-Man movies, and every single one of them features Spider-Man finding his own way... never been an older spiderguy show up to help him (IronMan helps the newer one by building him a suit). It just so happens to be the case for the Black one tho... little nigger just can't figure it out for himself lol. I mean, there have been many depictions of young Spider-Men, but why has there never been an older one show up? This is driving home the fact that this is THE BLACK one and is blatantly about race and appealing to racists imo. He can't just be "Spider-Man" and this was kind of a clever way to make that clear. We'll eat up anything with a Black lead tho.

Plus they've gotta get the racists to come out, b/c why would they show up if there's no white man leading the way? Dude has a Black father (who's a cop... surprise!) Awesome, yet his real father figure (the one seen teaching him lessons) is the white dude while his biological dad is a goofball who's only good for embarrassing him (granted this is just the trailer, but this is what they chose to show, so hey). Not to mention he's the least experienced "spider person" in the film behind the two white male and female we meet lol. The inexperience is just part of his story and would be fine with me if he was finding his own way like every other white Spider-Man I've ever seen.

I know, I know... yall gon say I hate everything. I really don't tho. I'm just not impressed by this. I won't be surprised if he's not a genius in the movie either. I mean they totally took that aspect from Black Panther's big screen depiction. Seems like there shall be no heterosexual Black male genius as a good guy in these films. If I'm wrong, show me one. Even w/ DC, Cyborg is just a head... reminds me of the castrated Black dude on GoT. And PS for yall who say "but it's white folks stuff tho"... cool, then why are you excited for a disrespectful (or at the very least, unequal) depiction of yourself from white folks? Said differently, why are you excited for a depiction of yourself catered to racists?

Why you gotta analyze everything so closely Boogie?
Well, this is what we're feeding our children, and then wonder why they grow up valuing whiteness over themselves, being depressed, suicide rates rising like mad among Black boys, etc etc etc.

Fuck it I'm on one.

Anymore useless advice?
You've given me plenty and even called me some pretty unflattering names. I don't go in b/c you're young and might need time for things to "elevate in ya dome" (c)J.Prince. That grace period is closing fast tho.

>its not that deep.

It's *always* that deep, young man. Racism takes no breaks, but we consistently fail to recognize how it works and to implement counter-racist measures. I'm not sure how you think we have Trump in office w/ so much support in 2018, but it isn't b/c racism is dead or dying. I cite that only b/c the only time I've ever seen you NOT treat something as insignificant is when you were advocating the election of Hillary Clinton (who is also racist along w/ the majority of her supporters). Every other issue is "not that deep" or "not a big deal"... something you brush off. As for this movie, you couldn't even see the racism in Star Wars: TFA, and you're a gamer who constantly denies racism unless it's extra blatant and brutal, so I really don't expect much in the way of awareness or analysis from you when you can't see the normalized daily attitudes and operations that make the blatant occurrences more palatable, so to speak.

see im always amused at how people project on here based on the little snippet of info you give them from posts.

im a gamer? i play fifa. that's about it. miss me with AWL of that
advocating for the election of hillary? compared to trump you damn right. i'll go for the lesser of 2 evils 10 times out of 10.

you jumped off the cliff straight to racism because you were simply misinformed about what the movie was about. but im the one that's wrong here. right.

It's there in the Star Wars: TFA post which I don't feel like digging up at the moment.
Apology accepted tho.

>advocating for the election of hillary? compared to trump you
>damn right. i'll go for the lesser of 2 evils 10 times out of
>10.

I didn't criticize your advocacy tho. I said that's the only time I've ever seen you be serious about anything, and therefore used it to facilitate a point I was making. I explained this above. As someone who claims to consistently be the smartest person in the room, this should be easy for you to understand.

>you jumped off the cliff straight to racism because you were
>simply misinformed about what the movie was about. but im the
>one that's wrong here. right.

I know what it's about, and my criticism stands.
I'm not sure what you think I'm telling that you're wrong about... depending on what it is, that might be worth discussing, but the whole "it ain't that deep" criticism is very tired, my dude. I know better than that. Alotta yall are the same people who say racism isn't in shows like GoT, then when I point it out, yall say it doesn't matter, so really what is there to discuss when I've literally proven that it IS that deep, and you still don't care? Why even address me at that point?

You start talking about how all the other Spider-Man movies have him finding his own way except the most recent one you even acknowledge, betraying your own point. It’s actually ok if they frame Miles’ big screen debut with a multi universe story so general audiences can get it.

Then you say Peter is his real father figure based on nothing but cynicism, never mind the Peter teaching him looks homeless and can’t pay for his own meal; he’s white so you see him in a good light regardless of what he does. Can’t even be happy that his father is there and loving in the trailer, he embarrasses him like fathers do so this will lead to black boys killing themselves! Seriously?

You’ve internalized and are addicted to applying negativity to anything a black person just being might do, even fictional characters. And you hiding that negativity behind some “vigilant wokeness” that us other dumb or otherwise inadequate and lesser blacks don’t see.

Man, you know you need to stop.

Peter Parker never met Peter Parker in a movie before because that not really interesting as Peter meeting another Spider-Man. This is simple storytelling shit but there are black folks involved, so of course there will be negativity applied to whatever they may do. I swear, black people can’t do shit

Miles Morales never been a genius superhero, either. Sorry Ryan Coogler didn’t make Black Panther super genius enough for you and gave that trait to a young black girl character but fuck them right?

>You start talking about how all the other Spider-Man movies
>have him finding his own way except the most recent one you
>even acknowledge, betraying your own point.

I literally said "never been an older spiderguy show up to help him", so no, Homecoming doesn't "betray" my own point. I also said he's not special, because there are two other spider-people in it. Plus Homecoming is what... the 6th Spiderman movie on the big screen? Peter had plenty shots at being his own superhero. But who knows, maybe they've realized Spidey isn't a draw on his own in general and they don't want another one to fail. That's a genial way to see it.

>It’s actually ok
>if they frame Miles’ big screen debut with a multi universe
>story so general audiences can get it.

And it's ok if you feel that way.

>Then you say Peter is his real father figure based on nothing
>by cynicism, never mind the Peter teaching him looks homeless

Well that was a pretty loaded slab of lies.
The whole "you see him in a good light regardless of what he does" makes zero sense. I said he's shown as Miles' teacher. Is this right or wrong, sir?
I also didn't say I wasn't happy about his father being there, but this reads like some "man just be happy with whatever they give us!" type of stuff. I'm criticizing it, duke. I have that right, and I'm not going to rejoice *solely* b/c he's present.
I also didn't say his father embarrassing him leads to suicide. You're just pasted different sentences together from what I wrote rather than reading the sentences as they're written.

>You’ve internalized and are addicted to applying negativity
>to anything a black person just being might do, even fictional
>characters. And you hiding that negativity behind some
>“vigilant wokeness” that is other dumb blacks don’t see.

Listen man. If you don't see what I'm seeing, that's fine. But you feeling dumb doesn't mean I'm calling you dumb. That's your issue to deal with.
Also, if I see negativity in the way Black folks are depicted as opposed to the way others are, that doesn't mean I associate negativity with everything Black. That accusation actually makes no sense, especially since I've pointed out depictions of Black people on screen that I *do* like. How could I ever do that if I associate negativity with anything a Black person might do?

>Man, you know you need to stop.

Nah I'ma keep going.

>Miles Morales never been a genius superhero, either.

Oh I'm so shocked that the Black spider-man happens not to be.

>Sorry
>Ryan Coogler didn’t make Black Panther super genius enough
>for you and gave that trait to a young black girl character
>but fuck them right?

I'm pretty sure that wasn't Ryan's decision to make.
Black Panther is a genius in the comic tho. So they just randomly decided to change that about his character. I guess that's just more "regular storytelling" to you. Not sure what your issue is with the young Black woman, but that wasn't my issue. I already stated mine and have many times. You're reading it wrong b/c you want to.

There is a bit of back and forth on why/who Spiderman/Miles Morales was created for.

Some Background:
Link https://comicsverse.com/looking-back-at-miles-morales-and-brian-michael-bendis/

(cant find the link now) IF my memory serves me, I remember interviews with BM Bendis where he stated that the main impetus for writing Miles was looking at his family, he has two adopted (b)lack children and thought that why shouldn't a main character look like them.
------------------------------------------------------------------

With that said, I have several issues with the comic too. First Miles is an afro-latino but only so because his father is african american and is mother is a puerto rican american. The african diaspora I guess doesn't exist.

How many stereotype/tropes do you count: Miles' family (uncle)are criminals. Miles' parental status - his father is absent/his parents are/aren't together. Miles is struggling as a student. How would you describe his asian best friend (one guess, you won't be wrong). Who does Miles (black guy) pine after romantically and eventually marries?

Stereotypical brush or accurate depiction of our society?
I am on the fence. There needs to be diverse faces in all media outlets and positive depictions to outweigh the overwhelming tendency to show the negative.

This movie fucking rules.

It's amazing that this is coming on the heels of Venom from the same producers and one is a shit show cash grab and this one is made by people really give a fuck.

Lots of heart, but more importantly lots of imagination. So many hip-hop and comic Easter Eggs.

The violence is a lot for a kids movie but man I can't wait to take my godson to see this (this must be a wild ride in 3D).

The sound design and mixing in Dolby Atmos is amazing b. I feel really bad for Mortal Engines.
