"Jennifer Lawrence used sacred Hawaiian rocks to scratch her ass"
Fri Dec-09-16 03:03 PM by legsdiamond

https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/dec/09/jennifer-lawrence-offends-with-story-about-butt-scratching-on-sacred-rocks

Jennifer Lawrence has drawn scathing criticism for an anecdote she told on the BBC, about disrespecting local customs while shooting in Hawaii.

In a recent interview, Lawrence told a story about “butt-scratchin’” on rocks that are considered sacred to native Hawaiians, while shooting The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in 2012.

“There were … sacred … rocks — I dunno, they were ancestors, who knows — they were sacred,” said Lawrence. “And you’re not supposed to sit on them, because you’re not supposed to expose your genitalia to them....

“I, however, was in a wetsuit for this whole shoot – oh my god, they were so good for butt itching!”

Waving a glass of white wine and at times unable to speak due to laughter, Lawrence said, “one rock that I was butt-scratchin’ on came loose”, prompting a landslide.

“And all the Hawaiians were like: ‘Oh my god, it’s the curse!’” she said, imitating shaking her first at the sky. “And I’m in the corner going, I’m your curse. I wedged it loose with my ass.”

Lawrence was not specific about where or when the incident took place, but Catching Fire was shot at various locations around Hawaii, including Maui, in late 2012.

Removing black sand or lava rocks is thought to cause bad luck under what is known locally as “Pele’s curse”.

Hahaha... this is so funny.

on account of me looking Samoan

But to get to the point just now saw this debate on facebook

It's ridiculous, but sadly unsurprising that her reaction is so unapologetic.

"just a pile of rocks, you backwards idiots" but how about I piss in your holy water?

it's amazing that people who do something ignorant within another culture will double down when confronted about their mistake.

I think I hate her now. You see/hear a lot of this type of shit from white tourists AKA haoles in Hawaii.

One time in Hawaii my girlfriend's Mom was trying to explain to someone what haole meant. She said it's like calling a black person a nigger. I had to keep myself from ruining the whole trip right then.

As the saying goes, you don't know a person until you've walked a mile in their shoes. They should come back mainland side like "I only had to deal with it on vacation, THEY have to deal with it for their entire lives!"

Seems pretty accurate given the historic

Her career is about to be done.

Starting next year, of course, cause this joint with Pratt is about to be fire.

I eagerly await the endless stream of youtube videos detailing the link to this incident and her decline.

I don't know....I can't see there being a widespread consensus that she's wrong for this which is unfortunate because she clearly is wrong. I just can't see white people getting collectively enraged about this.

Edit: it occurred to me you might be being sarcastic. My bad.

It's not a sequel to anything as far as I know & I question the draw of those actors in non franchise action science fiction film

Wished it was longer.

Anthony Bourdain's food show just did an episode on Hawaii and I thought did a reasonably good job touching on some of the racial dynamics. Not anything too in-depth but it gave some interesting perspectives I thought. I dig Tony.

My first exposure to these issues came from surf documentaries. Lance Hamilton talked about growing up there with beach-blond hair and how it was kinda rough for him. There's a flick called 'Bustin Down the Door' about some rather obnoxious Aussies who moved there and caught alot of static for being the self-entitled tourist types. It was kinda interesting to show how the white surfing culture differed from the more traditional native surf culture. There's also an ESPN one called 'The legend of Eddie Aikau' which was fabulous.

NC teacher suspended for stepping on American flag during 1st Amendment lesson

POSTED 5:05 PM, DECEMBER 2, 2016, BY ASSOCIATED PRESS

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A North Carolina school board has upheld the 10-day suspension of a high school teacher who stepped on an American flag during a First Amendment lesson.

The Cumberland County Board of Education voted 5-2 Wednesday to support Superintendent Frank Till’s decision. Board members considered Lee Francis’ appeal for more than eight hours behind closed doors.

Whether Lee returns to his job teaching history at Massey Hill Classical High School rests with Till.

Lee has been working in the district office since Till recommended the unpaid suspension in September.

He says he was teaching about a 1989 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that flag desecration is protected speech. Francis says he stepped on the flag several times with his right foot.
