I had a lover once that owed me money
when I asked for it
he said I was lying about it...

I would ask, "why would I lie?
he could never answer
I finally got it from him...

had another woman ask me this exact same thing... I do not know why you are asking me this, really.

I thought you were suggesting saying to her :"What is wrong with you?" or something like that, trying to be funny or somthing

Or "What is wrong with me?", like I'm oblivious to some things obviously very clear to women or something and that I should perhaps be funny and stuf, I DON'T KNOW, lol

I dunno... might contact her tonight.

edit : I didn't tell her i wasn't feeling well, just told her I needed some time for myself

rn it's shaped kinda like the bottom right. but I don't twist it down to the root anymore. Just little curl twists on the surface to give it a little texture. Makes it much easier to wash and maintain.

11. "how long have you been natural?"
In response to Reply # 0
Fri Dec-09-16 12:35 PM by jane eyre

i still feel like a newbie, but going 4 years strong.

i've been a product junkie, but at some point, i accepted my hair had a mind of its own. i figured out how to enhance however my hair was growing vs. forcing my hair to look like ______________.

i also focused on learning how to style my hair vs. chasing products, which helped me feel like i was getting my hair situation together.

random: bantu knot outs do nada for me and that's so frustrating! lol.

my hair still changes and has phases that feel difficult. but so far, the phases have passed. scarves and "accoutrements" have been good to me.

everybody's natural hair experience is different and people should do what works for them!

do you watch any natural hair youtubers?

I appreciate the response

products have never really worked for me. or maybe i should say the way i was selecting products never worked for me.

i have low porosity hair. in my world, how that works out: most products just sit on top of my head and do nothing they advertise or create a weird, dry, texture.

discovering the low porosity issue led me to make my own stuff from natural ingredients. that simplified things. i pretty much use water and a homemade conditioner and call it a day. mind you, this is after a lot of trial and error.

product lines, off the top of my head, that did nothing for me:
camille rose (almost traumatizing)
carol's daughter
ouidad
oyin handmade
shea moisture (started off ok, then not)
miss jessie
as i am
kinky-curly
andre walker

there are a LOT more but that's all i can think of right now.

lol i was asking about youtube b/c i wondered if you had recommendations. i randomly look around youtube. my standard: if it looks do-able for me and the length and thickness of the hair type is enough of a match, i'll try it. my hair, stretched, is at my shoulders.

i get annoyed by her sometimes and it's all petty on my part, but she has some good videos. not sure if she's covering what you need, though:

I think I was on Curly Nikki. And then it was down the Google and Youtube rabbit hole from there.

My research helped me to do better with reading labels, so I could determine if the ingredients in a product were right for my hair.

Recently, I've seen a few products popping up that claim to be shampoo and conditioner for low porosity natural hair. I've resisted, especially because I have a routine that works.

stylist put some layers in... my twist out is banging...

she also gave me a blowout when she did it. so i left my hair straight for 2 weeks. stylist showed me how to put my straight hair in a top bun at night, and just let it loose in the morning. the curls stayed for the full 2 weeks, and my hair did not revert. was a miracle. i didn't have to run a comb or recurl my hair the entire 2 weeks.

for products i mostly use jojoba oil and shea butter whip which i make myself. i just added avocado oil to my regime as per the suggestion of my stylist. I bought some devacurl no-poo decadence, which is a splurge. haven't used it yet. my other splurge is camille rose almond jai twisting butter. i use kinky curly knot today, but since i usually water it down in a spray bottle with some oil and aloe vera juice to spritz my hair, one bottle can last for up to 6 months...

relaxer or something

She buys new hair products EVERY TIME SHE WASHES HER HAIR. Dang, all these years and you still haven't found ONE hair product that works well? Just wasting money.

We have an unused bedroom that had so many hair products piled up in there, my kids used to call it the "hair room"

and I have a 7 yr old daughter too. So if its not a new hair product she's buying for herself, its something she wants to 'try out' on our daughter. SMH.

for the most part, I think it's every woman struggle
what to do with our hair and God forbids if we have daughters, lol

I'll tell you tho - it was easier when I had my dreadlocks.

I appreciate the male perspective
but tell me, why does it bother you?

that is overflowing with hair products. I prefer when she's natural instead of the extensions but she is less stressed with the extensions.

cop a hot comb, use that shit and go. It's still your "natural hair" just not in it's natural state.

Because once you get a routine going, it'll be easier.

The worst thing is to rush the process (rushed hair is broken hair) and/or get frustrated.

Just have fun with it. Natural hair sucks when it stops being fun.

I keep my hair between 1/8" and 1/16" now though, so I can't say anything. lol
Eventually I'll grow it out for locs, but I gotta have time for life before that.

I was mindful of your advice and played in it all weekend. I still don't understand my hair type...one side does things the other won't and I don't know how what to do with it.

It's wild and I don't care...

the children did say it was ugly tho lol

Good morning

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*
