In the tri-state area those terms get tossed around. Especially if you buy a certain type of sandwich. Its complicated. If its 12 inches or more on italian bread its a hero or sub. A similar sandwich under 12 inches is called a hoagie. A sandwich on a roll or sliced bread is called a sandwich.

Not a philly thing at all..
Chester was the main industrial port off of the Delaware River back in the 1930's to the 1960's. Italian immigrants first moved there for settlement and work before they moved into Philadelphia. They would get creative with their sandwich making while working at the jobs. Blacks would take notice and call them "Honky" sandwiches. That terminology would then derive into "Hoagie".
-No sandwich in the city of Philly/NJ will ever son a Chester/Delaware County hoagie.
-"Real" hoagies still don't use lettuce to this day. These sandwich makers will tell you its bullshit filler.
-"Nigerian hoagies" are only found in Chester/ Delaware Country. Nigerian Hoagies are sandwiches with that has turkey, corned beef, and roast beef..no pork. A Nigerian immigrant kept coming in an Italian sandwich shop to order that combo. Once they found out he was from Nigeria, they named it the Nigerian Hoagie.

* Fake freeway is usually a US route or State Highway that isn't quite a freeway. Usually cuts thru a town and may have guard rails in some parts like a freeway (but isn't) or will be a wide ass street where speeds are 55 to 65 mph. Will eventually run into street lights at some point.
Some examples are Memorial Parkway and University Dr in Huntsville, AL, Business 90 in the West Bank of the New Orleans area.
