you can see if the emission monitors are set. If they're all "not ready"...may mean they recently cleared the check engine light and there's some funny business going on.

when someone asks me to go look at a car with them...I take a scanner, look under the hood, look underneath the car with an inspection mirror and a bunch of other shit. If dude wants to sell the car, he won't mind.
