"People who jump from MLM scheme to MLM scheme? What are they thinking?"

I swear this one woman I know is on her 5th scheme this year.
I would think if you got caught up once and it didn't work out, you'd realize it's not the line of work for you.

But no. She's back out there hocking health supplements and encouraging you to join her team to become an entrepreneur.

To me it seems it all depends on what wave of the scheme you are in. My dude is always the first a new scheme and is on the next one when the old scheme starts falling apart.

We were like "you selling coffee?" years ago. paid for his home and his benz. By the time the sad sacks were trying to get me to buy their coffee years later he was on to something new.

If there's no emphasis on selling the actual product and instead on recruiting recruiters to recruit more recruiters, that shit is only going to pop for early adopters and a small handful of folks who have an uncanny knack for it.

Who the fuck serves Kool-Aid? I drink that shit like the crack it is, on some weekend recreational shit at 11PM when nobody is around to witness my shameful act. Never in my life have I actually served it to guests let alone someone I'm trying to sell a hope and a wish to.

more practical issue at play. What kind of cheap is presentation is that? Orange drink?

To me that's even more hilarious than the obvious cult overtones. You're trying to sell people on how much money they're gonna make and you can't even spring for a few bottles of Coke and Sprite.

All those houses, all those cars, all those stacks of cash and these guys can't shell out a few extra quarters for some Tropicana?

fucking pissed we used a broker but whatever, we were in a time crunch.

Anyway, since ole girl saw we had a nice little bit of money saved up she hit me with the "I have an opportunity for you since you work from home"

so I'm sitting at the computer watching this little presentation when it hits me. My wife asked me what they were selling and I screamed out DREAMS AND TEARS...DREAMS AND TEARS.

They were selling videophones for landlines. Who the fuck is going to buy 1 videophone?

but these people had to be at the top cause my neighbor 2 doors down who was asian, rocked crispy vintage nikes and owned a nice ass brownstone was in on the shit.

been switching either. He's been doing it for like 5 years now and is essentially in a small circle at the top of the worldwide pyramid so he earning well into the six figures, has property that he owns on both coasts, all kinds of crazy cars, etc.

It sucks seeing him on social media flaunting all that to basically scam people working under him. I have other family who are doing it and aren't at the top but making decent money, but a TON of other people who are making nothing or losing money. And they ALL repost his pics and posts living through him like "we up next!!!"

Because if you're at the top of the pyramid, it's the easiest money you can possibly make. But you've basically got to be cult leader-level charismatic (and you've got to have zero scruples about bilking already struggling people out of their money.)

I go back and forth on whether or not this is shadier than an actual cult. Because while you know people are going to go broke in these MLM schemes, there's at least a sliver of a chance that an E-meter really can rid my corporeal vessel of invasive thetans.

Dude was telling me the ins and outs of being a car salesman and i just couldn't do it.

In response to Reply # 20

Because I've had mostly pretty good experiences with car salesmen. But I've definitely seen some shady types out there, usually of the "What's your price range? Cool, here's a bunch of cars outside of that" style.

But is it that bad? I'd figure since you're at least selling a real product, you can't be too much of a scam artist.

In response to Reply # 29

Dude said they do this 4 square model on a piece of paper that asks you how much are you willing to spend on the price of the car, your trade in, your monthly payments and your down payment. Alot of people just focus on one area like the total cost of the car Or their monthly payments but not all those categories.

Once the salesperson knows which category you are focused on, they will stay within that parameter and fudge the other numbers to their benefit.

Someone will be happy to get payments under $200 a month not focusing on the loan length or that they got less than half the value of their trade in.

Sales people don't usually deal with the warranties bc the salesperson is bigging up how reliable the car is. He can't offer you a warranty in the next breath. They leave that to the finance manager off the floor. He's usually tucked away out of sight in an office away from shoppers

have you been to those houses?

I know some people are caked up but I always side eye when people post photos of their success.

That's part of the sell.

I picked up a few kids at an ACN seminar in Charlotte a year ago and they couldn't tell me what they were selling. They flew in from Cali.

They have these seminars at the Charlotte Hornets arena every year and it's packed and it's not a bunch of negros. It's white folk, asians, latinos...

It's definitely part of the sell, but he is legit paid. His mom was a real estate broker for over 20 years and she retired to help him in his MLM stuff. Part of him buying property is to insulate himself if the MLM ever falls through. He's bright, he's a great speaker, and he got into that business early enough that he is at the top of the pyramid. He's clearly the exception to the rule.

He also has little to no conscious so he doesn't care about scamming a ton of people.

I figure he will eventually land in politics or religion.

I remember Case One always defending MLM's as well.

Hell, I went to a meeting with my bosses wife that was supposed to be about a tutorial on Facebook advertising and that shit smelled like an MLM scheme.

Realized the guy doing all the talking want really selling anything besides a book and a membership to his wizardry.

We bounced early before the raffle for an iPad but after the meal and I got a call at the office telling me I won the iPad but since I wasn't there they gave it to someone else.

Fucking liars.

Are these house flipping seminars MLM's as well?

In response to Reply # 0

While he was working....

....at Best Buy.

I think I shared the story here actually.

I forget a lot of the details but the gist is that I was playing around on a keyboard and he walks up and asks about me playing the keys and if I’d like to do it full time and whatnot.

Bear in mind that I had a narrow escape from the Primerica trap about a year prior to this. It was a coworker who signed me up. I had canceled the check I gave him right after he signed me up.

Anyhow the Best Buy dude hit me up while he was working, as if that isn’t a big ass billboard advertising that he hasn’t quite attained the sort of success he was selling.

A couple years later my wife’s cousin’s husband hit me up. Dude was drawing the same diagrams the former coworker drew me and tried to tell me how structure of any job is a pyramid as though that’s ever the issue people have with pyramid schemes. I quietly schooled him on the industry while he spewed canned MLM rhetoric.

Rule #1: if the primary source of income is derived from recruiting and signing people up to recruit and sign up other people while the primary consumers of the end product are people in that downline? Pass on that shit.

Right now my broyther in law and his wife are pushing that MCA nonsense heavy on FB. We had a recent visit and to my relief he didn’t bring it up once over the course of three days. His FB is still lit but it’s nice to know he’s not pushing that shit on his family.

that's that bullshit the people that run the scams tell them to say.

fuckouttahere

10/10 the person saying it ain't living a life you'd want to trade to get.

i've come across HUNDREDS of people on that hustle and i've seen exactly TWO get money: a guy i went to Morgan with that hustles ACN and a guy i met in Jersey that got good money with Herbalife & Amway & burglar alarms. come to think of it, he never had a square job in his life. just jumps from hustle to husle squeezing out every dollar he can before moving on.

Up in Target minding my own business. Buying some goods for the house. I'm a friendly type of dude, so I guess i'm approachable and shit. I keep running into the same lady with her kids every few aisles. The whole time her kids are wilding and she's all calm and shit, smiling at me every time we cross paths. This is before I had kids btw.

Finally, we cross paths in one of those secluded aisles in the back. She strikes up a convo, apologized for her wild kids...all of a sudden, I notice that the kids are GONE! WTF??

She starts laughing saying "My husband FINALLY came to relieve me!" "We're new to the area and just shopping for some stuff for our new house."
I was like "Cool. I know the feeling." Then we start talking about the DC region, the cost of living, traffic, etc....
YO!! SHE WAS A PRO fam...a PRO...
Before I even peeped what was going down, she'd smooth transitioned and flipped the script talking about "Yeah, it was kinda hard just being away from our family, but financially we are set. It's a blessing we've been able to start our own business, and we work from home so we don't have to deal with traffic. You might be a great fit for our business. Would you like to give me your number so that I can invite you to our next session?"

Fam...
smh....
I felt like the biggest of schmucks for falling for it....

"I thought it was me..." - BBD.

48. "My wife sells LuLaRoe. We don’t recruit anyone"
In response to Reply # 0
Tue Nov-15-16 05:54 PM by Cold Truth

She holds her sales and sales clothes. The end. We don’t hit up our friends outside of invites to the occasional event and most people in our circle hit us up when they want to buy.

Some people recruit. Her friend recruited us and very quickly built a team underneath them and ball out now. They don’t have young children and were in prime position to basically work themselves to the bone and made that shit pop in big way. We never recruited anyone, not one time, though we did get a few unsolicited inquiries.

We’re about to bow out of that for reasons I’ll probably post about another day, but the ONLY reason I said go for it was because there’s an actual product to sell with an established demand and the “system” entailed selling that product. I didn’t- and don’t, until or unless something changes- consider them an MLM company but they do have other problems.

In terms of soliciting, eh. I guess she did that to a degree. My wife carries around leggings and never hands out a business card unless she’s giving away a pair of leggings. She never got comfortable doing sales though and even the slightest follow up efforts gave her anxiety because she worried about being pushy.

Another distasteful trend we found was that when we did events and setup shop at, say, a street fair or holiday boutique to SELL CLOTHES, we'd inevitably get hit with legions of people who perused and made polite conversation before not buying anything but giving us their own business card and inviting us to do a joint party. One lady had some sort of cleaning towels she wanted to get us into and do a joint party where we essentially swap customers, like the two products even remotely relate.

You can make it work... especially if everyone under them is giving them a cut. Easy money.

My boy tried 5links and since he is a pastor it worked well for a few but this is ACN territory and I think he ran out of clients. He kept trying to pitch to me to the point I avoided his calls for a while.

One thing I know is you have to spend money to make it. Renting out hotel conference rooms and shit.

Also, I went to a recruitment event like 15 years ago where they were pumping all this super loud Oontz music to try to get everyone pumped. When the head woman said I had to pay $100 to join I knew it was b.s. and bounced.

She isn't a salesman at all tho so I knew it would be a waste of money.

My wife makes earrings and scarves and anytime she gets a compliment she says thanks instead of telling them she makes and sells them so until she gets better at selling those there is no need to add another distraction.
