"New Balance supports Donald Trump to avoid a narrow path."

I dunno how I feel about this because I regularly rock New Balance Minimus sneakers.

New Balance Sneakers Give a Thumbs-up to Donald Trump’s Win
By Theresa Avila

Now that the election is over, it’s pretty easy to tell who was in favor of which candidate (based on your reaction, of course). But we’re not just learning who supported whom — we’re also learning what supported whom. While Hillary Clinton commanded the support of many a fashion designer and influencer during her campaign, it turns out Donald Trump has the support of at least one sneaker company: New Balance. The company’s vice-president of public affairs told a Wall Street Journal reporter that the company felt that the Obama administration turned a “deaf ear” to them, and they feel as if things will “move in the right direction” with Trump.

This per NB VP public affairs. New Balance has publicly opposed TPP. https://twitter.com/germanotes/status/796479327911247876

Trump spoke out heavily against the Trans-Pacific Trade Partnership, or TPP, while on the campaign trail. For its part, New Balance has critiqued the agreement for its impact on business stateside, so it’s little surprise to learn the company is happier with a president-elect who wants to do away with the deal.

I'm not worried about New Balance prospering because I'm sure they'll be fine; I'm conflicted because I like their product, at least their Minimus sneaker line, but I don't feel comfortable rocking their sneakers in public anymore.

I feel a bit off rocking my pair for Minimus sneakers since those big capital N's on the side stand out quite a bit. I love them though and there aren't too many places that sell minimalist type footwear in brick and mortar stores here in NYC. I'll do some sleuthing tonight when I get home to look up some alternative footwear for me to rock so I can buy them in a store tomorrow.

they didn't fit. Was gonna order a larger size, in a different color as well since they sold out, until I read about this yesterday. I honestly don't know how I feel about this because I get why they back him but I can't, right now, reconcile it with all of the other shit that comes with backing him.

In Baltimore, these are a staple. I wonder what the bros gonna do when or if they hear about this.

As a person born in a city devastated by NAFTA and a person finding that I can't compete with Rajesh or Oleksiy for freelance IT work, I wholeheartedly support dropping any trade deal or whatnot that's unfair to American workers.

New Balance makes their shoes here in the US. For that I applaud them and I support their stance.

We'll call him "Yaozu". Yaozu is from China as best I can tell. He's the Hadoop engineer for a project I've been working on with a client. Yaozu is also a freelancer and, by looking at his profile and my client's profile I can see that dude is charging around $8/hr for the work he's doing.

Hadoop engineers usually don't get out of bed for anything south of 6 figures.

I'm CONSTANTLY having to fix this dude's fuck-ups. I do more work fixing shit he breaks than actually supporting the project properly. My client hit me on Skype like "I think maybe Yaozu overstated his abilities..."

No shit... He messaged me to ask how does he make directories under Linux two weeks ago.

Other shoe companies shitty ways never stopped me from buying their shoes. If I like the product, I'll buy it.

NB is just a brand I've never gotten around to trying. For the casual lane that a lot of their more popular sneakers seem to be in, I've always gone Air Max 1, Air Max 90, or Saucony Grid.

https://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2016/04/11/new-balance-says-obama-administration-reneged-deal-involving-military-business/zUdUWa23ZWv53D5a9AjNII/story.html

New Balance is renewing its opposition to the far-reaching Pacific Rim trade deal, saying the Obama administration reneged on a promise to give the sneaker maker a fair shot at military business if it stopped bad-mouthing the agreement.

After several years of resistance to the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a pact aimed at making it easier to conduct trade among the United States and 11 other countries, the Boston company had gone quiet last year. New Balance officials say one big reason is that they were told the Department of Defense would give them serious consideration for a contract to outfit recruits with athletic shoes.

But no order has been placed, and New Balance officials say the Pentagon is intentionally delaying any purchase.

New Balance is reviving its fight against the trade deal, which would, in part, gradually phase out tariffs on shoes made in Vietnam. A loss of those tariffs, the company says, would make imports cheaper and jeopardize its factory jobs in New England.

If I still had my biz and factories in America why would I support a trade deal that hurts my company?

..and if the military doesn't get their shoes from NB where are we getting them from?

Seems ass backwards for our military to get shoes made in China.

I wonder what percentage of sneakers New Balance actually makes in the US though. I have two pairs of NB Minimus sneakers at home now; one is US made and one was made in China. Interesting the military would go out of their way to not get US made footwear as mentioned in that article.

they also have factories in the UK, didn't go to china until the 80's to keep up with the other brands.

in 2006 they said 25% of shoes were made in the USA.

In response to Reply # 33

were made in China and another pair of New Balance Minimus Trainer sneakers I bought a month after were assembled in Vietnam.

Last I checked, neither are located in America.

I feel a little guilt free since I got huge discounts on both sneakers from shoebuy.com, and these are sneakers I honestly prefer much more compared to traditional sneakers.

china/vietnam is where most NB product comes from. if they were made in US(or UK) you'd know because of the price lol.

Thanks for that article. I checked the New Balance website for the Made in US/UK section and I was stunned at the prices I saw. I had no clue New Balance made sneakers that are priced over $200.00. Even worse is that the majority of the sneakers were so terribly ugly.

It was a superb discount as result of getting them from shoebuy.com, but I bought a new pair regardless, knowing of this somewhat show of support from New Balance. I guess I just couldn't help myself.

I've worn over the years, New Balance makes the best zero drop sneakers I've worn. I wish I could find another sneaker that's comparable in design and cost, but I can't. I couldn't pass up the purchase given the huge discount I got on the website I mentioned in the prior message.

Ive owned 4 different pairs.

I think with Nike hitting the market, they got kind of squeezed out.

Their minimus shoe is designed for like hippy folks and people who are "alternative". Someone who mightve worn Vibrams. Where as Nike and Reebok are making the more mainstream fake minimal shit

I've had every colorway they make them in at some point. I scour the internet when I want a new pair. They're becoming harder and harder to find, though.

I had my eye on another pair of new Balance 910v3 train running shoes. Got them in the color I wanted for $82 from Shoebuy.

I'm pretty sure they're drop shipped directly from New Balance.

Thanks for the reminder.

They are in favor or trade policies that favor their business - not supporting Trump directly.

"New Balance does not tolerate bigotry or hate in any form,” the company said in a statement. “One of our officials was recently asked to comment on a trade policy that was taken out of context. As a 110-year-old company with five factories in the U.S. and thousands of employees worldwide from all races, genders, culture, and sexual orientations, New Balance is a values-driven organization and culture that believes in humanity, integrity, community and mutual respect for people around the world. We have been and always will be committed to manufacturing in the United States.”

Just a selfish business - not much more.

But they don't seem to support Trump's/white supremacist's American agenda.

Most companies support policies I disagree with - except maybe Apple and Tom's of Maine and Ben and Jerry's.
