"How hard is it to turn 1K into 100K in the stock market? "

cause Hillary did it back before computers

Clinton Joked It’s “Risky” For Her To Speak To A Group Committed To Futures Markets Given Her Past Whitewater Scandal. “Now, it's always a little bit risky for me to come speak to a group that is committed to the futures markets because — there's a few knowing laughs — many years ago, I actually traded in the futures markets. I mean, this was so long ago, it was before computers were invented, I think. And I worked with a group of like-minded friends and associates who traded in pork bellies and cotton and other such things, and I did pretty well. I invested about a thousand dollars and traded up to about a hundred thousand. And then my daughter was born, and I just didn't think I had enough time or mental space to figure out anything having to do with trading other than trading time with my daughter for time with the rest of my life. So I got out, and I thought that would be the end of it.”

Which is what she was doing. I guess the question is did she have inside information to make those potentially high yielding investments not as risky

In response to Reply # 0

She was dealing in commodities and futures (think Trading Places vs. Gordon Gekko), so there's that.

As for how to take $1000 and flip it into $100,000, that's a question of how long she was trading and what was happening while she was holding a commodity.

If you were trading say, corn futures, and bought in at $1000 in 2002, you'd be prudent to expect a modest return over time. BUT, if you were patient and waited for 2008 when the oil prices skyrocketed and demand for ethanol spiked with it, that $1000 coulda turned into a hunnid stacks over the course of a few months.

It's part skill, part timing, part luck. But you can't really joog the futures and commodities markets like you can with stock because you're dealing in hard goods.

I mean, I could tell you now that there's a whole bunch of bacon and pork chop centered restaurants opening nationwide and you better get in on hog futures now, but if the CDC announces that pork causes immediate ass cancer or congreess enacts sharia law, it's not like you'd see that coming.

The reason why insider trading works with stocks is because you can inflate their short term value, buy in and sell in a matter of hours, and cash out before the market knows what happened.

You can't, as a $1000 investor, move the futures market because the commodities still exist which limits their relative fluctuation in price.

Do you invest in the markets?

In response to Reply # 11

The White House insisted today that Mrs. Clinton received no improper financial assistance on the trades from the lawyer, James B. Blair, a close friend who at the time was the top lawyer for Tyson Foods of Springdale, Ark., the nation's biggest poultry company. Mr. Blair has said that he had suggested that she get into the commodities market, and that he used his knowledge of trading to guide her along the way.

During Mr. Clinton's tenure as Governor, Tyson benefited from several state decisions, including favorable environmental rulings, $9 million in state loans, and the placement of company executives on important state boards.

Mr. Blair and the Clintons denied any favoritism or conflict of interest when the trades were first reported earlier this month.

In response to Reply # 18

You know that the SEC (Securities Exchange Commission) wouldn't have allowed her a seat on that board if there was even a whiff of insider trading in her past.

Like, that's the rule. You can't be on the board of a publicly traded company if you've been suspected of insider trading.

I know, I know. I'm giving you facts and all, and you're gonna ignore them, but just in case you decide to have a momentary lapse of sense.

In response to Reply # 14

Nothing about then governor Clinton's treatment of the company is out of the ordinary with state support for major economic drivers. The state of Washington has always been hugely supportive of Boeing; Michigan has backed and kept the auto industry close at all state levels. It's what smart governance does: nurture economic drivers.

She played commodities at the same time that Tyson was growing in conjunction with the rise of the Walmart empire and their close (physically and fiscally) ties to one another. Everybody in that part of the world that saw what Walmart was becoming benefited in some way or another.

Big old shrug.

In response to Reply # 10

Unless you are incredibly active and play huge straddles which yield fractional gains, net, options are all about volume and covers plus knowing the commodity you are active in. And nobody with just a $1K can play futures nor can an individual, especially before etrading, play futures. To get on the floor in Chicago, you have to have big money and backing.

Anyone that brings this sort of shit up as an attempt to throw shade should first explain just how it could possibly be indicative of illegal activity.

So, please, Legsdiamond, explain that to the class. Or are you just parroting other idiots?

We've been through all of this shit before.

These fucking threads are worse than the ones where people rank Mos Def's True Magic > Black on Both Sides.

It's part of the past batch of leaks...

I bet Trump wishes he could say that shit tho... "it was the 90's (snort)"

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

Come up with a new angle, or something. We had a special prosecutor, all of the right wing media, and 8 years of it and nothing got proven.
Same old shit - nothing new. Not a thing new. hey spent 8 years , plus her Senate election and years of being a senator and then her years of being Sec or State retreading this. Just prove something.

As for Trump being a fucking rape-y creep - WE knew that but these are new to most people.

Why? Most people are fucking retards. (Archive this post for when I run for president in 10 years - it'll be new then too.)

Bill and Hillary are possibly the most investigated politicians in the history of the USA.

NOTHING STUCK.

they even impeached Bill but he wasn't removed from office.

NOTHING STUCK.

and so to keep relitigating bullshit claims that have already been exhaustively investigated and litigated just makes these ppl (and folks like legs who STILL think there's something there) look like fools.

it makes me sad for us and only increases my respect for Sec Clinton b/c through all of this she's maintained her commitment to public service and has served faithfully and well. i dunno how she does it. i'd have walked away decades ago and told the USA to go fuck itself. she must be THAT dedicated to service - b/c it's not like she's really benefiting much from all of this drama. if she were half the devil she's suspected she could've gone private a long time ago and made herself a billionaire. but she sticks w/this. i couldn't do it.

fuck you.

It is what it is though. Doesn't really matter anymore. We're not even talking about policy anymore. Just theae scandals. Hope it doesn't backfire on the Dems this election. They are building this faux lead, not motivating people to vote, and missed out on the GOTV efforts they should have made in the primary.

We'll see though

You can't use your tax refund check of $1000, not talking to any OKPs, at a brokerage firm to invest in stocks. You'll get laughed out of the office. Think of investing in the stock market like investing in a sports team. They have a minimum requirement for the upper middleclass/wealthy.
