"Is Game of Thrones worth it?"

Never watched a full ep, I've put the first episode on 3 times and fallen asleep

Is it worth committing to?

I feel like there are 8 seasons or whatever by now, BUT its autumn and bingewatching something new would be good

Feel free to recommend any other show (yes, I've seen Atlanta and I love it)

Because they've got to set up SOOO many pieces the first half of the first season is probably the toughest to get through unless you're into politics.

After major dudes start to get murked it gets much easier to follow because

1)less characters (lol)

2)even if you don't remember the specifics you start to remember which characters are aligned with which groups.

But you gotta get through that first hump

Just never got around to giving it a fair chance

Much like SoWhat said, that medieval thing is not really my cup of tea

most will probably hate it tho...

but my wife kept trying to get me to watch it and I had no desire. I walked in on her screaming at the wedding scene and once I watched how real that shit was I all in.

It may not be that episode but I would suggest watching an episode with a lot of action and if it keeps you awake you make be motivated to see how it was all set up.

edit: it may also be better to watch with someone. I tend to fall asleep when I watch it by myself and its a slow episode.

I would just check out the major episodes then - Red Wedding, Mountain and the Viper, Battle of the Bastards, Blackwater. Basically episode 9 of each season and the season finale

Maybe 5%.
The rest of it is titties, blood and politics. The reason why the books were so critically acclaimed was as opposed to cute hobbits and scary orcs is just basically humans being shitty to each other...the way it is in real life.

Tolkien is Scandinavian myth put through a blender.

GOT is European History put through a blender and yeah there are dragons.

The political maneuvering and subversion of fantasy tropes is brilliant....I'm sorry you can't get past the dragons.

My mom is the same way, but she watched the first season recently and enjoyed it.

and i don't recommend it to many
there are a lot of obstacles on this there is easier and other tv
i'm actually surprised folks got on board and suffered through the previous two seasons
i was here because i knew this past season would be out faster than the books and knew it wa a build up and they would at least solve had the shit he left up in the air in a ham fisted way but i'll take it!!!

but its a lot to sit through if you aren't into the genre at all

bc who can tell all them scruffy wypipo apart
and the crazy names didn't help

but its kinda like if 2-3 seasons of the wire (the city politics, the street battles/maneuvering), walking dead, braveheart, and some other shtt was all happening in one season

and they add enough titties and murder to help u thru it

and I also dislike all medieval era, lord of the rings or robin of Nottingham stories. but GoT is lit

Been hooked ever since. I remember watching it on demand just when the first season ended. Started first episode in the morning and didn't even leave the house because I kept wanting to see what happened next. Since then I've read all the books. That's how good it is to me.

I'd say give the first few a shot, it gets very entertaining.

It didn't come together for me until like midway through. Then it becomes a crazy roller coaster that it hard to look away from.

Stick through it, use the wiki alot when you get confused on characters and houses, and it will end up in your top 10 dramas.

it couldn't hold my attention

When i did, once the first ep ended, i was intrigued. after 3 episodes, i was hooked. i wound up ripping through the first two seasons in a week.

I was never a fan of fantasy. Not a fan of Lord Of The Rings, but this is different. The magic and fantasy elements of the series are secondary. They become increasingly more important, but its FAAAAAR from a series about dragons.

The books are much better than the show though.

were checking your phone and doing other distracting shit?

I just ask because it does actually take some mental investment and concentration to "get it" because it jumps around so much. For example before everyone knew True Detective was going to be the shit, I had the first couple episodes on while I was being distracted and thought it was the most boring shit ever, then I watched it and was like, fuck!

Made me pick up the books

There were several surprises I kind of wish I didn't know before hand though (red wedding, etc).

Probably why I am glad the show has passed the books at this point but damn Martin needs to go ahead and finish this before I turn 50.

I blocked out any other show thrown at me. I missed out on Power, this season, the Get Down, and a host of other shows.

Started in June....and watched on my downtime. I'm not into Sci-Fi...I mean I like Star Wars, and alllll things Lord of the Rings.

....But this isht HERE!!! LOVED it! I finished in mid-Sep. I'm definitely fan!!

To be honest, the dragon ish made me tune in more. That was a Dope aspect. IMO
