simple premise: someone has a long layover in your city, long enough to not want to sit there but not long enough for a "rent a room and crash".
What not-obvious (touristy/well-known) place would you suggest they pass through and why?
Here in LA I would suggest a quick trip south on PCH, down PV drive to White Point Beach in San Pedro. Not a people watching beach, or over-run with too much of the "LA" side of LA (take that to mean whatever you like)

it really would have been nice if we could have gotten answers to the actual spirit of the post (a listing of less than obvious places to visit in various places where we reside)

not the rub&tugs, places like this - https://www.yelp.com/biz/spa-world-centreville or the one of the airline lounges, though I've not been to one that was open 24 hours, I've been to several with private bathrooms and showers.
