"Has any society ultimately achieved 'equality' over hundreds of years?"

Help me out brainiacs. I tend to see the writing being on the wall.

That being:

If America wanted to treat all Americans more or less equally wouldn't it have done it by now? Does it really take close to 400 years to reach such a goal?

Are there any historic examples of civilizations that have accomplished something similar? Perhaps Rome? Just looking for something to go on besides high hopes and propaganda.

the darker shade will always struggle for equality.

not sure about African countries but i think it comes down to who your people are and not skin tone.

Every place you mentioned dealt with European colonization-->capitalism. The heirarchy you reference is the legacy of that.

Of the places you listed, I'd say post-revolution and pre-special period Cuba was the closest of the countries listed to actually achieving "real equality."

To me it helps manage expectations and keep disappointment at bay. Makes things easier to accept. Helps me focus on what can be changed vs what can't. Helps with empathy and understanding the hardships of others. Keeps me searching for absolute truths whatever those are lol

We get fed a lot of lies and bullshit and to me it seems such an outlook helps cut through all of that.

i dunno enough about you. just from the outside you seem to operate focused on so much negative stuff around you and i don't know enough about you to know if that's actually how you live. but that's what i read here. and today when i read that i was like 'damn. he doesn't have to live that way.' so i posted that. i could be totally off - maybe you don't really see as much doom and gloom as you post here. i dunno.

again - you're comfortable w/the way you see the world. cool. i wouldn't be comfortable w/that but that's me.

bloodshed, riots, "conversations", etc. When it really does appear that based on all the history and laws and gross systemic immorality that there is no chance to achieve the goal these efforts are geared towards.

So that pains me a bit because to me it appears (in the grand scheme of things) that too many of us are being deceived into sacrificing much of ourselves for little to nothing.

This leopards spots will not change.

I'm no Malcolm or Martin but I will do my best to have a strong Black family and try to live the best life I can live.

so i dont think anyone is making unnecessary sacrifices. Do what you can afford to do financially, physically, mentally, etc...

The only way we're getting "equality" is if we become powerful enough that the opinion and actions of others no longer has any effect on us.

Privately, at least. We need to turn that energy inward and get this new black renaissance started.

I don't feel like the inevitable "Uncle Tom" bullshit that's thrown every time a black person wonders if we can be doing something more effective with out time than making appeals to "the man," so I keep my mouth shut.

Not gonna front tho, watching black folks running through the streets like roaches during the protests/riots really bugged me. Like, is *that* the best we got?

Horticultural society:

-Hand tools, hoes and digging sticks make it possible for women to work in cultivation of vegetation. For this reason, there was a high degree of equality between men and women.

-Neither sex controls food supply.

-Inheritance could be matrilineal or patrilineal.

-Patriarchy is not yet established. Many horticultural societies are matrilineal.

Post Industrial Society:

-Service based economy brought more women out of the home and into the workforce. As a result, women’s status is on the rise.

-More women receive college education and higher paying jobs.

-Inheritance is bilateral.

-Men have less control over procreation as more women enter field of medicine.

-Dual Earner Marriages—both husband and wife must work outside the home in order to make a living.

were you just talking race with regards to equality or the concept of equality in toto?

if you are talking race then right now is where the rubber meets the road.

groups were largely isolated and now that we are coming together and meshing we are in uncharted territory really, which is why people refer to the United States as the great experiment

So in our case it's equality, but yeah are there nations that have had deep seeded issues that they eventually resolved over centuries?

Someone has to relinquish their power in order to achieve it
And equality goes across the board
it isnt just treating everyone the same on a human level
It also means equally sharing wealth, knowledge, resources, technology.etc

people stay stunting on each other.

There's no equality component in capitalism.

capitalist equality = 'I got more equality than you'.

Even if we started in year 1 with everyone being equal, and we had a completely merit based society, you can never get around people wanting to leave their accumulations to their children and pass on their successes to them.

What it would really take is a society where revolution is built into the system to happen every couple of decades or so.

Why should people who were smart enough to plan ahead be penalized?

Isn't that the story of a lot of African countries post-independence?
