"we got to move these refrigerators, we got to move these color TV's"

just heard this song in passing and wondered if anyone knew the story behind it. I HATED this song but MTV loved it because "I want my mtveeee"

sounds like a song a moving company made and they threw on the mtv thing and it became a hit. wasnt the video video graphics too?

speaking of wtf hits...

You ever listened to the lyrics of Ghostbusters? its like 15 words total.

fucking pop genius.

and I make no bones about it.

I was heavy on that $hit. 'come on feel tha noise' and alladat.

I think I went Mariposa, CA with my boy to visit his white side of the family. I had never been really been on a long road trip, or been too far outside of Long Beach anyway. That was my first experience with dirtbikes, cow pies, pitbulls as a family pet, and Def Leppard's 'Pyromania' album. THAT album opened up my inner white boy.

Part of the reason I fux with TOOL, NIN, Pucifer and alladat other $hit right now.

Mark Knopfler (the guitarist/lead singer for Dire Straits) was at an appliance store to buy something. There was one of the "wall of TVs" at the back of the store, and their was either a music video or a music performance showing on all of them. Knopfler saw a guy who worked at the store watching the TVs, and overheard him continuously complain about what he was saying. Basically, that the video looked and sounded ridiculous, and that singing/performing wasn't real "work." Knopfler wrote down a bunch of what the guy said and incorporated it into "Money For Nothing."

It was a number #1 hit and a big part of why the album went nine times platinum.

It comes across as a nice one hit wonder joint. Most people know that, Walk Of Life, and maaaaaybe Sultans of Swing, though I've actually heard multiple people attribute that to Steely Dan, and that's about it.

I doubt most people realize what a towering monster Brothers In Arms was at the time.

As alluded to below:

"See the little faggot with the earring and the make up?
Yeah buddy that's his own hair
That little faggot got his own jet airplane
That little faggot he's a millionaire."

That caused a stir even back in 1984. Even as a nine-year old, it jumped out at me.
