No tour guides , no trinket sellers, no camel rides, tour buses, touristy tourists. But you definitely have to study up on your own to put in context as they are generally unmarked{or guarded}. On the one hand its a great experience,on the other the level of neglect is crushing.I saw a donkey tied to a statue of a Pharaoh.I wanted to take a picture but was too depressed. People carving their names into structures thousands of years old makes me mad. Also, we did it first.The Egyptians have powerful propaganda and completely appropriated Nubian culture.
