Saw this shit is really good.

Made me understand the plight of homosexuals a lot more. Especially in Sharone's case.

The orchestral score is chopped and screwed(intentionally so. And also so you don't notice it either).

Moonlight should definitely be up for best movie, best cinematography, maybe best score?

Moonlight far surpassed all of the hype it recieved, while boan was underwhelming.

edit - I do agree about the acting, it would be hard to say who was the star here. I disagree about Harris, my odd man out would be Andre Holland. Not that he didn't act well, but he felt too old for the role.

holland... i kinda just felt he went from the flashy kid, even in the 1st act, to a little too subdued


i liked how they added (or removed) enough to each act to not exactly set it in any particular time. obviously its moving chronologically but any of the scenes could have been set in present time, 8, or 18 years ago

He's a great actor, great performance, had a great year (with Luke Cage, House of Cards, and Hidden Figures coming up), and a vet guy who's been working consistently for nearly 20 years.

Yeah, I think I said this elsewhere. Never thought it stood much of a chance. Sundance films rarely do rack up nominations (Fruitvale Station was blanked, and it was much better than BOAN, imo)-- a couple have, but those are major exceptions. The awards blogosphere always generates a ton of buzz for Sundance films every year that go nowhere that *don't* have rape controversies.

Washington and Davis will get noms, Ali and Harris very well may (especially if the film plays well with the Academy), Octavia could land one for Hidden Figures, Gugu could land one for Miss Sloane, Ruth Negga could land one for Loving... if they somehow end up with another #OscarSoWhite scenario this year, I'd be stunned. I'd bet on five of the above seven getting noms.

just to keep the #OscarsSoWhite talk down. But the Academy is good for handing nominations to popular films just to keep people tuned in.

i dont care about best actor. Lots of strong performances but this should be up for Best Film best Director.

On a surface level it explores black masculinity but it also speaks to the shit all of us go through to "fit in" to society and our perceived roles, and how we sometimes have to hide our inner selves or re-invent ourselves. That line towards the end where Kev just talks about being/finding himself....thats life...

It was funny to see/hear some people in the theater who didnt expect the plotline at all lol..
