"DNC shit show underway"

Just as the RNC was

First, the DWS disaster. She resigned, but still gonna hold the gavel. WTF?

http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/289059-wasserman-schultz-booed-off-stage-in-philadelphia

Second, Bernie bots already booing Hillary. It's gonna be a long week if they keep it up.

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/sanders-supporters-threaten-to-steal-show-from-clinton

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/livewire/california-delegates-boo-over-uniting-clinton

Third, the protests.

http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/289078-sanders-supporters-chant-lock-her-up-at-philadelphia

Bitter bernie bots can't let it go, good job helping Trump!

she's the nominee

we got it

doesn't mean we're happy about it

she chose Kaine

+ the leak

= message loud and clear

MFers happy to dig deeper holes to bury their heads in

there are people at the convention that will voice their disdain for her and her candidacy

this is what the HRC base wanted

they spin and deflect to defend her at every turn

deal with it.

they literally need her to have a hole in the middle of her living room floor with a body in it like silence of the lambs to call her anything but a child of god

SMH

this is YOUR candidate for the POTUS

golf clap

"Being an honorary chair does not mean that Debbie Wasserman Schultz is 'in charge of' Hillary Clinton’s campaign. It doesn’t mean anything. That is, unless you think President Obama’s 2012 campaign was run by actress Eva Longoria; or former Republican Senator Lincoln Chafee; or high school guidance counselor Loretta Harper—all of whom were among 24 people who served as honorary co-chairs of Obama’s 2012 campaign."

that's what this is about. there were opportunities to embrace these people since the war on terror started, since the economy crashed....and the dnc has consistently pushed them away because they were afraid of how the corporate wing and the dead blue dogs would interpret that.

it wouldn't take much to treat them with more respect. they're showing up. they're going to be voting. the dems have rebuffed them at every opportunity (and the president shares some blame there) and continue to chase after a demographic that doesn't want to be courted and okps keep telling me is obsolete.

But she didn't point a gun at the primary voters and force them to vote for Hillary
As I recall there were multiple debates, rallies, advertising, and media for months
The primary voters chose Hillary. Why can't Bernie's supporters admit defeat and move on?
Acting like DWS went in the ballot boxes and tossed out Bernie's votes or something
I don't recall calls for DWS head on a stick when Bernie was winning primaries
Now if Hillary was smart she'll tell DWS to dress warm, cuz she's gonna be working in Alaska. But we'll see

why the continued shots at Bern and his supporters?

again, we called BS in real time

ya'll replied with tin foil hats

now you have evidence of what we told you to begin with

and you still can't come up for air

c'mon fam

this only validates Bern's entire platform

yeah, nothing DWS/DNC did to influence voters like calling the election before the California primary, purging the voting registar in BK

SHEEEEIIITTT

we called out the f'n debate schedules to begin with

man

if ya'll don't gtfohwtbs

hold HRC/DWS/DNC accountable and keep Bern and his supporters out of your mouth

it has nothing to do with us.

could realistically be POTUS
do you understand the gravity of what that means?
this is not the time to play fucking socialist dream games
In every election there are winners and losers: you know, democracy
Hillary won her primaries. She wasn't my first choice, but I will fully support and vote for her. I'm not booing, I'm not crying about DNC shenanigans, about DWS (I'm from Florida. I'm very familiar with her), and about fucking socialist pipe dreams.

At this point if you're on some Bernie shit just go ahead and vote for Trump

end-of-second-term slick willy is just culpable for the financial crisis as dubya and re-regulation... namely clinton co-signing the repeal of glass steagall.

quizzical that the repub platform calls for re-enacting it, which is basically biting the wall street big bank hand that feeds them.

but don't be this stupid.

of course Berners have a legit gripe, and it's not about crying over Bernie NOT winning because I don't think anyone could prove that DWC/DNC's actions were so harmful they made Bernie lose. Hillary does have real support. We're not talking about that.

What we ARE talking about is when your party is supposed to be the upstanding party, but you have DWS/DNC/HRC working behind the scenes to harm the candidate you support, and thus disenfranchise your vote, THEN have the nerve to ask for you to fall in line behind Hillary who you already have distaste for?

man, FOH. this is the chickens coming home to roost. if HIllary loses it's going to be her fault by either silently cosigning (or participating in, depending how dope your tinfoil hat is) the DNC shitting on the people she's supposed to be winning over.

He knew the DNC, Obama, the whole Dem party was in the tank for HRC
The whole country knew
he's not some country bumpkin in DC for the first time, he knew what time it was
and chose to run with them anyway
to paraphrase Ice Cube
he knew the game and still ended up on his back
his entire campaign: DNC is rigged, fire DWS, they don't want me to win, etc etc
so what other outcome did he expect?

a real independent, like he was in his whole senatorial career
would have ran as an independent
not signed on to follow the rules and regulations of the DNC

he's trying to play the game either to get ahead himself, like all politicians do (Bernie ain't perfect and anyone who thought he was is blind), OR he's just trying to fall in line because he feels the Trump threat.

but that's BERNIE. that doesn't mean everyone is gonna do what he does or what he wants them to do, especially when most of those folks already had a major distaste for Hillary.

i'd be pissed too, and i'd be side-eyeing the shit outta anyone telling me to vote for Hillary.

im tired to the point of saying, ckuf it
i'm going to help as much as i can with the DP campaign - because i do agree with the DP platform and are reviled by the thought of a trump presidency
but this country is being very unpredictable so... who the fuck knows what will happen anyway?
lets just throw all caution to the wind.

it sounds like his supporters want the nomination to be handed over to him
i highly doubt thats going to happen
it doesnt sound like they want HRC to win this election, and even if that guarantees trump wins
which is why they are #neverhillary. once thats a position someone has taken, there is literally nothing you can do to shift their mind/thinking
so instead of all this, perhaps that's the solution
i personally would like to watch the DP convention as a reassurance against what i saw last week.

the entire primary has felt like a big effort to make sure Bern supporters were marginalized and their votes didn't mean shit, pretty much from start to finish -

2 glaring examples -

purging voter registrations in strategic burroughs in NY

opening 1/3 of the polling places in RI where Bernie was polling strong, but the Governor is 'one of theirs' in relation to Hillary and the DNC

And now the message is shut up and fucking vote for Hillary or you support trump.

That some people are surprised this message and approach doesn't really resonate and rally support for HRC is kind of a testament to how tone def the Clinton campaign has been in general.

The voting purge (which is routine maintenance every election)

Purges people who no longer live in the district or who were inactive the last 2 election cycles

Also felons

Yes it should've been done way before the election but that speaks to how underfunded it is

It's not indicative of cheating at all

But yea

These emails r no different than what goes on behind the scenes of every election on both sides

U think there weren't emails circulating about Obama and his ties to reverend wright, his citizenship, drug use, electability, etc back in 08?

Yal need to get a grip

The more serious issue this revealed is Trump bring in the pockets of Russia and them tinkering with our elections trying to cause chaos

That's some scary shyt

Not no emails of people talking greasy

if bernie's people wanted hillary done, the general election would already be over.

now, the protestors have a right to vote for someone else, but most of bernie's supporters want her to win the presidency, even if we still believe the priorities of the party need to change.

that's the big problem i have with all this. the dnc (and hillary's people here) is choosing to continue to push the narrative that bernie's supporters are not party of this party and this coalition.

we're integral to it.

i think there is a general assumption that bernie's supporters would support the candidate
*thats to be expected*
the DP has adopted some of his platform (that shows that they do consider his constituency important- to the point of having 5 of his people -including cornell who is endorsing Stein - on the writing committee)
im not really sure where it is that you see this narrative - except it looks like if things dont go their way, then this is the assumption they make -we are not respected. thats childish
what i see is the narrative that clinton is not to be trusted, is hawkish, has not done enough, is not worthy
frankly, im of the opinion you can only try so much, at some point you let go and focus on those you can influence

the concessions that bernie got, he would never have gotten if he didn't go through the process. he doesn't appear to be full of sour grapes about it, but he and his supporters did have to fight for it every step of the way. they've earned a seat at the table, and it's not childish to keep pushing when it took so much effort to get there in the first place. respect is important here, because the dnc does need to earn trust back (and not just ours, you know what the polls look like).

i also don't want to call people that are protesting for what they believe in childish, even if i don't agree with them.

at the same time, they don't represent the vast majority of people who would vote for bernie and will be voting for hillary.

that's how things work. they don't just fall on your lap

what are they pushing for, exactly?
they wanted debbie out. now she is
what next?
this is what id like to know. what are they pushing for?

>i also don't want to call people that are protesting for what
>they believe in childish, even if i don't agree with them.

you dont have to. i think that type of behaviour is childish- i dont know anything about these protesters- but i do have an opinion about this kind of behaviour.
we are to censor words now?

>at the same time, they don't represent the vast majority of
>people who would vote for bernie and will be voting for
>hillary.

i hope so. but they just be enough of a constituency to win the candidacy for trump
not only that.... i can imagine what impact this is having on people *outside* of the DNC who might have been wavering
i.e. those (repugs and independents) who would've preferred anything but a vote trump
and are now like, definitely *not* - the DP is just as bad - because *we* are telling them that the DP is just as bad
instead of this being a focus on the platform and issues
its not. we are still being told, not enough of an accomodation

i think thats the reason i've given up on this constituency - not that i dont think dialogue is important. but this is not about wanting dialogue
this is about proving pre-conceived notions

Because that's all that happened here. Nobody told anybody not to be a member of the party. He ran in the primary. He got farther than most people expected (yay, socialism!). But a large majority of the people who voted in the primary decided he was not the better candidate. What is the party supposed to do about that? As Obama said in 2012, elections have consequences.

you certainly haven't posted like someone who's won an election and is ready to move on.

it has been heavily implied and sometimes stated throughout the process that bernie and his supporters are not really part of the democratic party, even though they are choosing to be.

there has never been an attempt by bernie or the vast majority of his supporters to abandon the party.

personally, i'm not even that mad at the dnc for being centrist or corporatist or whatever. they are who they are. i'm used to dealing with people with different points of view daily.

i'm mad because the dnc playbook and starting rosters are on a losing streak, yet you guys come in to these posts every single time making excuses for them like you're the rational ones.

we're still here. whether hillary wins or loses, she'll have millions of our votes.

we're on the same page about getting through the next election. we're trying to help. accept the help.

Sanders gets booed as he urges supporters to vote for Clinton

Bernie Sanders provoked outrage from his supporters on Monday after he declared that the time has come for them to elect presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton and vice-presidential nominee Tim Kaine.

"Immediately, right now, we have got to defeat Donald Trump. And we have got to elect Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine," Sanders said at a Philadelphia rally, drawing boos and subsequent chants of "We want Bernie."

Sanders raised his right hand as if to hush the crowd, before remarking, "Brothers and sisters ... brothers and sisters, this is, this is the real world that we live in."

"Trump is a bully and a demagogue. Trump, Trump has made bigotry and hatred the cornerstone of his campaign," Sanders said. "Throughout this campaign, he has insulted Mexicans and Latinos, he has insulted Muslims, he has insulted women and African-Americans."

As the crowd grew more vocal, Sanders paused, raising his right hand again.

"Trump does not respect the Constitution of the United States or civil liberties. That is not just my opinion. That is what many conservative Republicans believe. Trump is a danger for the future of our country and must be defeated," Sanders declared, as some applauded. "And I intend to do everything that I can to see that he is defeated."

First, Bernie caucused with the Dems but never claimed to be one. It shouldn't be surprising that they would want their loyal democratic frontrunner to win over Sanders.

Second, the Democratic Party isn't bound by any sense of fairness or equality. They're a private organization and they can twist, bend and manipulate their rules as they see fit. Being a party chairman isn't some sunshine & roses job, it's one of the dirtiest jobs in the political game.

That being said, this whole scenario looks absolutely terrible for the party. Its going to be a drag during DNC week when they should be trying to get a string post-convention bounce.

I agree 100% that this is going to sting the Dems. There's no question about that.

But this stuff is basic party politics. This is minor on the scale of political misdeeds. This kind of thing happens in both parties at the local, state & federal level. Anyone whose ever dug deep into the guts of party politics isn't surprised at this.

The Dems were just unfortunate (stupid?) enough to get caught.

Bernie LOST.

Hillary is the nominee no matter how many temper tantrums you throw.

The choices are Hillary and Trump.

Pick one.

lol, talking about emotions but calling people cowards. you're emotional.

you can do 4 things: vote for trump, vote for hillary, vote for someone else, not vote.

not voting is not casting a vote for anyone by proxy. it's literally NOT VOTING.

get over yourselves.

I worked for Bernie's campaign in AZ, he lost the nomination. Not participating when the gap between Hillary and Trump is so stark is absolute cowardice, rationalizing and simplifying that to a literal definition is such basic thinking.

The country is at a critical mass when it comes to energy policy, foreign policy, equality rights, police reform, education policy, reinforcing healthcare policy...and you're ok with those decisions potentially being made by Trump? Cmon man.

These are all conversation-blocker speeches to keep the topic off HRC and her bs

As he said, this is bigger than Hillary or Bernie, this is about generations.

This election holds too much gravity to fuck around and be fragmented. BO has done so much in terms of building momentum and pulling national policy where we need to go...now it's time to push forward on healthcare, climate change, living wages, education.

It's July.

The DNC isn't even over yet. At least let the two conventions conclude before you go in to full on doom and gloom mode.

Is there a chance Trump can win. Absolutely. But I want to see him head to head in the debates and see how the actual campaign goes from here before I get too worked up.

The problem like some were saying above is that you have probably one of the most hated and divisive candidates ever in Hillary going against Trump who against just about anyone else from the left would be getting his ass beat.

The majority of Democrats are so disgusted with the idea of a Trump presidency that they are pulling out all the stops, despite Hillary and the DNC doing everything they can to fuck it up. Hopefully it is enough but lets give this more time to play out before we start waving any white flags.

the Bernie or bust people. They don't want to pick Trump or Clinton--they just want to sit around being mad. (which means they are in essence picking Trump cuz it's not like they were allowed inside the RNC)

Sidenote, I blame this on the millennial, everyone gets a trophy generation--nobody knows how to lose anymore. Take the L and move on. (ok, I'm kinda joking...but kinda not)

I think most of them won't vote in Nov--either out of anger or apathy.

But there's nothing wrong with feeling that way, but to constantly hijack the convention is just irritating--like Sarah S. said--they're being ridiculous.

Nobody has run a negative ad against Bernie in his entire life. And independent can mean a lot of different things.

Donald Trump "won independents" in his primary as well, and I think we can agree he was not their strongest candidate.

The country is polarized. That's all those numbers show. When partisans know their enemy, they hate them.

Before the 2012 election, when Barack Obama was running for office and Hillary wasn't, his approval was in the 40s and hers was in the upper sixties.

If Bernie Sanders was running for anything, and the GOP had just spent the last week and the last year insinuating about his past (instead of talking him up, as they have been doing), he would not look popular right now, and he'd definitely not look like a unifier.

That this is a shit show too, with a lot of empty verbal diarrhea from center-left politicos, famous folk, and insert demo group talking head here

I dont know why this board keeps focusing on the millenials of Bernie? there was hella angry cantankerous older wypipo there too. Yelling and being obnoxious.

I'm just confused as to why you are so upset about it. Michelle and Bernie made them shut the fuck up for the most part and the other aspects were hilarisad.

This country deserves this circus

Until it reckons with it's violence and amnesia, this is what we have

Folk who are trying to blame a possible Trump presidency on Bernie Bros not getting in line, or radical leftist not voting, or not looking at the big picture

Need this truth: if Trump wins, he will win because millions of white supremacist voted for him and nothing else.

Fuck all that other noise. We either ready to deal with that reality or cry that some privileged middle class wypipo were loud and mad, and that made it hard for Sarah Silverman and Corey Booker to speak

i have focussed on behaviour that i find impolitic
shouting at the speaker does not rewrite policy- neither is it effective in this particular arena.
so what is the objective again?
yes, i find it obnoxious
i dont really give a shit if its black/white/yellow folk doing that - it would not change

>I'm just confused as to why you are so upset about it.

see above

>This country deserves this circus

i really don't believe this. i believe this country deserves better than what this year has shown
and the democratic party to me, is the party that is the alternative to the bigotry central to the GOP
...to me means that it is the party of ideas - and nuances - and *not* the party of absolutes.

>Until it reckons with it's violence and amnesia, this is what
>we have

so shouting at speakers helps in this?

i think have been clear on my views on what a trump presidency means-
i don't blame berniebros- i do think they will make it easier for him to win, but not that they are the majority of trump supporters.
but...i dont think they are helping themselves or the DP in this convention
they are merely acting like spoilers- we didn't get what we wanted so we will disrupt the show
thats not progressiveness to me - so i am commenting on it
and reacting to it- just as we all are
i dont see why this is called being upset.

the attitude expressed by those in the emails was warranted out of the frustration of dealing with Bernie. Hillary Clinton conceded to Obama a lot sooner...and in a much much closer race than this.

Bernie isn't even a registered Democrat....him not coming to the table sooner is why you had some turmoil at the convention today.

He lost by lot of votes.... under the rules of the party....he lost.... His people are crying about the DNC being salty towards him, when he's not even a Democrat, and he had no chance of winning...

Now tell me about how millennials are broke because they'd rather own a cellphone than open an apple cart on the highway.

Not to mention, Americans in general have had shitty saving practices for several decades now, but you just keep on bashing millennials.

I wish people would be more willing to at least ask why Barack Obama considers it one of the greatest achievements of his administration.

But the anti TPP stuff has calcified. There's not much that can be done about it at this point.

Pat of me hopes Barack brings it up in his speech. But I'm sure that would do more harm than good, especially with Trump out there exploiting that anger.

pitch of the RNC
and that kind of worries me - we are supposed to be better than the absolutism of the GOP
not everything is black and white - international agreements cover a lot of gray as well, and are all about compromise and concessions
if we also become the kind of people who are, all or nothing- unless we get everything we want, then we want nothing, then we are in trouble
this to me, is what this signifies.
we cant become absolutists, too!

NAFTA and PPP fucked the global south for a decade and a half. Literally caused the violence and migration patterns of that time period. TPP is seems to be a mirror/extension of that

Stop assuming ppl in that audience don't know that history.

That has nothing to do with how the RNC was spinning it about Obama giving other countries power over us, and it being a "bad deal"

>NAFTA and PPP fucked the global south for a decade and a
>half. Literally caused the violence and migration patterns of
>that time period. TPP is seems to be a mirror/extension of
>that

its not enough to say previous trade deals did this.... and so future trade deals must result in that

and besides, there is no consensus that NAFTA fucked up the global south -
the mexican economy has certainly benefitted from that agreement - which is why this deficit with the U.S
and this is the key argument against NAFTA- is the loss of manufacturing jobs in the U.S
so this is about local protectionisms - that's exactly the republican argument for make america great again, in my opinion- and about anti-globalisation

the united states has also benefitted from the agreement - but this is often overshadowed
(i dont know what PPP is, btw)

how is TPP a mirror?
unless we are saying that all trade agreements are bad? free trade is bad?
i don't agree with that.

seriously, i see why FoxNews does it, the last thing they want is to see young people involved so they try and discourage people by saying they dont vote and arent to be trusted.

I think okp Hilldawgers joke them because they are jealous of their youth and their passion. We had that for Obama, but this time around its "the lesser of 2 evils"

I can chuckle at the tears but these are the kind of voters you want on your side.

Just like my generation (including me personally) fucked up by supporting Ralph Nader, and Hillary's generation (including Hillary herself) fucked up by supporting George McGovern. We all thought our time was different. It wasn't.

Millennials are wonderful people, every single one of them. But it's infuriating to see our movement shoot itself in the foot, in basically the same way, over and over again.

when you think about Florida in that whole election 'debacle' that exist outside of Ralph Nader. I don't know if it I agree with you in terms of feeling some guilt on a personal level in terms of voting for Nader, but do you. Who am I to argue?

As you can probably tell, I voted for Nader myself, mainly because I felt Gore at the time was a terrible candidate, and I still feel that way knowing that Bush was able to govern for two terms. Then again, I feel some level of comfort with my Gore disgust because I reside in staunchly liberal NYC, so my Nader vote didn't cost Gore NY state's electoral votes.

In Sanders they chose to support a candidate smart enough to fall in line behind Clinton in recognition of pragmatism against the greater evil. If what Rob says is true, it looks like Millennials will follow his lead and support Clinton. If MSNBC chose some crybabies for ratings, we ought to pause before using them to make generalisations.

Their time is different. See Trump. But maybe we should wait until they actually fuck up on this point before calling them some fuck ups because they're emotional about how their future looks in this election.

Just IMO though.

i'm not a fan of the people whining at the convention, but the quickest way to get them to move forward is to keep embracing bernie and supporters like warren and silverman. or shaun king, who people keep posting on their social medias today.

and people need to remember that these angry people are just the loudest of a wave of people that were recruited into the party because the sanders campaign. the fact that susan sarandon even hopped into our big tent at all is amaaaaaaaaaaaazing considering the past twenty years. who cares if she walked out? there are plenty of people that will be staying.

the true test is going to be whether the rank and file dems that keep telling bernie supporters that politics is more than just this one election mean it. both sides need to be putting in the work after the convention, but even more so after the election.

we want the party to move forward too.

YES. The Presidency is just one piece of the puzzle, and for the office to be most effective with a mandate they need support from other branches of government.

Progress is a grinding lifestyle, not a crash diet.

Just IMO though.

lbj knew exactly what was going to happen when he went all in on civil rights, and instead of rising to the challenge, we keep retreating from it, despite the party having its proudest and most resonant moments when it embraces the left.

i get the sense sometimes that quite a few democrats today, if they could go back in time, would have asked the party of the mid-60s to ease up.

maybe aiming for a shrinking middle that keeps sliding to the right and just out of their grasp isn't an electorally sound strategy.

if more people in the party had been doing the work of taking strong stands against income inequality/racism/misogyny/other forms of discrimination/environmental devastation, there wouldn't be so many out there that are ideologically vulnerable to tea party populism or trumpism. but because the party is always leading from behind, too many people still see those as fringe issues.

So measured and nuanced, especially when he brought up the point of doing a better job of understanding those people who have a hard time with change, particularly a lot of change in a short period of time...and rather than simply ostracizing them, understanding what support and encouragement they need in order to be able to digest that change.

to the good... Michelle Obama's speech was amazing....Corey Booker...Elizabeth Warren....Al Franken...and Bernie were all solid also..

on the one hand it's great to see the party passionate about the direction of the party.... It really...is..and the Democrats have a really deep bench of people to communicate their message..

as far as the upheaval though..

the emails.... I think people are losing the context of the emails in that the DNC was justifiably salty towards Bernie. Hillary Clinton conceded a lot sooner, and in a much closer race than this one....

and Bernie isn't even a Democrat.... of course they would be suspect about the impact of him not coming to the table sooner.

DWS going...that's fine...I mean if it were up to me...Howard Dean would still be the head of the DNC...lol. His 50 state strategy got the Democrats back in the game in a major way... I haven't been 100% about the of the DNC since him...

but all the whoopin and hollering the Bernie folks did inside today...that should have been handled months ago... Bernie would haved still gotten all the concessions in the plank he ended up getting because he had obviously brought so many supporters in... him holding out on coming to the table is why you have all this upheaval.... He may have Caucused with the Democrats..but he's not a registered Democrat, and that Independent style of his delayed him being a team player sooner..... His supporters should have been in their feelings months ago...

Tommorow will be pretty hectic too with the actual nomination....

by Wednesday you'll see more unity start to come together....

President Obama will be big for that..

221. "90% of Sanders supporters plan to vote for Clinton in November (swipe)"
In response to Reply # 0

so much for the ship jumping/divide and conquer narrative.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/07/25/the-democratic-convention-is-chaotic-the-democratic-base-isnt/

Among the weird scenes from the first day of the Democratic convention in Philadelphia is this one. A truck sponsored by the conspiracy-theory site Infowars toting a billboard reading "Hillary for Prison 2016" rolled up to some pro-Bernie Sanders protesters. Infowars doesn't fit neatly onto the political spectrum, but it's by no means liberal. The Sanders supporters, though, liked what they saw.

This was shortly after the Florida delegation to the convention enthusiastically booed Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the outgoing head of the Democratic National Committee — and a member of the House representing the state.

The picture that develops is of a party split by support for and opposition to Hillary Clinton. But it serves as a good demonstration of the importance of keeping anecdotal evidence in context.

Pew Research has been polling on the 2016 campaign for months, allowing it to track attitudes among voters over time. Nearly half of the Democratic electorate, 44 percent, changed their preference over the course of the three surveys Pew conducted. About 3 in 10 supported Clinton, wire-to-wire; about 20 percent Sanders.

Pew asked those consistent Sanders supporters whom they support in the general election. Ninety percent said they back Hillary Clinton.

That's lower than the percentage of consistent Clinton supporters who back Clinton, which isn't a surprise. It's higher than the percentage of those who'd switched who now back Clinton, though only barely.

Last week, as the Republican convention was going on, Pew offered similar research about the Republicans. Of the 44 percent of the party that never supported Donald Trump, 79 percent were planning on backing him in the general election — lower than the percentage of Sanders supporters backing Clinton, but still nearly 8 in 10.

So why so much outrage in Philadelphia? Delegates to party conventions are not normal members of political parties. Part of the objection to Hillary Clinton stems from a sense that she doesn't adhere to principles important to more-liberal Democrats.

When Gallup asked people about the importance of compromise vs. adhering to key principles in 2010, Democrats were much more likely to say that compromise was important than were Republicans. Forty percent of Democrats at that point said compromise was important; half as many Republicans did. This was shortly after the fight over Obamacare and at the height of the Tea Party, though. In June, Pew asked a similar question, and members of each party were about as likely to think that winning on principle was more important than finding middle ground.

But notice how that changes depending on how fervent a person's opposition to the other party is. Those who are neutral to the other party are less likely to say that their own party should get most or all of its demands in a negotiation. And those who attend a political convention, it seems safe to assume, are toward the edges of partisanship.

We're stretching a bit, admittedly. "Coldness" is a specific metric used by Pew that doesn't translate easily to ideology in other polling. There's clearly some correlation to partisanship; whether or not that extends to orthodoxy between members of the same party isn't clear. We're assuming that it does.

Pew did find that more-liberal Democrats — like those who backed Sanders in the primaries — felt more coldly to Republicans than more moderate ones. This makes sense: Those Democrats would then be more inclined against compromise between the parties. While we saw a clear shift toward more-liberal voters in the Democratic primaries this year, the Democratic Party still has a greater population of moderates than the Republican Party, according to Gallup.

We noted in March that this move to the left by Democrats varies by race. Whites who identify themselves as strong Democrats are much more likely to identify as liberal than they were 20 years ago. Blacks who identify as strong Democrats haven't seen the same shift. Black Democrats were also much more likely to support Hillary Clinton in the primaries.

There are plenty of Bernie Sanders supporters who are frustrated at Hillary Clinton, and some chunk of those voters will back Donald Trump in November. Most Democrats — even those who consistently supported Bernie Sanders in the primary — plan to back Hillary Clinton. Those Democrats are more likely to be moderate and, Pew's data suggests, more willing to accept compromise.

That, it seems clear, isn't the sort of person who would applaud a "Hillary Clinton for Prison" billboard.

Supporters Aggravated Bernie Sanders Didn’t Use DNC Speech To Get Voters To Act Against Their Own Self-Interest

http://www.theonion.com/article/supporters-aggravated-bernie-sanders-didnt-use-dnc-53325

PHILADELPHIA—In response to the Vermont senator calling upon all Democrats to come together to assure the party’s victory in the presidential election this November, thousands of Bernie Sanders supporters were reportedly left deeply aggravated Monday after he didn’t use his Democratic National Convention speech to encourage voters to act against their own self-interest. “I just don’t understand why he didn’t go up there, be honest about everything that’s wrong with this election, and tell us all to take an action that would inflict deep and lasting harm on ourselves by reversing the policies and values we’ve been pushing so hard to expand,” said Kyle Jorgenson, echoing the sentiment of numerous angry supporters who hoped, especially after the recent leak of emails revealing the Democratic National Committee’s bias against Sanders, that the candidate would urge them to approach this year’s election in a way that would result in the immediate erosion of so much of what they believe in and hold dear. “He really should have taken a stand and declared that if the Democrats aren’t willing to nominate a true progressive, then we should all engage in behavior that ultimately serves to benefit a candidate diametrically opposed to those ideals. I can’t believe he would drop the ball on encouraging us to completely disregard the kind of world we’ll be forced to live in for the next four to eight years and instead act out in shortsighted petulance.” Irritated supporters then called upon those who still believed in progressivism to take the necessary measures to set back society for decades to come.

They're saying the plan now is for Bernie Sanders to be the one to announce that Hillary's crossed the delegate threshold and officially enter her name for the nomination. This is also how they did it with Hillary and Obama in 2008.

The point was made that he would bring in more independents

Which I think 42% voters identify as

+ the dem base = easy W

But you still have some disputing that logic

Base, HRC went middle, as many supporters championed

In an effort to convert Reps...?

I don't see the logic in her platform rejecting so many Bernie tenants

and that is compounded by then expecting them to be quiet and fall in line

When they weren't Dems to begin with, a lasting critique of Bern himself

Feels like you want it both ways

It's your candidates job to unite the party, not her defeated opponent's

I'm waiting for the HRC contingency to hold her accountable for that faiLure.

Either she's tuning out part of the Dem base

or she's intentionally discarding independents

I don't understand either of those strategies

---------------------------------------------------------------

If you can't understand it without an explanation

you can't understand it with an explanation

Al Franken (Current senator from Minnesota)

Sarah Silverman (Current TV and movie star with a box office total of over 1/2 billion.)

Cory Booker (Current senator from New Jersey)

First Lady Michelle Obama (With what people are calling an "instantly classic" speech.)

Elizabeth Warren (Current senator from Massachusetts.)

Kirsten Gillibrand (Current senator from New York)

Demi Lovato (Current music super star.)

Keith Ellison (Current congressman from Minnesota.)

Raul Grijalva (Current Congressman from Arizona.)

Joe Kennedy (Current congressman from Massachusetts.)

Jeff Merkley (Current senator from Oregon.)

Linda Sanchez (Current senator from California.)

Senator Bernie Sanders (Current senator from Vermont.) Currently holds the second most delegates at the convention. And who again endorsed Hillary last night.

RNC had Duck Dynasty, Former Texas Gov, Scott Baio, Benghazi, an ex-underwear model, parents of someone killed by an "illegal immigrant", David A Clark, Trump's wife, and current congressmen or senators from Arkansas, Montana, Wisconsin, and Iowa .

SO RNC wins because of some yelling during speeches!!!!!

No, Wreck it Ralph was the main factor and she starred in it.
Add things she co-starred in (even if they stunk) like "A million Ways To Die In the West" and "School of Rock" and it's more like $600 million.

and I generally like him and agree with much of what he says..

but he's not going to share his email list with the Clinton campaign or the DNC....he is not going to register as a Democrat, finishing his term as an Independent....

now he's entitled to do all of those things....but people need to see the context of those DNC emails..

nobody was hating on Bernie just to hate on Bernie...nor did they have any malicious bias against him.... Bernie was not..and is not on "the team" ...yet trying to get to lead "The Team"....but didn't want to help the team, nor play by the same rules that others vying for that same spot have played by...... all while LOSING ....getting fewer votes than his opponent...

I love the direction of the platform that Bernie pushed for....he's moved the party to the left at a time where it needed to move to the left....

but Bernie came in this as an Independent....left as an Independent.... and no other Democrats can benefit contacting all those new young voters he brought into the process.....

smh

quickest way to annoy a lot of people these days is to show up in an inbox unasked. let them sign up on their own.

as for the independent thing, it's kind of ridiculous. he's done more than enough, you saw him last night. vermont doesn't have party registration and he's been caucusing the with democrats. the votes are what matter.

the strong two-party system is bad for this country, and despite its gravitational pull, bernie's doing his best to live out a coalition-based model. maybe that's a good idea in a country where more people consider themselves an independent than part of either party.

maybe it's a good idea in an election where 40% of the highly engaged primary voters of BOTH major parties chose to nominate candidates that had a history outside of their respective parties. one of them even ended up the nominee. and the libertarians nominated a pair of traditional republicans!

i understand why the dnc is the way it is, but maybe it needs to get with the times.

A) private server

B) DNC collusion

C) Bernie not turning over his list

People forget Bernie had to sue right when he began his campaign for the list of Democratic participants to start his campaign. He went and earned everything he got? He's not a real Democrat? Well neither is 45% of your party. Maybe if they hadn't purged the lists and collected votes they'd have a database. If you don't want us the don't need us. #DemExit

seeing that shit from dunham and ferrera right now. the meme keeps spreading among people who already have strong party affiliations, and sure some republicans talked themselves into voting for her because of it already, but it really is not going to play any more than it's played already.

you can't talk out of one side of your mouth about not being the party of fear, and then run a campaign based on fear (fear of fear?)

and if there's ever been a democratic nominee that might lose a race to the bottom (unfair as it might be to her), it's hillary. http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/hillary-clinton-and-donald-trump-are-now-equally-unpopular/.

people like michelle showed them the way last night. do that.

It was looking touch and go on Monday morning. But by now it looks like there will be no disputing that this was a VERY successful convention.

She's got a bright future...would hate to see her not be able to run for higher office with this DNC..

hopefully it's all good
