"Tell me about Marthas Vineyard"

I read a little article on the history of black folk on the island.

I'm interested in making it part of our yearly summer vacations.

Never been, but always seemed a little too "Harumph!" for my tastes, knowing the kind of people that go.

I just don't like THOSE kinda blacks that have been mentioned in this post

I guarantee you there will be about half the niggas there thinking Alstair, Phillipe and Eric Garner had it coming to them....they should have just complied.

Or they'll openly talk down about ppl on welfare.
Most times it be subtle, but sometimes shit be so egregious I have to tune them out.

But also the island is a Lil more "lively" when the blacks come up.

I'm saying, there are always a handful there but THAT wknd it's South Beach on Memorial Day levels.

They are world's apart
Galveston is nothing
Galveston is garbage
Some Houstonians go there for vacation but I've lived all over so it's pretty much a wasteland.
Best beaches near Houston are down past Corpus
Port Aransas
San Padre

I like Kemah better than Galveston

15. "$500 per night for the house"
In response to Reply # 12

$300 food
$40 ferry for you and wife
$100 ferry if you want to bring your car over (I think it's a out that)

Travel costs from VA to Mass

Ehhh you looking at $2500 for 3 days of you ask me.

You could bring your own hot dogs and save some dough
Don't bring a car as depending where you stay it's not needed
Bargain with a house rental

I mean, I've been there and only spent the ferry money
But I know someone with a house that was fulla food and drank so I'm just mooching.

Somebody say Newport.
It's cool.
I used to ride my motorcycle there to the jazz fest when I lived in New Haven
But Newport don't hit like the Vineyard
I'm sorry, it just don't

Maybe the hamptons.
But not no Newport.
Surprised he ain't say Block Island
LoL.

The Vineyard is not the place to go trying to pinch pennies.

I mean it can be done
But your level of experience will be greatly diminished

I'm not saying you have to rent the Obama estate. But let loose a little.

I don't even know how much a room would be there
Let me check vrbo then airbnb

>You ever go to the Hamptons?

You don't plan a trip to THE VINEYARD or THE HAMPTONS trying to save at every corner.
These are vacation destinations designed for WEALTHY individuals
These places aren't set up for "the cost conscious"
Yes, it can be done (as you read in here) but 9 times out of 11 the person(s) will "know somebody" already doing it and they are just riding coattails.
breakfast at the black dog will set you back $50

And when is $500 "stunting" on the vineyard?
I forgot this is OKP
and I'm not stunting
but $500 a night for a house on THE VINEYARD is going to be some pretty old pre-1985 build non-modern whatever type house
again, this island is designed for MILLIONAIRES like multi-multi-millionaires

the entire reason why it has that "allure" is for the fact it IS "exclusive" and not overly trampled by the masses like if you went to Jones Beach or Rehoboth.

>I'm at MV for 3 or 4 days next summer

That can be a challenge as I think most properties are weekly rentals.

>who has the best breakfast, lunch, dinner, etc..

We eat at the house mainly but I like The Black Dog
I don't eat shellfish so I don't know about lobster rolls.
Just stay near your ferry dock and you'll quickly find what you like
Also, MV is very Provencal
You typically do everything in your corner of the island
And honestly I don't know names of places (except for the black dog ) I just know how to get

Same for Anguilla, Houston, San Diego.
No names but I can give you landmarks directions

>best beaches

That water cold as hell bruh!
But we stay close to Edgartown
I go to avoid city life
Do nothing
Eat ice cream at Vineyard scoops
Eat steaks and drink beer at the house
Meet other blacks and go to their house
Whites too!

>when is it too crowded

4th July
Entire month of August
Last year I was in Boston on biz so I brought the family and we went over for a day
I think mid July is perfect time

>is there a black film festival
>art galleries

Yes
Google it
It's pretty major

I like how you want an "art scene" on a wealthy island with beautiful beaches but want to avoid bougie blacks.

This may be a cool thing for you to expose your kid (s) too.
But I'm serious when I say 90 percent of the niggas up there on some Skip Gates / Lawrence Otis Graham steez.
Them light bright damn near white folk.

Jazz Fest weekend shoots prices up, but Providence is about 30 miles away and about a $40 Uber ride each way. There's also a ferry that's only $10 each way. Hotel prices there should be cool.

Seclusion and an illusion of exclusivity

None of the mansions in MV have anything on Newport's gilded ass--the Hamptons might. The beaches are all comparable (MV only wins because they have more of them). Better food and activity choices in Newport, plus - no island prices for everything, or having to drive 40 miles to find a grocery store.

at least go to check the view and grab a drink on the lawn in the adirondack chairs, if you're not having an entire meal - https://www.instagram.com/p/BF6cPaJhRjY/?taken-by=castlehillinn

But I fuck with the Newport Shipyard's little diner, Belles http://tinyurl.com/ztpbawm, for breakfast. You sit feet from billionaire's multimillion dollar tax haven yachts, http://tinyurl.com/hdsn5hc & http://tinyurl.com/homfzg3 plus their crews are always out there, and mostly cool--diverse and international--so cool you could probably get a tour.

For lunch, I'd buy live lobster directly off of a fishing boat in the harbor, http://tinyurl.com/zx3aqec & http://tinyurl.com/hzgt9ec but this spot is cool http://newportlobstershack.com/

At night there are plenty of bars, but they have happy hour oyster specials at this great place http://www.benjaminsrawbar.com/

But there are dozens more options.

Hamptons beaches are great and actually much nicer than other beaches in the north east in my opinion.

Coopers Beach specifically was great.

Long straight beaches are way more enjoyable. All those cove beaches in MV and Newport are decent, but definitely don't match. I feel like the red tides thrive in those conditions too.

It was fun because my folks would know a gang of old heads there and act the fool. Great crowd of black people. Last time I went Questlove was spinning.

We use to do a house with another family. I think we went about five summers. It was a great multigenerational fun with everyone kicking it from grandma to kids hanging out at the arcade.

We stopped going because it just became harder to justify the cost now that the kids are bit older and my family has a second home in VA with a pool.

I think we will eventually start going back when the kids are older.

It's worth doing at least once.

Houses are better and it's a lot easier to get there.
The Jazz fest every summer is the shit.
Check this year's lineup, www.newportjazzfest.org
I'll at least be there for the Sunday lineup.

There are new ballers who are investment bankers and what not and bought houses there in the last 10 - 20 years and then there are the old school bougie negroes whose families bought houses there 70 years ago and come from more middle class backgrounds like educators and dentists.

Half a mill income per year and $5M in assets is not a bad starting point

You can cop a jount out there for $600k or so
But that's a toy
A $600k toy

They'd never invite me to their parties tho
I'm too groid.
