I saw it in a packed theater and there were some groans and teeth sucking on a few parts although there was huge applause in other parts.

I would wouldn't consider it garbage at all.

I learned some things and I was like "yeah right" on some things. The SOLUTIONS part in the last fifteen minutes is where most people applauded.

Definitely worth the time and money.

It's not the best film but certainly not garbage. It may not be that informative for people who are enlightened on these topics. But to those who need a little enlightenment this can be helpful.

8. "great entertainment."

initially inspiring.

scholarship is lacking and problematic.

it definitely can inspire someone who is passive about "the cause" and get them pointing in the right direction.

but it is severely lacking in what it presents as sources and documentation, and how they arrive to conclusions.

it could've been done much better, but parts were done well, and I am not going to knock people for trying.

this post blew UP.

Nothing wrong with being woke. The first time I heard it was 'Master Teacher' (Sa-Ra, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Bilal and Erykah Badu depending on which version you hear)

the chorus goes:

"What if there were no NIGGAS...only MASTER TEACHERS?"

(( I stay WOKE))

there's nothing wrong with 'waking up' from whatever slumber. My personal thing is: find your life path and stay on it. Live a purpose-filled existence and be happy. contribute something positive to your people, your culture, the human race.

But if you gon watch HC and come at me with all these so-called facts that you only pulled from THAT source, and you aint read no Koran , Torah or ANYTHING ELSE....you gotta get the fuck outta here.

who made that nigga THE source of all blackness.

thass it.

As a Black history documentary, funded by
the Black dollar and doesn't cater or bend
to white supremacist fragility, its success
is nothing short of amazing. I applaud Tariq
and all the sisters and brothers involved
in making that the number 1 documentary in
the world.

That said, lol @ a so-called pro-Black and
conscious person making this post.

Unpossible (c)

I understand everybody isn't gonna like
everything, but for that to be such an
inspiration to people globally, and you
not have one positive word to say about
and claim to be pro-Black is worth calling
bullshit.

The series isn't without its flaws, but the
pros far outweigh the cons, and it's definitely
an accomplishment worth celebrating.

I couldn't really get into the series myself because I had already begun reading about a lot of this stuff prior to viewing Hidden Colors. But I'd imagine that this would be eye-opening to someone really young who has no clue about Black/African history.

That being said....the whole 'have you heard of this? we did that' approach got tired really quick for me. I feel that the documentary should've been structured a little different.

We tend to assume that everyone is reading
as much as we are, or has the time to do so
and then get on this "more conscious than thou"
high-horse. People don't have to be young or
unusually uninformed to learn something from
the series. It's packed with information...
especially numbers 2 and 4.

The only reason reading up on Black History became a personal pastime for me was because my Mom forced to read a bunch of pamphlets on great Blacks when I was 7.

She caught me rocking one of those Confederate Ranger hats at a museum and flipped out. TBH....I did look like a husky non-woke Pharrell with that hat. I had to read about Black History and watch an Oprah special on racism......at age 7.

After that, I just kept reading about black people. A couple professors put me on to Frantz Fanon and some other writers.

Without that, I would be like a lot of other people....just not aware at all. I applaud Tariq Nasheed and the rest for putting the series out. Of course that's only the start.

I feel that. I do hate how folks go harder
at Black folks trying to do something positive
than they go at the school curriculum brainwashing
our children with false history daily tho.
I mean if we wanna talk about bending (and omitting)
history, they run that game. Like Saul Williams said,
before a pendulum rests, it has to swing in the
opposite direction first, so I'm actually not too
mad if Hidden Colors did put some sauce on it.

Word. That's what matters most imo. They
found a way to reach folks I never thought
would gain any level of consciousness.
Honestly I'm impressed with the whole thing.

He also made a subpar horror film. Does that

Yall really think bringing that shit up somehow

You use "pro-black" as an insult.
Everything you're saying in here is the
direct result of that.

He's paid for innocently slain Black men's
funerals, but he doesn't publicize that.
He helps people in the community start
businesses, but of course you don't know
about any of this, because you just want to
think of him as some sleazebag who writes
so-called "pimp books" in your words.
Foh dude.

I've seen portions of one his previous Hidden Color documentaries. There was so many instances of half-truths, full lies, and specious statements made that it is shameful.

Nasheed is a huckster, homophobic, and misogynist. He calls black women "bedwenches," yet wants to claim he cares so much about black people. If you take out women and LGBTQA black people, what you have left is heterosexual, cis black men, which is the only group he cares for.

All he did was trade one hustle for another. Why people give him money for anything he says or produces is beyond me.

>Nasheed is a huckster, homophobic, and misogynist.

Let's be more honest. He calls guys "moist" if
he doesn't consider them manly men. He's made it
clear many times that he loves his gay brothers
and sisters. The "misogynist" tag comes from the
fact that he often questions the origins of feminism
and its affect and allegiance to Black women in
particular.

>He calls black women "bedwenches,"

Correction: He refers to women who take on a white
supremacist ideology as a result of sleeping with
white men, as bedwenches.

Overall, he's grown up a lot over the years.
Something our friend rjcc should be able to understand,
considering his antics on the boards over the years.

They're going on about lies and half-truths, but
not telling the straight-forward truth.
Either he's a misogynist he's not.
I know that he's admired and studied the pimp
game. He doesn't hide that, but I'd love it
if you could show me where he's ever said he
used to actually be a pimp.
His concern is teaching men how to be leaders...
particular young Black men.

I didn't even have to do the digging myself.
You're awesome.

>example 1:

Go to 2:40 of that one. It explains he's not
referring to ALL Black women but ones who operate
against Black empowerment (but I have seen a few
women on here throw ALL Black men under the bus).
Think of it this way "coon"=men who are anti-Black
empowerment, "bedwench"=women against Black empowerment

>example 2:

That very beginning of that video finds him
checking someone for equating education with
whiteness. Furthermore, listen to it from 4:00.
She's talking about ending racism through
interracial dating. She outta her mind.
Again, that ain't all Black women, that's a
sickness.

>example 3:

Proving the point from the very beginning again.
Go to 3:28 and AGAIN, he says exactly what he
means with the 'bedwench' tag. A Black woman
who throws Black people under the buss as a
result of being in bed with white men.

so really it's a pro-black statement.

by just shitting on *some* black people for some dumb reason he made up

you see?

that's pro-black the tariq nasheed way.

it works, as long as your primary need is to feel good about yourself for not being one of the black people he's talking about.

If Hidden Colors is Black Consciousness 101...what do you consider 200 and 300? And I'm talking about all media: books, film, music, etc.

Let's get a running list going. I'm pretty sure there's a ton out there that I haven't heard of yet.

Some books...

"African Origins Of The Major Western Religions" -Yosef Ben Jochannan

"Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome" - Joy Degruy Leary

"Black Labor, White Wealth" - Claud Anderson

"Blueprint For Black Power" - Amos Wilson

"When We Ruled" - Robin Walker... it's
a textbook of sorts about Africa prior
to slavery. Wildly informative read.
It's also a newer book.

"They Came Before Columbus" - Ivan Van Sertima

"The Lost Treasure of King Juba" - Frank Joseph

His other book I mentioned is 4 times the size

under the Obama administration before we ever
even knew there would be a Black president,
for instance. READ.THESE.BOOKS.

If you mean "impetuous", that's ironic as hell.

>always comes across as a meeting of angry minds w/ no real
>direction

It's history, and social observations with
solutions given at the end... but it has
no direction? That's a very weird critique
considering most history docs and books just
give you history w/o solutions for the future.

>then there's always a perfect mix of accuracy and hogwash when
>it comes to the assertions in the films

"Always"? Like in every one of them?
Can you elaborate on that from 1 - 4?

>we come from a legacy of black scholars that HAD to be on
>point - they anticipated having their efforts triple-checked.
>there's no need to fabricate shit. -- unless you're

You got any examples of the fabricated history
you're citing? Like, say... 5 examples.

You realize this post is about Hidden Colors, right?
Funny how yall can't really attack it w/o bringing
up unrelated ventures.
Yall swore people were trippin on here when they
brought up rjcc's past because it was 12 years ago.
Nasheed wrote Art of Mackin 17 years ago, so are we
overlooking the past or not?

Not everyone who posts here hate Tariq. Honestly, the person who has accurately discussed TN in this thread is Boogie Stimuli. I had my differences with this person in the past, but I have to side with this person regarding Tariq Nasheed and Hidden Colors.

In all, I learned that everyone will have naysayers, foes and enemigos. Can' win em all nor please everyone. Even if this doc is a so called woke starter kit, then it is a good one because I don't think here is anything out that is as good, if not better than the Hidden Colors series.

One more thing..Anyone interested in Black American and African history is more than welcome to conduct their own research along with fact checking whatever they feel is innacurate about HC. Just don't say HC is garbage because it is far from being garbage. It may not be for everyone, but it is for those who choose to seek knowledge as well as promote cultural pride and healthy self esteem amongst Black people. For that, I do applaud Tariq for his efforts on this film along with other deeds he has done within the Black community.

It's good to know some folks on here
don't take disagreements personally.

Both friends and foes say things we
agree or disagree with, and imo, it
doesn't help to be afraid to express either.

Great to know some still side with
truth even if their interactions with
the speaker haven't been the most pleasant.

That's some honorable shit on your behalf.
*thumbs up*

You good as well. Btw, I hope you never change. In the future, if I say something that you feel is out of pocket, then I hope you will speak on it and call me out. Otherwise, how could I grow as a person? I charged whatever was said in the past to the game. As Black people, we say things and do things that may cause strife, but I know that from that we can take our fades and shake hands at the end.

When I read your posts in this thread, I knew you paid attention to TN and understood his POV. That is not to say that you agree or agreed with everything he has said, but you have effectively shared that the lies said about him in this thread was false along with you effectively challenging some people to back up their assertions.

In all, I think that TN has evolved as a Black man. Yeah, he has a past and yeah, he may have said some some things that may have rubbed some people the wrong way, but we both know that his intention to promote Black empowerment is genuine and sincere. Because of that, I feel the best thing to do is extend the olive branch to you and let by gones be by gones. Hell, we may go at it again, but if that happens, then we will just take that e-fade and shake hands again. Lol

Thanks for the positive response. May peace be upon you and those you love!!

*tips hat again*

Look at how illogical and dishonest they
all are lol. They hope their vitriolic
name-calling will sway people away from
listening to dude, because he's exposing
why their arguments always lead to Black
male bashing. They can't win a debate
with him even on their own shows (see:
Jesse Lee Peterson and Wendy Wright.. she
actually came on HIS show to apologize after
he appeared on her show tho). Anybody who
hears dude out has to admit he knows his shit
and is making sense.
And anytime somebody just leads with bashing him,
they haven't seen the films.

when ppl call TN the dude that wrote the "pimp book" or call him the ex pimp I can't take them serious. Straight up lies. Nothing wrong with being critcal

TN isn't without his flaws but I support this series. I'll Take the information and do my own research from there, as I would do with anything.

from 15 years ago. He was pointing out
a coincidence in reading that article
and the virus breaking out in the same
area a short time after.
He wasn't stating that concretely as the
reason for the ebola outbreak.
That particular segment of the film
was was about germ warfare (starting with
smallpox blankets), why they do it (because
they want the land, and violent takeovers
can destroy the land, such as with Japan
and the atoic bomb), the fact that certain
conspiracies have been uncovered (such as
the Tuskegee Experiments), and not being
naive enough to think they suddenly stopped
or that diseases just happen to pop and kill
hundreds of people in the same places where
America wants to go for resources. Well the
segment was about more, but that's the
foundation.

The most important thing about
that part was that he actually
encouraged those in the street
to go legit.
Again, gotta look at the entire quote
and context of it. It was under the
segment about the larger society's
deception. He said "people don't like
to give the streets their credit"...
"In the south, whites love to tell you
how NASCAR was started because of
bootlegging... some of my Italian
brothers and sisters love to tell you
the about how their cousin or uncle
or grand-uncle used to drive for
Al Capone... they love to tell you,
because they've crossed that hump.
Well how did the hump get crossed?
The hump got crossed because one or
two generations were willing to involve
themselves with crime, so I actually
salute the brothers who involved
themselves in the streets who made
it out... who were able to transition
into legitimate business... to buy
shops, buy real estate. I salute you
and I encourage more brothers who
are in the streets TO DO THAT."

I'm not surprised that one was
mentioned tho. I knew when I heard it
that it'd be taken outta context and
that whole part about other cultures
standing on a foundation of illegal
activity omitted, as well as him
encouraging cats to get off the street
and use the money to go legit like
others have done.

Our people are probably smarter than you
give them credit for. I think the
success of the documentary already
disproves the whole "niggas are dumb

We'll let the white folks at BET

exactly. killer mike shoulda known better than to say that dumb ass, halfway-glorifyin' shit.

let me break it all the way down: drugs don't help black folk cross NO hump. and even if selling drugs does improve your financial standing -- and even if you're able to transition -- then crossing the hump comes at the cost of TEARING APART OTHER BLACK FAMILIES.

the same thing that we've been doing for years before drugs were pumped into our communities. acquire skills and use our MINDS to empower ourselves. a black man engaging in ANY criminal activity is playing a FAR more dangerous game than any white man doing the same. that shit is the okey-doke, and it should be avoided AT ALL COSTS.

in context it makes perfect sense.

He isn't praising drug dealers he is praising those who stopped selling drugs to open legal businesses. I haven't watched it yet but when you made your quote the first thing I thought of was the Rooney Family who bought the Steelers with money from gambling. No one is like "ohh shit, it's dirty money" everyone tells it in folklore fashion like it's some cool shit. The only time people clutch their pearls is when it's a black person who pivots from the streets to Wall St.

...

Way back I had a friend who was grinding and I begged him to open a record store (yeah, it was that long ago) and his reply was "how would I explain where I got the money?"

my reply: how will you explain where you got the money if you don't?

****************
TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

So outline this.
Someone is currently involved in crime.
You suggest they stop.
What do they do next?

TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

don't know how they aren't seeing the salute part as problematic

i get it's the "im proud you overcame your lowlifery" but that's not worthy of a salute...silent admiration feels wrong as well...bc the consequences are serious

but by all means...sell that far fetched ass white protestant ass ideal to trap boys...

the irony is killing me
