I'm trying to figure out why amidst all this anti immigration stuff going on...why none of the candidates over the past 20 years have really stepped up to address the disparity between which groups seems to have an easier time obtaining the necessary credentials while others can't. THAT'S the real story....

Can't expect any of those politicians to be logical about the situation.
It doesn't matter how well you explain it, they get angry anyway. Like the white folks that are far angrier at being *called* a racist than actual racism. They'll tell stories about how great-grandpa immigrated here from some poor area in Europe with $0.03 and pulled themselves up by their bootstraps, then tell you how angry they are about 'illegals' attempting to do the same thing.
I just hope this talented young lady has a strong support system around her.

I work in public health, and man, it's so difficult to find effective culturally-appropriate resources (human and otherwise) to help minimize the health disparities.
And imagine other areas/disciplines with similar issues.

**************** TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*
