This is what happens when you achieve success to such an extent that you barely have anything else to talk about.
Hov's catalog is deep and his unreleased vault should be longer than 2pac's at this point. A Jay verse is a luxury at this point in time.
Where does Hov go from here? He's literally done everything you can do in hip-hop.
His catalog is unparalleled, IMHO. His accolades are untouchable. His family is set. Everyone he came up with ate well with him. He's rich as fuck and past the point of having the hunger of his younger days.
I mean, it's not his fault because he can't escape his wealth and success so he has nothing else to rap about, but you can literally know what's coming in any single Jigga verse after 2010. People are sprung off ONE clever line (the damn Daniel line) that literally came at the end of 20 bars of "mafioso/rich guy talk." but hey, it's 2016. the bar for excellence is just a couple inches off the ground.

if i didn't i wouldn't like either one of them as rappers. at this point, rapping about drugs is their ugly ass jump shot...i don't expect them to switch up the mechanics at this point in their careers...but i expect them not to miss. this song is all net. all the way up was a brick.
There were a few stretches where he was doing well and others where it was just painful. He's in love with "letting that bitch breathe." Pusha was on his deen though.

but hearing Jay Z rap about what he slung in the 80's feels like when Al Bundy bragged about those 5 Polk High touchdowns on Married With Children. Not saying Jay Z is a loser, but it's tiring to hear about those raps from him since he's so far removed from that lifestyle.

because I don't mind that subject matter from others. For instance, two rappers I've been big on as of late are Westside Gunn and Conway the Machine; their rhymes are littered with d-boy references. With Jay Z though it gets a big grating because it's glaringly obvious he doesn't live that life anymore and hasn't for quite sometime now. Among other things, he's the head of a streaming service that's removing the track from blogs for christ sakes.
