"Can I get away with not repaying a student loan?"
This January I was mailed correspondence about a loan I got in 2002. I know it has been close to, if not, 10 years since the last notice so I'd forgotten about it. I know some loans are sold to other companies- this one is Navient. I'm wondering why so much time passed before a company contacted me? Do companies find and buy old loans with the hope that someone like me will just pay up?

**************** TBH the fact that you're even a mod here fits squarely within Jag's narrative of OK-sanctioned aggression, bullying, and toxicity. *shrug*

to just paying the minimum every month forever? wouldn't you remain in good standing so long as you're making the payments on time? and your children wouldn't inherit all the accumulated debt that's built up, would they?
I feel like I'm wrong about this, but I'd appreciate if someone could explain why
