"Captain America: Civil War-- The Spoiler Discussion Post"

I won't mention any in the original post here, just to give people who clicked for some unbeknownst reason a chance to dive out unscathed.

But man. So much to talk about. Black Panther. Spidey. The airport battle. The final battle. Where the movie chooses to end.

Who's seen it?

First, Black Panther got the full Marvel Studios treatment. This film is basically a prequel for Black Panther and vaults the character to the A-list just like Iron Man did for that character that was never anywhere as popular or well known as Spider-Man/Batman. Now, Iron Man is easily more popular Superman and the same thing is about to happen for Black Panther, the motherfucking king of Wakanda.... wow

But seeing all these relatively obscure characters depicted is a treat. I geek out just seeing the Vision in live action.. Rudd as Ant-Man is just plain fun. Falcon had hot lines throughout the movie. Downy Jr is a national treasure. Spider was dope

It's a damn near perfect superhero film, seriously.

Spidey and Black Panther were incredible. Best incarnation of Spidey in a movie to date. I loved that BP got an actual arc in this film, and dude was kicking ass from start to finish.

Ant man was the biggest treat though...no pun intended.

12. "thoughts/questions about Black Panther"
In response to Reply # 0

- was T'Challa Black Panther before his father died? everything seems to point that. even out of the suit he seemed to have that cat-like fighting style. i wonder if because of his fathers age he passed on the mantle of Black Panther to his son the prince? love to see how/if they delve deeper into that in the BP movie.

- i wonder what the significance of the ring was. does it just signify that he's the king now? or was it just a family heirloom type thing?

- ole girl who was trying to flex on Black Widow was no doubt one of the Dora Milaje who are BP's female bodyguards. they ain't no joke in the comics so i really can't wait to see more of them.

- i loved T'Challa's whole demeanor. when Clint tried to introduce himself and he was like, "i don't care". he didn't care about the accords, he was just about avenging his father.

- i also loved how they showed his stealth and abilities to track people.

I'm sure they all go through combat training for the eventuality of being on the throne, but if I remember correctly, the title of Black Panther is for the current king in power.

That read to me as just being hit on that bench that he had to rise to being king unexpectedly.

also in the comics he gets his power from an herb that's only available to the current King/BP. it seems he kinda already had the power to a degree. or will they say that the suit enhances his power as well as provides armor? i'm trying to imagine T'Chaka as being BP as an old man and i'm not seeing it. however if they had shown his pops with some fighting skills i would have TOTALLY geeked out. i look forward to some flashbacks of T'Chaka as BP in the solo film.

>That read to me as just being hit on that bench that he had to

it was definitely an emotional moment. like he didn't even have time to properly mourn his father. he had to take the mantle immediately.

I've been complaining about the trailer about Ant Man only being small. Then he went big. And then they showed the physics of it, how going that big would slow your speed.

When Bucky was telling Steve and Sam about there being other winter soldiers, you saw them each getting an IV from the blue packs. So Howard Stark was riding around with some 1991 version Super Soldier Serum in the trunk.

You see the packs, you think they're going to go stop the other super soldiers, and that was the main focus of seeing the accident. But come to the base, everybody's truced up ready to fight the other soldiers, and it's something totally different

So, it wasn't about what was in the car Bucky stole; it was about who was in the car that Bucky off'd

The bait and switch there was beautiful and its awesome how they hinted at and avoided the cliche. It was dudes just fighting for friends and fam, out of anger, betrayal and friendship...that shit couldda happened in a bar when one dude found out another dude fucked someone's girl, lol.

They have to give it all to you because their films rest on big moments. There is nothing else to them. If they don't show them to you, you won't go unless you're just dying to see the movies before then.

In response to Reply # 44

Cap and Bucky fighting Iron Man. Didn't seem like a spoiler when watching the trailer, but that fight happens in the movie AFTER they reconciled and we're all working together to stop Zemo. So that whole time before the reveal of what happened to Stark's parents I knew some twist was coming to make them fight again.

but part of me wishes he were an actual bird that Sam has that mental link with.

As much as I loved BP in this movie, I still say Chewie was the guy for the part. I didn't buy Boseman as T'Challa as much as I should have when he was out of the costume.

but ended up up getting Mordo. I thinknhe could get the regality of T'Challa across better than Boseman did. That's the only part that was missing for me because he was awesome. I think his martial arts background sealed the deal for them.

I know we haven't seen much of Chiwetel's Baron Mordo, but I think that Boseman is better in the action sequences. I don't know if it really will matter too much either way though. Both will be fine in their roles.

In the comic Cap delivers the line about the being the tree to Spidey to help him bear the weight of the decision to take sides.

Peggy firming up Cap's beliefs was a great way to bring those lines into the movie.

Just IMO though.

Black Panther is my DUDE, man.
The only character who handled Bucky hand-to-hand
in the movie... TWICE.
Even Cap got beat down by Bucky.
That's the way it's supposed to be. BP knocked Cap
out in the BP animated film and handled all the Avengers
simultaneously in the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes,
so I was gonna be lightweight miffed if he didn't
handle cats in the movie. They delivered for the most part.
BP let them know... I'm coming for ya boy, and yall
can only prolong the inevitable lol.
I loved Boseman in the role too... great job.

I was worried they were going to throw Cap under the bus for BP, or vice versa. But they did a good job of keeping things in line.

nobody else could, and like I said, that's

You think Cap was trying to kill Tony?
He was trying to stop him tho, and that's
what he did. My main point is that
nobody is supposed to be able to handle
BP in hand-to-hand combat... not even
all of them at once. He's always been
the guy who shows up to toy with them
until he decides they're good enough to
be on his side.

which is why I think they did good "for the most part",
because I know it's a Captain America movie and all,
so they can't let BP come in and crush everything,
but he really is supposed to make them all look like
fools. He's always been THAT good, even in other
people's stories... they've downgraded or upgraded
alotta people for the movies tho (my least favorite
downgrade was Drax The Destroyer).
Only scene that was 100% some bullshit
is when he was fighting Hawkeye and didn't utterly
destroy him. Hawkeye has a lil hand-to-hand skill,
but dude ain't even good enough to graze BP.

Maybe the words activate his Winter Soldier programming just by him being in the presence of them while they are spoken. If it was just him literally hearing the words then at the end of the film instead of putting him in cryogenic sleep indefinitely they could have just surgically got rid of his hearing. Yeah he'd be deaf, but if that's what it takes to disarm the programming which made him so dangerous then so be it.

reboot the whole thing with a proper XMen team (i.e. adult, founding member Bobby Drake instead of teenage Bobby), give us a Mutant Massacre, Onslaught, and... maybe The Twelve or something and at the same time fold everything into the larger MCU and I'll be happy.

I think the last two X men movies were pretty good...And the new one looks dope as well...(I think the one character Marvel Studios could freak though is Wolverine....)....Other than that those X Men re-boots have been pretty cool.....

The only two things that needs to happen r besides Wolverine actually being portrayed as a blood thirsty, complicated midget is the following:

1) Find a way to strike a deal with the X-Men folks so we can get the Marvel Studios universe on the same screen with the X-Men universe...I need to see the Avengers get at the X-Men...I need to see them battle and team up.....And I need to see Storm with the Black Panther...

2) PLEASE....TO THE COMIC BOOK GODS....Give the Fantastic 4 the justice they deserve....And give Doctor Doom the fucking respect and justice he deserves...He's the flagship bad guy for Marvel. Marvel Studios could work magic with him. No more of that Power Ranger bullshit...

But they weren't in the same position as Sony. They've been doing okay for themselves on that front. Of course, we all want it from a fan standpoint.

They have bigger fish to fry with Hulk solo movie rights and/or Namor over at Universal.

Now that the MCU has gone with "enhanced" instead of "mutant," they don't really need X-Men, and their plate is full enough without that entire world at their disposal. I do think they'd make a push for F4 though, if given the chance.

U r right...But does Marvel Studios have the rights to a Hulk solo movie or does Sony have the rights?

I feel u...But it just seems plain weird not having X Men and the Avengers in the same world....

Maybe this new X Men movie, which so far has been getting mixed reviews from critics, will struggle to be an across the board blockbuster or at the very least be viewed as a critical disappointment....That might force Fox's hand....But we all know that won't happen...

As for F4...I don't see any struggle with getting their rights back...Not after those consecutive bombs....Marvel Studios would work WONDERS with that franchise...

I read a review that said he has that Christopher Reeve quality, where his handsome sincerity just automatically wins you over. And I remember when the casting was announced, people were sort of stumped-- like "what, the smartass guy from every movie is playing the paragon of earnestness?"

The casting for the Marvel movies has been beyond perfect. RDJ. Hemsworth. Evans. Now we've got Boseman and Holland. Every time the nerd in me wants to protest a new casting announcement (I did with Holland yet again), Marvel shows me how wrong I am to doubt. At this point, they could announce that the mom from What's Eating Gilbert Grape is playing Carol Danvers, and I'd reluctantly be like, "Well, they know what they're doing."

I thought that was gonna be their mistake and it was easily the greatest casting choice since Downey.

but yeah, marvel been killing the game w/ the casting. RDJ as stark(s) is the pinnacle, but across the board it's been great.

i mean, hiddleston's Loki? they are getting good stuff to work with in terms of script and direction, but the actors are killing it damn near every time.

that said, i feel some kinda way about MILF aunt may. that was kinda jarring.

but their casting choices and the execution by the actors has been money.

peace & blessings,

x.

The reason I loved The First Avenger so much is the way Cap was written and how Evans portrayed him. Extremely earnest, not corny Go America fanboy. Almost on par with RDJ, he became the character we all hoped we would see on screen, and absolutely nailed it. Throw Ruffalo in that mix too, as he portrayed a better Banner than Bana or Norton (man, knowing what we now now, how great a move was it to drop Norton from the role?). Marvel seems to have a knack for how to portray their characters when they don't have a suit or mask on, which I firmly believe is the key to making these movies work, which DC unfortunately hasn't quite figured out. You can put anybody in a mask and have them fight, but if we can't connect with the character once the suit comes off, you lost.
