"Poll question: "call me when you get home""

we've all said this to someone, right?

its to make sure the person got home safely, right?

right.

i find myself saying it disingenuously and im not sure what to do about it.

on one hand, it's a good thing to say to someone (a woman of course) 'hey, i want to make sure you're safe and sound - give me a call when you reach your destination'

but on the other hand, if they dont call 'which is highly likely' -

... what the fuck am i gonna do?

drive and investigate?

no.

call the police?

no?

worry myself to death?

no

ima take my ass to sleep.

why aint i just say 'good night?', as they drove off?

who knows.

what's your plan when you don't get that call back?

Poll result (3 votes)

The person you said it to is supposed to "think" you would "go all out" IF you didn't get the call.

Some people really WANT certain benefits, you know?

*see yesterdays GD

Nigga texting you ten minutes after you left his crib asking if you home yet.

It's only 9pm and shit, he thinking you bout to go on your REAL date. On some "she better not be at the movies"

Timing shit, like the Jungle Book is under 2 hours, so if she hit me back after that time I know she went to see that shit with Ray-Ray.

but on late nights i've definitely fallen asleep only to wake up to that "i made it home safe, have a goodnight" text...so clearly i wasn't trying to help if i went and passed out before i even got that confirmation lol.

i think it's a nice gesture though. i don't only do it to girls either. if one of my boys or one of my brothers has a long drive/walk home after a late night out i've occasionally done the same.

a guy, who i've known and lightweight have dealt with for a few years, was walking my girlfriend and i to our cars.

she gets to her car, turns to me and says, 'text me when you get home.'

cool. will do.

once we got to my car he opened the door and said, 'text me when you get home.'

in all the time we've been dealing with one another, he has NEVER asked me to do that.

he did it because she said it first.

a nicety

i wanted so badly to say something smart about it but i bit my tongue and instead text him when i got home.

he didn't reply back.

she did.

lol.

but it is a REAL struggle. he'd probably say that i don't tend to keep enough to myself but i really do try.

in this particular situation, why cause conflict when you can just say 'ok i will' and keep it moving?

home meaning actually inside your house. sometimes i forget, or my friends forget and we usually send the "did you make it yet?" text and if they don't answer, then we call. Depending on the person I might just text in the morning.

Half of the people who say this probably aren't expecting you to actually call or text when you get home.

It's like saying "how's it going" when you actually just mean "hello". You don't actually need to hear how it's going.

one of my tallest wishes is for every person to mean what they say.

and of course, say what they mean.

If it's any consolation, someone asking you to text when you get home shows that they really do care. They're expressing love or concern.

But they'll probably be asleep when you send that text.

it also reminded me that i have a friend who does this (texts when she's home) without me even asking her to.

i think that's cool of her.

but if she aint send me the text, i don't think id worry.

...

but what's her motivation?

can you glean that?

is she saying, 'i just want one last word with you?'

...

i know, this may be too far in the weeds. feel free to tap out.
