If someone is alive and currently wasting away in obscurity or a social pariah, we give less weight to earlier periods of greatness. Once you're dead all the periods of your life are weighed against each other and the most relevant portions define you.

Many people have become tabloid fixtures and easy targets for late night monologues, but only Michael made Thriller.

But we are always willing to look the other way when its a beloved celebrity....Hell, death skyrockets the earning power of most celebrities....Look at Jimi Hendrix and Marilyn Monroe....Their estates saw their monetary worth and popularity EXPLODE to an entirely different level....Hell, Amy Winehouse has now taken on a more mythic status...

But the case with MJ only differs because at his peak dude was the most famous man on the planet....Literally....

So the same artist that was forced to do comeback shows and leverage part of Beatles catalogue in order to stay out of the red (I really believe those This Is It shows killed him), when he leaves us it's only mildly shocking that since his death Mike's estate has pulled in nearly 1 BILLION DOLLARS....

Because after all, Michael Jackson was at a point the biggest entertainer this world has even seen....It's only right.....

Michael Jackson was killed beyond that tour, them WHite devils in that business never wanted a Black Man with that kind of Pull and Power. and MJ told the truth Jack. ask yourself why Tommy Mottola got fired and you know he was Mafia.

also MJ had his demons like we all do, however the brother was still the standard period. and he knew it. that thriller remix cornball project did 3 million copies in 08 and his back catelog still sold,

i was glad he owned the Mop Heads songs and if he wanted to use them as toliet paper than cool, MJ was Gangsta and he was always money.

sad part is that between Family and Industry the Man was treated as a ATM machine and not just as a regular cat.

but lets be real after his death it feels as if half of Music died with him. and their is a big ole hole without him.

he was a standard and all acts living in R&B, Hip Hop and Pop Music owe a Debt to the King of Music.

It's apples and oranges...Some artists r Disney...Some r Scorsese....

I don't judge artists on popularity contests....Miles Davis sold less than a fraction of what MJ sold, but I (my opinion) believe he had a more important musical impact....

That's just me...We can all agree to disagree on that one.....

FYI i'm a huge MILes fan as well all the music, books,etc.. and musically to a degree, however its subjective because Satcho Louis Armstrong double him as a trumpet player and also as a vocalist.

i loved Miles and all the bands and concepts. but MJ was on a whole different level and it don't matter how you present this or that if you got the songs and that "IT" well that is that. and Miles did cover "human Nature" in his shows and he did give MJ respect.

i can say without a doubt that more genres of Music have cited Michael Jackson more so than Miles, however Miles was something else and arguably even more important as band leader and concepts than for his trumpet playing, because on the real Clifford Brown had him on the ropes until that accident.

for a long time with me it was MJ and MD and some folks who know me already knew.

If he stayed with his Bros he would have never became MICHAEL JACKSON.....

Mike's problems were deeper than him sticking with his brothers......There were some deep rooted issues happening....Towards the end of his life he did't have enough people on his team that didn't care enough about him to not look at him as a paycheck....

Nah he wouldnt have been wrapped up in those kid allegations for one..no sleep chamber madness etc bs either...

he'd have dealt with the physical pain of his head surgery more adequately imho

staying with th fma would hve kept him more grounded

not saying he still didnt or wouldnt have issues

It's somewhat complicated. When you have "friends", family, and associates who aren't very trustworthy, that's a problem

MJ's issues were heightened from being so famous and not having the right people in his corner after 1991

doesnt mean he'd end up broke etc exactly

he could still have shrewd business acumen if he still did solo and family records/tours

He didn't have any intention to never work with his brothers again but after Victory, there was a creative rift with some of them (not to mention Jermaine's subtle jabs leading up to Word To The Badd)

I also feel he should've collaborated with his siblings on projects after '84 but considering the circumstances and the fact that anytime he DID agree to it, there was some drama in the wings (the Moonies situation, Jackson Family Honors, the Humanity album)

You think he had few people with his best interests at heart when he died?

Had he kept those fools close to him they'd have enabled his whims to a far worse degree and if/when his health declined? There might not be an estate left right today.

Everything I've ever read on the subject (including the book Untouchable) suggests he was treated like little more than a meal ticket. They saw him the way a seedy agent or record exec would have. Not as a brother they sincerely loved.

This stance is rooted in information that's widely known, consistent and easily researched.

There's very little to suggest he'd have been better off staying closer to a family that was more concerned about how HIS success impacted THEIR success.

And really, that's the only reason anyone takes the stance you're taking: people wanted Mike to prop up the Jackson Five at the expense of himself. People wanted Mike to stay close for the benefit of his brothers, not because that would have been a benefit to Mike.

naw.

if not for Dr. Murray's outrageous negligence in administering propofol under substandard conditions and then failing to monitor MJ every minute while he was knocked out from the propofol then MJ would've survived. after seeing the This Is It movie i disbelieve reports that he was in frail condition and ill health around the time he died. or and i'm not convinced that he couldn't have performed. also i believe anyone would've died if faced w/the set of circumstances that lead to MJ's death. it wasn't about the shows, IMO.

fuck you.

Yes...But from my own interviews and talking with folks who were in his camp, MJ's sleep condition was caused over serious issues connected with his chronic anxiety. The shows were simply too much for him. He had already had issues sleeping (again, I'm getting this from folks who begged him to get rest and postpone those shows). But the This Is It gigs pushed him over the brink. Yep, Dr. Murray negligence played the most tragic part, but the shows added gasoline to the fire....

yes but his family and close friends have said he struggled w/insomnia for years - way b4 the This Is It shows were planned. in fact they suspect that's what drew him to propofol - he'd said over the years he'd noticed he got the best 'sleep' when he was knocked out for surgery.

i don't think so. i think Dr. Murray's negligence was the gas and the match.

And Jamie Foxx making up shit about him not being able to

Then when he died, Jamie talkin about "he was ours!"

Paul Mooney said it tho.
