"Criticize rather than create: the downfall of OKP"
this isn't going to be as thought provoking as I would like it to be because I'm at work. And I probably won't come back to check on this post.
This place used to be filled with so many creative minds. Artists, musicians, writers etc. We used to come together over our differences. Now all we do is antagonize one another, belittle one another. We used to take each other to the side talk about what pissed you off move on and make the next post.
If there was something in the media we didn't like...we came here and did our OKP version and made it what we wanted it to be or what we thought it should be.
We supported each other. Business ventures, kids, music, whatever. We WERE family. I feel like my parents got divorced while I was away at school and I'm not sure if I should stay home or move out and make some other moves in life.
I've always thought of this place as my coming of age moment...the placed that introduced me to some good music, movies and great people. Hell this place was my first bookmark on the damn internet.
but we're so quick to talk trash to each other...not like "the dozens" type of trash, but the kind of hurtful shit that makes people want to jump off a bridge, just because someone viewed something a little differently than you.
Shit just fucks with me guys. Maybe because I'm on my period or maybe you motherfuckers changed and not for the better

even back in the wayback that video would've gotten the gasface from most of us and those who defended it would get a side-eye - unless the defense was so solid it made at least some of us re-think our opinion.

You should expect it. You should be prepared for it. You should be ready to shit on them back lol. On or offline, thats just life. Not everyone is gonna have the same view as you and not everyone is gonna have the same type of respect or maturity.
As far as back in the day I think im the only one here who has been here long enough and participated with the people who were creating. Most of those people left or lurk or post once a month.
I'm def more of an asshole in how i talk to people on here than I was before because thats what the internet evolved into. Especially on this site. People acting brand new like we didn't talk like dicks to eachother on here all the time. I think less people took it to heart tho back then, people are much more sensitive on here than they were before. Ionno.
Im always down to support things if I like them. If I don't thats okay too. U shouldnt be hurt by that.

All I ever got was snark from this place even when I was trying to be nice to folks. It was literally the "meanest" board I'd ever been on and still is. I liked it simply because there were different kinds of people who saw things from different perspectives and were able to articulate those perspectives well. Different people from this site have opened my eyes to different things. However, some of those same people are still some of the biggest assholes I've ever interacted with. I've never known OKP to be nice as a whole. There are a few nice people here, but the assholes have always been louder and more numerous, and the vast majority of OKP's only have certain other OKP's they're nice to... it's a clique-ish mentality. I picked up on that right away, so it's always EXTREMELY laughable when people talk like OKP was butterflies and rainbows at one point... comes across like Trump saying 'make america great again'. Yall might be talking about the first couple of years the site popped off or something, but yall been a board of assholes for a very long time now.

back in the day. OKPs were hanging out, partying together, screwing... so when people came at each other online, the barbs had some real bite to them. If someone you never met personally comes at you sideways, or passes judgement on you, it just doesn't have the same effect imo.

....lots of people left for various reasons. There's another post on that somewhere earlier this year I think.
Okp has always been brutal. A few weeks ago a music industry player I really respect and follow on Twitter tweeted something about checking out the boards back in the day and having to leave shortly after because of how snobbish and rude posters were.
I felt it personally. But for the most part...like in life you keep it moving. There're people on here who've stayed in my home...some have put me up in their place. My kid knows a few .. Saying all that to say....with fewer people posting...the balance shifts at times. But we've got everybody here. The good the bad and the ugly..
I have nothing to base this on but I think if the boards can stick around for a while longer there could very well be another 'golden era'.
