especially LA local news. it's almost entirely ridiculous.

well, that's not true. it's just that the tone was unusual given what i'm used to. i was surprised there was so much coverage of entertainment news as local news. and i mean they'd provide updates on what happened on the broadcast of Dancing With the Stars as if it that were news. and they talked about the new Harry Potter ride thing at Universal like it was one of the biggest events ever. and the Jungle Book premiere too w/the red carpet and all that. but i guess maybe it makes sense given how much entertainment industry work goes on out there? but naw...even w/that i was put off by the local news out there.

and all of the Kobe shit was just too much. one anchor kept referring to him as 'one Kobe Bryant' or 'the great Kobe Bryant'...i just LOL'd.

fuck you.

I'm from Boston, and I can't imagine any other city's local news being more annoying, especially during the "deflategate" scandal.

If anything, he's between eras. If we're defining eras by the players, he can't claim either half because MJ and Bron were bigger stars. And if we're talking styles of play, then Kobe's still between two distinct eras.

that's what has made him so special. he was all NBA first-team defense in his prime/half his career, so i think he'd be great in any era.

one of the most underrated passers in history too as a skillset. only saw spurts of greatness there 'cause of the relentless chucking.

Shaq overlapped the primes of the OG Dream Team guys. Kobe has a well-defined group of Post-Jordan era stars: Duncan, KG, AI, Dirk, T-Mac, Vince, Allen, Pierce, etc. The next group was LeBron, Wade, Carmelo, CP3, etc.

It could always be legitimately argued that either Shaq, Duncan or Bron were better, any time during Kobe's prime. Kobe's never CLEARLY owned era..

Even during his MVP year, Bron was noticeably better and way more impactful.

Tim destroyed teams in a different way though. Maybe it's his style of play.....The Spurs in general have this low-key way of getting under your skin and totally undermining any gameplan you have in the most rudimentary ways.

In response to Reply # 81
Wed Apr-13-16 10:17 PM by FILF

Tim at 37 almost won Finals MVP while going up against PEAK Bron in 2013, Pop took him out of the game when he had the trophy in his hands which cost the Spurs the series.

Bron also shot 35% against the Spurs in the 2007 Finals after destroying the Pistons in the paint mainly b/c Tim was protecting the rim.

LeBron himself has said Tim is the best player of his generation even BEFORE the 2013 Finals.

Tim has been the UNDISPUTED best player on FOUR championship teams: '99,'03,'05,'07 & was the most consistent performer on the 2014 title team.

Bron: '12, '13 (6 Finals appearance but lost 4 times to the Western champs #Leasternconference)

Bron also had two opposing SFs win Finals MVP while matched up against him meanwhile Bosh had ZERO points in Gm 7 of the 2013 Finals going up against Tim, lol.

WHAT'S GOOD *****? What's REALLY good?!?!????!!! Ha HA!

and has more of of an impact than Timmy.

Bron is a singular talent like no other. A player that instantly makes a shitty team into a contender. Add in the 4 MVPs, 6 straight Finals, the ongoing career milestones, and the fact that he barely over 30, and its easy to see why he's better.

sure Timmy is more accomplished, but thats moreso due to team success than anything else. Only metric you can say Timmy is a "better" player is by rings count, but we all know how asinine that notion is

22. "Kobe Bryant the man, wasn't raised right:"
In response to Reply # 0

Kobe Bryant the player learned the game from the ground up. he studied it and worked relentlessly to master it. he had a respect and appreciation for the game. with a father that played pro, he had access to resources. and he took full advantage of it.

then there's Kobe Bryant the man. he wasn't raised right.

when he was young, he spent alot of time either alone or around people who couldnt school him on life lessons. he didn't have a crew like most young men growing up. he didn't have the older heads that teach lessons either directly or they just do what they do while you watch. growing up around people, you learn to never snitch and to never lie on your dick and you get used to hanging out with people and socializing and maneurvering. Kobe ain't have that. he spent way too much time being the most important person in the room.

he never went to college.

neither did moses malone or lebron but those two were different. moses was already a seasoned, hardened grown ass man at 18. lebron had a crew and he was raised like a normal kid and without access to foreign countries and the best of everything.

Kobe never went to college. had he spent a year playing at Kentucky or Duke or Carolina or Arizona or any of those top tier schools in the mid '90s, he woulda spent time around other guys and been normal. normal guys joke each other, check each other, look out for each other, fight each other, all that. Kobe woulda learned how to be one of the guys in college rather than try to learn among men in the NBA.

Kobe Bryant the man wasn't raised right. he spent all those years in the NBA being the weirdo and learning the lessons the rest of us learned in adolescence.

most men are so turned off by Kobe the man that it takes away from Kobe the player.

as a man, Jordan's a dick. but he wasn't a weirdo. he could be around the guys and be one of the guys. he was better than everybody else but he could still be in the mix and in the middle of everything and be social. maybe being on a stacked Carolina team with James Worthy on it helped.

who knows.

and on the court, Kobe dominated his era like Jordan dominated his. but we see Jordan as an alpha male & Kobe as weirdo.

cuz Kobe wasn't raised right...

That analysis was fucking brilliant. Validate your point: he could never muster soldiers after the Pistons split Shaquille and Kobe. A nigger raised right with his talent could have gotten more by himself, but alas(fake sighing from a Pistons fan). We bury kings.

You can argue shaq. Also when does his era begin and end? If Lebron counts you're looking at maybe 4th or below.

2nd greatest Laker ever

But

he's not the 2nd best player that have played for the Lakers

1.Kareem
2.Wilt
3.Magic
4.Shaq
5.Kobe

But only Magic and Kobe played their entire career in LA which has to be factored in

In response to Reply # 75

He was the best player ever to play for the Lakers because he was the best player ever to play. But to me the career guys and Kareem (who essentially put in a mortal man's full career there) get the nod over him in the Laker hierarchy.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Then who else could be better

For the time he was in the league he was probably the best even if Lebron came in late & tried to steal his shine

Actually, Duncan could give him a run for his money

Where Tim Duncan gonna be for his last game? Prolly resting.

-The Knicks’ coaching search still includes a lone frontrunner, Kurt Rambis, whose qualifications for the position include a strong relationship with Jackson and a willingness to take the job.

Pop WITHOUT Tim:

Feel WITHOUT Kirby:

-545-193
-6 Chips

Kirby WITHOUT Feel

-34-48
-Missed the postseason
-Zero series victories

Kobe Bryant says he's jealous of Tim Duncan: "I can't express to you how much I'm jealous," Bryant told LA Daily News.

w/o question the worst retirement season in league history on the worst Laker team in franchise history, only the 76ers lost more gms this season

And kudos to him for having one last hurrah....albeit in a meaningless game for both LA and Utah...and he took a RECORD *50* shots to do it when his teammates and coach tried to get him the ball EVERY TRIP DOWN THE FLOOR lol

This whole season has been an L for Kobe and Laker fans alike

We had this argument on Bookface.

I'll take it to the basics.

Kobe as the undisputed best player on his team? All star gunner who never sniffed the Finals. He needed either O'Neal or Gasol to team with him.

LeBron made it to the Finals damn near by himself (Yes it was the East, but still)

Kobe has never been as much of a regular Triple Double threat as LeBron in his prime.

He's not as physically imposing. He is DEFINITELY more of a killer than Bron.

So...to be fair...they both share the top spot.

I'd trade either one of those motherfuckers to have Tim Duncan's career, tho

81 points in a game. Play in a flashy huge market city like LA. Have a shoe that sells very well. Talk crazy to other plays and reporters. Have the best selling jersey. etc etc

That he wouldn't be considered the best player of his generation. Really really sad.

Lebron CLEARLY stated, if we are just looking at their basketball career, Tim was the best player of his generation BEFORE the 2013 Finals: Probably one of the best players to ever play the game of basketball,” he said of Duncan. “If I just look at the last 15 years, he’s probably been the most consistent, most dominant player that we’ve had as far as 15 years all together. He’s won four titles, multiple All Stars, MVP, and so on and so on.

Kareem/Russell also passed on the same sentiment: "I would say that Tim Duncan has had a better career just because they’ve been able to win more consistently".

Essentially, 3 of the top 10 players including one that's affiliated w/ Kobe has sided w/ Tim. That matters more than media pundits or players who side w/ Kobe b/c they idolized him & some out of pity for a fallen star.

WHAT'S GOOD *****? What's REALLY good?!?!????!!! Ha HA!

In response to Reply # 141

I don't think he could put in the minutes to do pull it off.

But let's say he could; You have to wonder if he could even generate enough of his own shots to do it, or if he would need to be fed all of the opportunities like a lingering, slow goon by a cast of foreigners. Could he make enough really really fundamentally sound layups to add up to 60?

It's doubtful.

As a matter of fact I will say it would be completely impossible.

Watch 30 for 30 Shaq & penny and you'll c prime Shaq, that was perfectly built team with a lean and mean Shaq. Fuckers beat Jordan n layoff series and still didn't win chip. It took Kobe to get Shaq over the top (c 2:15 mark here: http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=15170627
) check history before u throw up this blasphemy. Go check stats on playoff runs after first chip, Kobe did heavy lifting in playoffs until they got to finals, then Shaq would turn up n finals & get mvp. For decade of 2k, Kobe bean was baddest motherfucker n the nba, period. Actually, his prime years was after Shaq left and before he won the last two chips, wasted cause of talent around him. Nash got two of his mvps.

during his prime. Kobe was never on Shaq's level. 99-02 Shaq was in Argument for the greatest player ever, when is Kobe seeing that?

houston was a better team than Orlando and Shaq got their on rawness and a cornball coach.

Kobe ain't never done a thing without Phil. Airball start and treating other coaches like substitute teachers.

Shaq got his jersey retired in 3 places jack. Kobe could never take his talents elsewhere like Shaq and win.

all the finals Kobe lost in, he stunk. the last one with him and Shaq, Shaq was better

with 3 different teams and had the better career. KObe was already on basketball life support in that game 7 finals of 2010. lets real he should have retired after that because from 2011 til now he hardly counted.

If he played on San Antonio he would come off the bench and play 15-20 minutes a night. His team was sorry so they made their season a traveling circus. Whooptyfuckingdo. The balls of anyone to be poo-pooing Duncan in favor of Kobe at this point, wow.
