The majority of their workout gear is cut for the athletic frame. I see some pear shaped cats rocking it in the gym and it's not a good look.

Those dudes that kinda have a little shape, but they have no cuts, no definition and a bunch of flab. Seen dudes come in the gym all geared-up looking brolic, but then struggle with 135 on the bench. Shit is the same as those tights jawns wear... smooths out the wrinkles, tucks in that flab, gives a little lift, etc. Apparently some dudes rock UA shirts under their button downs for reasons like that.

Then, there are the pear- and apple-shaped dudes that rock it, but I know they aren't trying to fool anyone.

One thing I noticed about diesel dudes is that they look diesel no matter what they are wearing.

Unfortunately, the stuff I bought isn't on the Under Armour website anymore. Would be cool if Roots of Fight became a larger name. I think they are making shirts featuring The Rock in the future based on some old tweets (I truly despise that word) I read a while ago, so hopefully that'll move the needle.

I'll work out in UA, but I'd never just rock it casually. If they made the best running shoe for my foot, I'd wear it. I already run in Brooks, so I'm all about function, when it comes to running, but I can't see myself wearing any nonrunning under armor kicks.

But more because of their support of the Brian Billick era Ravens

I was forced into owning a couple of their hats, and I have a few fleece pullovers, from some corporate sponsored events. They're quality products, but the kicks...no thanks.

The skully is made of fleece, but somehow it's built to be tight as shit, like a wintry doo-rag. UA has me on the slopes when I take that helmet off looking like Ray Lewis...on that Deer Antler.

The shoes look kind of bootleg though. I'd never cop those.

He wore the Anatomix Spawn one year, the Clutchfit Drive and Curry 1 last year and now the Curry 2 this season.

We also had a thread like this but whatever. Basically they have a long way to go in terms of aesthetics but they have come a very long way in a very short time. They have also kept an eye on performance at all times.

The shoes I think are the best and most consistent performers on the market. They never deliver an outright dud, Nike and Adidas do all the time. They have never had a total stinker like the Kobe 10 and their stuff is priced lower than their competitors, too, plus it ends up even cheaper. Some of their shoes have been really outstanding, I've worn literally thousands of different models over the years and several of theirs stand out to me among the best for basketball and training. Low-profile stuff, too, actually the Curry signature shoes have been mediocre to me, much better was like the Anatomix Anomaly, Juke series and the first couple of Torch models, the Gridiron and Highlight trainers were awesome, too. Their running stuff is a little weird, not a lot of variety for different types of runners but their models are versatile enough, I guess. I got a pair of those Fortis runners, been wearing them to the gym lately, very comfortable.

When it comes to workout stuff, yeah some of it is not for the portly individual but that is true of Nike, too (pro combat and other fitted/tapered stuff). UA also has stuff that's cut more amply and golf stuff for fat guys, too.

The type of ground they have made up, the shrewd decisions they have made, the emphasis on performance and their branching into literally every conceivable market (major team sports plus hunting, tactical, golf, tennis, etc) is pretty impressive. I wanted to invest in them last year and fucked up, I should have. I still don't think think they are a bad buy even at a higher price. Very ambitious company that is moving forward in a hurry, even if some of their shit still looks weird (like the Charge BB, shits looked like hockey skates lol. The low top versions were nice though, very comfy).

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

They fucked up in a major way but let's face it Adidas clearly demonstrated a lack of interest also. The thing that gets me is the sort of weird threshold matter when it comes to signature athletes. Either you're worth the LeBron/Tiger money or you're worth 10% of that. So few in-betwen deals.

Seriously tho, they should change the name to Steph's Armour...that sounds cooler. The name as is sounds like it's fire antiperspirant deodorant NOT athletic wear, just my .02.

that is still a big breadwinner for them. a lot of guys in the NHL who have contracts with other manufacturers like Reebok/CCM, Nike, etc wear UA stuff under their uniform since the logo isn't visible like it would be on their gloves, visor, etc. That says something because obviously they can get all the free shit they want from their sponsor, and they still buy UA instead.

Charge series was unique for sure, Juke 2 was cool looking and the Anomaly series came off well in some colors.

The Steph 1 was a missed opportunity in terms of performance but I admit it was nice looking. The CFD took a while to grow on me. About half the colors were ugly as fuck but others were sharp. Curry 2 is a pretty clean look, I have not really gotten out on the court in them yet.

47. "how Nike lost Curry (espn swipe)"

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/15047018/how-nike-lost-stephen-curry-armour

IT'S NOV. 17, 2015, and it's throwback-jersey night in Oakland. Steph Curry flaunts a retro look as he readies himself to play the Raptors. The reigning MVP strolls into the locker room, sporting bright yellow shorts at what can only be described as 1970s length. After he ties his Under Armour Curry 2 sneakers, he dresses for the most public of preparations. By this point, it has become clear that fans are showing up earlier, in increasing numbers, just to see Curry warm up. His is now a cult of personality so powerful, thousands flock to see a man play basketball against the air.

Before Curry trots out to the screaming throngs, the man who can move a nation's worth of money explains his short shorts. He smiles and proclaims, "I'm going Bazemore style." Bazemore style, as in Bazemore's bold penchant for wearing shorts that are briefer than briefs. Bazemore was a Warrior once, an undrafted rookie in 2012 who seized scraps of attention with yoga-pose celebrations from the bench. Back then, while collecting DNPs, he got on the ground floor of something that rose because he asked Curry to lift it.

Since he entered the league, "Bazemore style," has also meant being swaddled in Under Armour apparel. "He's like the biggest spokesperson for the brand," says Curry, the actual biggest UA spokesperson. "Always wears new stuff, wears my stuff." You can often see Bazemore wearing Curry's signature shoes. Increasingly, America's youth are joining in that predilection.

On March 3, 2016, Business Insider relayed a note from Morgan Stanley analyst Jay Sole on Under Armour's business prospects. In it, Curry's potential worth to the company is placed at more than a staggering $14 billion. Sole's call on UA's stock is bearish relative to other prognosticators, but for one man's power to change everything.

His note reads, "UA's U.S. basketball shoe sales have increased over 350 percent YTD. Its Stephen Curry signature shoe business is already bigger than those of LeBron, Kobe and every other player except Michael Jordan. If Curry is the next Jordan, our call will likely be wrong."

What few fans know is the backstory of all this -- how the most electric player in a generation slipped through the grasp of the most powerful sports apparel company in the world, and how Under Armour pulled off the marketing heist of the century.

IN THE 2013 offseason -- coming off a year in which Curry had started 78 games and the Warriors had made the Western Conference semis -- Nike owned the first opportunity to keep Curry. It was its privilege as the incumbent with an advantage that extended beyond vast resources. "I was with them for years," Curry says. "It's kind of a weird process being pitched by the company you're already with. There was some familiar faces in there."

Curry was a Nike athlete long before 2013, though. His godfather, Greg Brink, works for Nike. He wore the shoes growing up, sported the swoosh at Davidson. In his breakout 54-point game at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 28, 2013, he was wearing Nike Zoom Hyperfuse, a pair of sneakers he still owns, tucked away in his East Bay Area home, shielded from the light of day. "They're not up front and center," Curry says of the pair. "I definitely kept all my favorite just as a memory of where my career has gone."

Nike had every advantage when it came to keeping Curry. Incumbency is a massive recruiting edge for a shoe company, as players often express a loyalty to these brands their NBA franchises might envy. And Nike wasn't just any shoe company. It's the shoe company that claims cultural and monetary dominance over the sneaker market. According to Nick DePaula of The Vertical, Nike has signed 68 percent of NBA players, more than 74 percent if you include Nike's Jordan Brand subsidiary. In the 2012 Olympics, Mike Krzyzewski, a Nike endorser, coached an entire roster of 11 Nike-signed athletes and Kevin Love, who merely wore the shoes.

Its hold on consumers is even tighter. According to Forbes, Nike accounted for 95.5 percent of the basketball sneaker market in 2014. In short, its grip on the NBA universe is reflective of a corporation claiming Michael Jordan heritage and a $100 billion market cap -- all advantages that might explain why Nike's pitch to Curry evoked something hastily thrown together by a hungover college student.

The August meeting took place on the second floor of the Oakland Marriott, three levels below Golden State's practice facility. Famed Nike power broker and LeBron James adviser Lynn Merritt was not present, a possible indication of the priority -- or lack thereof -- that Nike was placing on the meeting. Instead, Nico Harrison, a sports marketing director at the time, ran the meeting (Harrison, who has since been named Nike's vice president of North America basketball operations, did not respond to multiple interview requests).

In truth, there had been other indications that Nike lacked interest before this meeting. There was the matter of whether Curry would get to lead a Nike-sponsored camp for up-and-coming players. These camps aren't high on the list of fan concerns, but they matter deeply to the game's elite. They're a chance to teach a younger generation, to have interactions more meaningful than strangers clamoring for autographs on the street.

Getting to run such a camp meant something to Curry, in part because participating in one meant something to him. When he was younger, Curry had gone to Chris Paul's camp and the experience made a lasting impression. Says Curry's friend and former roommate Chris Strachan, "He was always at Chris Paul's camps as a young guy, and he always looked up to Chris Paul. He took a lot of the stuff that CP does with film sessions and he implemented it."

Strachan recalls of 2013, "That summer, when it was really decision time, were looking at Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis coming up. They gave Kyrie a camp and they gave Anthony Davis a camp. They didn't give Steph a camp."

The pitch meeting, according to Steph's father Dell, who was present, kicked off with one Nike official accidentally addressing Stephen as "Steph-on," the moniker, of course, of Steve Urkel's alter ego in Family Matters. "I heard some people pronounce his name wrong before," says Dell Curry. "I wasn't surprised. I was surprised that I didn't get a correction."

It got worse from there. A PowerPoint slide featured Kevin Durant's name, presumably left on by accident, presumably residue from repurposed materials. "I stopped paying attention after that," Dell says. Though Dell resolved to "keep a poker face," throughout the entirety of the pitch, the decision to leave Nike was in the works.

In the meeting, according to Dell, there was never a strong indication that Steph would become a signature athlete with Nike. "They have certain tiers of athletes," Dell says. "They have Kobe, LeBron and Durant, who were their three main guys. If he signed back with them, we're on that second tier."

Dell makes an analogy back to the past, when Dell's alma mater, Virginia Tech, offered his son the mere opportunity try out as a walk-on. This was familiar territory for a player who'd long prevailed over projections. "Wasn't highly recruited, wasn't highly respected, wasn't highly thought of," Dell says. "It was kind of like that, you know?"

Dell's message for his son was succinct: "Don't be afraid to try something new." Steph Curry had thrived on proving people wrong for the entirety of his career. He had delighted in it, even. And Nike was giving him fuel.

THE SNEAKER BUSINESS exists parallel to the basketball business, except not completely. Estimates peg total sneaker sales somewhere north of $20 billion annually, and rising. The total worth of NBA basketball is harder to gauge, but the $2.15 billion sale of the traditionally ignoble Los Angeles Clippers speaks to its riches. Both basketball and basketball shoes are massive operations, deriving their dollars from the consumer's obsession with winners. More specifically, with cool winners. Football can be ugly and popular. Baseball can be slow and profitable. The NBA needs physical charisma, individuals with moves so graceful viewers ache to imitate them.

You can't be Michael Jordan, but you can rent a part of his life when you wear Jordans. For millions of people, that slice of happiness is worth the cost.

Think of the sneaker world as composed of shadows -- shadows that might or might not reflect the size of players' on-court reputations. Consider Kyrie Irving. He's an All-Star, yes, but he has yet to be a serious MVP candidate or even conclude an NBA season healthy. In the sneaker world, though, the lights shine brightly on him, casting a larger shadow over the industry than his game would suggest. Irving's artfully serrated Kyrie 1s have done excellent business for Nike. Morgan Stanley projects his 2016 sales at $51 million and his newest Kyrie 2s received a wide release. Though he has played in only one postseason, Irving's handles, shot-making and viral Uncle Drew advertisements with Pepsi comprises an alchemy of "cool" necessary for moving product on a huge scale.

It's highly possible that back in 2013 Curry wasn't considered cool enough, relative to the building Kyrie Irving phenomenon. Both happened to play the same position and redundancy is a real issue in marketing. For these companies, it's imperative that whomever they're selling is defined and distinct. Basketball-shoe impresario Sonny Vaccaro, who has had his own complicated past with Nike -- he was instrumental in building their brand around Jordan but was fired in 1991 -- has a strict motto for marketing players: "You can only market the individual."

In this way, Nike's strength is indivisible from its weakness. As the top brand, it claims the most stars, by far. That's a massive advantage, but basketball marketing is an act of minimalism. Promote too many athletes and the message becomes garbled.

IRVING, FOR ALL his success, is still a relatively short point guard, and relatively short point guards traditionally haven't taken precedence at Nike. Irving's shoes have the lowest price point among their signature stars, at around $110, a pricetag that suggests volume matters more than prestige. Nike's highest-priced shoes are hawked by athletic wings. Michael Jordan was the prototype, Kobe was the heir, and LeBron carries on the tradition. To be the face of Nike means looking something beyond a regular person.

As someone familiar with Nike's marketing operation says, in regard to Curry: "Everything that makes him human and cuddly and an unlikely monster is anathema to Nike. They like studs with tight haircuts and muscles." This, then, is the paradox of Steph Curry: The reason he was ignored is the reason he's so popular. Nike looked past him for the very reason so many fans now can't look anywhere else.

"He went to Davidson," Vaccaro says. "He was always overlooked. He was skinny, he was frail, he was all the things you weren't supposed to be. He never got his due. All of a sudden, like a bolt of lightning, Steph Curry is on the scene. And this is the hardest thing for Nike to swallow right now."

Vaccaro says, "What you're witnessing is a phenomenon. This is like Michael signing with Nike in '84. He's going to morph into the most recognizable athlete. And why is he going to be that? Because he's like everybody else."

Nike, to be fair, can't be faulted for failing to foresee the current Steph Curry reality. That reality is just too surreal. Few predicted anything like last year's MVP and championship season. And so far this season, he's making those numbers look quaint. Even Curry's confidants confide they never saw this coming. Those who most deeply believed in Steph Curry, those who, for years, argued on his behalf, couldn't have imagined thousands of fans on the road, showing up 75 minutes before the tipoff, just to catch a glimpse of his warm-up.

Still, there were indications of a building trend, signs Nike ignored. In the 2012-13 season, Curry set the record for made 3-pointers, a testament to his unique skill, but also to how the NBA was shifting. The game was drifting farther out to the perimeter, with 3-pointers taking greater precedent in an increasingly analytically inclined league. Star centers were in short supply; Dwight Howard's reign as the best 5-man drew more opprobrium than praise. Point guards were on the rise. The next big thing on the horizon was relatively small.

While nobody in 2013 could have foreseen the magnitude of Curry-as-cultural-phenomenon, there were forecasts that something like it was imminent. Over that 2012-13 season, ESPN's Amin Elhassan repeatedly, and incredulously, stated that Curry should be a superstar. On May 6, 2013, he summarized his case on Twitter:

Again: how isnt Curry most popular player in NBA? If you're a lil kid, U can never relate to 6'8 250 w/ 40" vert, but u can relate to Curry

— Amin Elhassan (@AminESPN) May 7, 2013

I don't fugg with their shoes, but will buy them for my kids. they don't care about shoe brands yet.

I got one pair of nikes, air max running shoes. the first pair I've had in maybe 10-12 years. don't think I'll ever run in them. they feel bulky.

adidas all the way for me. the boost line of running shoes, yup.

Nike is falling off pretty hard, man, they know it, too and that is why they are introducing a ton of new tech and new looks for 2016.

They keep cutting corners on quality and rushing things to market, otherwise dropping the ball. Given their resources it's incredible, really. What they have done with the LeBron line since it really took off is an abomination. Totally blowing the legacy of the line. They have not gotten KD to that next level despite spending all that money on him to keep him away from UA. The Kobe line they have managed well but soon he will retire and the Kobe 10 was pretty much an abortion of engineering and aesthetics alike. What they did with the Jordan XXX is embarrassing, too.

Under Armour is still small potatoes by comparison but their growth rate is drawing attention and rightfully so. I have always been a Nike guy but I play in UA now. What Nike does with its retro stuff is also shameful. They cut so many corners than the new versions feel unrecognizable to someone like me who had (or in many cases still has) the OGs. When I buy a retro, I want the same shoe again because the shelf life of an athletic shoe, worn or not, is roughly five years. I find myself risking it wearing shit from 15-20 years ago because the new versions are a far cry, lacking the distinctive elements of the original (Air volume, carbon fiber midfoot plates, quality leather, etc). The new Nike stuff is all synthetic and a mixed bag at best, some of them are downright cheap. UA's stuff feels light and cheap but it's actually more durable in most cases.

I think the newer Jordan releases are the only thing keeping pace quality and performance wise, and ironically they are much less popular than the retros.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I know that the first shoe was not terribly popular (from $150 in stores to $25 in Marshall's in abundance) but looking at the secondary market now they go for retail again. His popularity has risen steadily since that first shoe, obviously really spiking this year. He sells a ton of cleats for them. They sorta did an edition of the Phenom Trainer (great shoe BTW) for him but not really, they also did Panthers Curry 2s but nothing to do with Cam. I thought the first shoe was pretty decent though the highlight cut obviously turned some people off. Why not come back with another signature shoe? They have waited a long time but he is still under contract. Their training stuff is great, Clutchfit Highlight Trainer is a shoe you can work in for hours and hours and still feel your feet cushioned and fresh (though they do sweat a lot, such is the nature of the Clutchfit material).

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Plank is a Maryland guy through and through and is trying VERY hard to be MD's Phil Knight. While they have Steph and their ball shoes are top notch performance wise, they need a Tinker Hatfield type to lift them up on the style front and help them really break into the sneaker conversation...

I've played in them a few times and am happy, especially for the price. Cushioning is a little firmer than I prefer, but the traction and fit are both very good. They look pretty good IMO. But I really don't care what my kicks look like for my pickup games.

Beyond that I've got a few dri-fit shirts for working out/running in. It gets the job done, but I generally don't notice much difference between brands for workout gear. If the price is right, I really don't care about what brand I'm working out in.

I really don't like the Under Armour hoodies with the giant logo.

shit in the 90s like osweego 2, eqt gazelle, eqt harmony and eqt salvation were good and all used it. kobe 2 and real deal 2 i liked a lot. but overall it was junk, good concept, terrible execution.

the boost stuff is weird, it's a little squishy in some models and too firm in others. only a few strike a good balance. the ultra boost, adistar boost and pure boost ZG were all pretty good. response boost was OK of the "fast" ones with a lower profile. to me they are a little clunky for running but very comfortable for just chilling.

the basketball boost is still in its infancy. the rose models were good and they have a model wiggins is going to wear (was originally the wall 3) that looks very interesting. obviously being encapsulated means it will never have the same feel as the runner, but they are working on incorporating better than on like the crazylight series (which kind of sucks).

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Cushioning doesn't seem as firm....either it softened up some or I got used to it. It feels pretty nice now. Since they've been broken in I barely even notice that they're on my feet. Very light, very minimal, they fit great and are comfortable. And the traction is great. Different from what I was previously used to, but it's a great shoe to hoop in.

Haven't paid close attention because I know I'm not buying it, but I thought the 2.5 has different upper materials and a different fit around the ankle.

In response to Reply # 53

i mean for openers, it doesn't look like what it is. it doesn't look like a U and an A, it looks like a fucking X.

beyond that they struggle with sizing and placement as you said, this is something discussed constantly among aspiring designers and critics of the industry.

reebok had similar issues and frankly they never overcame them. they and asics (both fairly similar logos) both tried the whole large integration of the logo, but it never really worked the way it did for adidas with their much simpler three stripe logo. i actually think the trefoil adidas logo was pretty brilliant, too, and the equipment logo was OK, too. those experiments may help UA figure out what works.

personally i think the gutsiest logo thing is what nike did with jordan's shoes. basically from the air jordan 2 to the air jordan 23 (and with some models since), they eliminated the logo placement and decided to let the distinctive style of the shoe stand alone. it was challenging but not impossible once jordan expanded to an entire brand rather than one signature line. i would consider if i were UA and a lot of their silhouettes are that distinctive (though not nearly as classy). i guess they gave it a shot with the charge BB, juke 2 and some others, very small X logos on the lateral side, large ones at the heel but nowhere on either side of the shoe. more looks like that would be good.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

In response to Reply # 0

when my son started playing hockey we went out looking for under armour dry fit shirts for him to wear. They sweat so much. Luckily my wife found 2 UA and 1 Nike brand $10 each. I refuse to pay $40 for an under shirt for a 6 year old. Baseball just started and he wanted a dry fit under shirt like his hockey shirts. He hates the old school baseball 3/4 shirts with the white body and colored sleeves. So I went on eastbay and got him one that is comparable to his UA shirt but only cost $12. Between that and the basketball shorts I bought there last summer I am a customer for life now.

I probably look like a homeless person at my gym. I wear sweat pants and a cheap tshirt. Everyone else is decked out in fashionable, presumably expensive gear. We're a bunch of sweaty guys at the gym....who are we trying to impress?

I gained weight so the old DRI-FIT type shirts I have don't fit anymore.

Now, I go with T-shirts with random logos on them and a pair of jogging or B-ball shorts.

But I have to admit I do want a pair of those compression pants that a lot of NBA players are wearing, even though the weather is generally nice where I live. LOL

this is more the colorway than the shoe.

that said, the UA logo is really underwhelming. it does look much better on Steph's hi-top models (which i'd rock if i hooped. he got some nice looking hi's).

the only model of Steph lows i saw that didn't look bad that were WHITE were the Champion low's that dropped to commemorate last year's title.

If you live in the DMV, this is not really a question. People wear Under Armour casually as often as they wear Nike. The company is based in Baltimore and you would think they sponsor the entire city as often as you see people in the gear.

Disclaimer
When I say casually, I'm mainly talking about compression gear that you would normally see people wearing in the gym but nowadays is just plain active wear that you would see anywhere. Shirts, Shorts, Tights, Hoodies, Sweatpants.

Shoes
My oldest son plays AAU basketball so I have been in gyms every weekend for the last 5 years. Around here I would say Under Armour and Nike probably share the market. But I'm strictly talking about footwear to actually play sports. If you go to the middle school or the High School you will not see kids wearing a lot of Under Armour casually. Kids are not sitting around discussing when the new Curry's come out. You may see them in some Speedforms or something and that is just mainly in Maryland. Nike still rules in that aspect. But in terms of actual sports, Under Armour is clearly carving out their niche. Just watch college football on Saturday.
