"Poll question: Do you talk about politics at work?"
It used to be kind of a taboo thing but it comes up a lot now. And while people wouldn't always come out and say who they're supporting its usually obvious who they like. A LOT of white folks like Trump, I've noticed this talking with neighbors too. Hillary better have her shit together because dude is a serious threat to win it all.

I seem to have been outed as the team leftie, so most days someone will try and get me started on something economics related. They all know I've got an American girlfriend too, so I have become to go-to for translating the unbridled fuckery of the US Elections into British English.

Like people who trash BHO, I can do that convo if you are pointing to actual policies. Which happened alot when the economy was tanking. But now that the economy is doing reasonably well and I point that out to folks they move onto some other amorphous thing and then you begin to realize that it's just a feeling in their gut, probably racist.
It's like abortion, or music, there isn't any reasoning that makes you arrive at your position, it's just a gut feeling.
When we get to that point you are treading on ground where we will end up offending each other.

There's a productive way to discuss politics, especially with someone whose views differ from yours. Some people know how to do it but most folks in 2016 in America don't.

If some poor soul is absolutely crushed by Commandante MaObama's socialist communist unconstitutional agenda then I comfort her after work.
Other than that, the answer is no. The closest you'll find is me laughing at them when they express concern over racism. By racism I mean the world changing before them and the apparent concern that because other people gain power their power is somehow meaningless.
*EDIT*
Does laughing at YT butthurt over Beyonce count? I had the neverending smile/smirk going on at work. People were upset over Beyonce's political statement and I couldn't stop smiling for some odd reason.
Each of the TV's in the break room were set to a different news network. You could hear my hit co-workers bitching about Obama, until someone black came in, then it got real quiet.

we talk about all of the politically incorrect stuff at work and it's quite crazy. I come home and tell my bf or my mom about these conversations and they are like, "WHAT!??!"
for example: one day at lunch the election came up and two dudes got into it over abortion, one was left one was right and it got heated. My bossed asked them to relax and then asked each of us to state our top three personal issues in this election. Being the only Black Female at the table, I was the only one to say Race and Women's issues. There were a lot of votes for the economy and immigration. It was then that i realized until the majority considers it a major personal issue things won't change.
so i am torn, one one hand i like knowing where people i spend A LOT of time with stand...on the other it's sad and validates a bunch of stereotypes that are depressing.

I hate when people bring up political shit, usually something cringeworthy that they expect everyone to agree with. Then I usually have another reason to dislike them and I have ZERO interest in debating.
17. "It tends to be the dumbest people who always want to talk politics" In response to Reply # 0
at least lately. I have a few people i can chop it up with regularly, even when we disagree, but it's the people who don't know shit, who suddenly think they have it all figured out because of some talking point, or meme they saw, and they can't wait to share this genius thing they just heard.
A couple Bernie people are sounding worse than conservatives. Every little thing is a fucking pro-clinton conspiracy to them. I'm really trying not to hold alot of Bern's supporters against him.
one co-worker who shit got really ugly back in 08 that we nearly came to blows. we kind of have an agreement not to go there because we get along otherwise lol.
I usually have to size people up before even wanting to go there.

Conspiracy theory type so that puts a kibosh on most politics talk because he takes it off into the stratosphere but then gets upset when nobody wants to keep talking about it after that.
For the most part, it seems like the people who really want to talk politics just want to preach their opinion and get mad when you don't agree so most office political talk has been muted. Not that people don't care about politics, they just don't care about the opinions of the loudest voices.

But politics (especially local) was part of the job.
At the current job (medical device company), I only talk politics when someone else initiates the convo. Like my boss occasionally likes to talk about it, and we'll chop it up. But his politics are similar to mine. In the past, when someone who disagrees with my politics initiates the convo (about six-seven years ago a contractor started complaining about Obamacare out of nowhere), I just nodded and didn't argue.

27. "yes, working on a military base has a lot of conservatives" In response to Reply # 0
most often the liberals have a dont care attitude its the conservatives that get upset over the smallest political thing in the media.
conservatives are funny to me i like hearing their viewpoints/rational
one conservative said to me once out of the blue: "see, thats the difference between us conservatives and you liberals. whenever liberals dont like something they wanna pass legislation to prevent other people from doing it. conservatives dont do that. we dont care what other people do"
so i said: like how conservatives try and pass legislation to prevent abortion right?
he paused thought about it looked at me and said: "SEE! thats why i dont talk politics at work!"
