You can avoid the riff raff by staging the transaction in a monitored and secure place.
There are the folks who will gank you no matter who is looking, and then there are the folks who will gank you only if they think they can get away with it. You can easily get rid of that second group by doing it in a safe place.

period. at all. you don't let strangers know where you live and you don't go to anyone's house to be ambushed or at their mercy. Anytime I have bought or sold anything from Craigslist, we always met in a public place. Where cameras and lots of ppl are located. I state this clearly when I exchange emails. "For both of our safety, we can meet at a *public place*"
