"....At his trial, which began last week, prosecutors Patrick Mays and Timothy Hagan established the victim had gone to Looney’s, played beer pong, drank beer and met Poindexter, who bought him a kamikaze shot and a Long Island Iced Tea.
Mays and Hagan showed jurors video footage from three Looney’s surveillance cameras, which depicted how the victim could barely stand-up while Poindexter walked him out. The victim also testified. (The Washington Post does not identify victims of sexual assaults without their permission.)
“It was obviously uncomfortable for him to testify,” one of the jurors said.
He told them he remembered meeting Poindexter at Looney’s, but had few clear memories after the Long Island Iced Tea. He said he had a flash memory of being in a shower with Poindexter. His first clear memory, he said, was waking up on a sofa in a strange home — with his clothes on the floor, someone else’s shorts around his waist, and Poindexter in the room.
“I asked him where I was, what city I was in,” the victim testified. “He told me we were in Gaithersburg . . . I asked him why I wasn’t wearing my clothes.”
Poindexter told him he’d vomited on his clothes. Poindexter also agreed to drive him home.
The victim said he spoke to a friend, trying to piece together what happened, and decided to go to the police. Montgomery detectives convinced him to call Poindexter while they secretly listened to the call — a recording of which was played in court. Poindexter could be heard initially denying any sex had taken place, before ultimately saying that if anything had happened, the victim shouldn’t worry because he didn’t have AIDS.
Wanting more evidence, detectives asked the victim to wear a wire and meet Poindexter in person. He did so. Poindexter said they had sex, but that it was consensual.
Detectives got search warrants and seized Poindexter’s mobile phone and a hard drive from his computer. They found images indicating there could be dozens of potential victims, according to prosecutors. "
