he was a monk during wwii. while imprisoned in auschwitz, he volunteered to take the place of 10 prisoners condemned to starve to death.

the nazis locked the 10 into a bunker underground and left them there...checking in on them periodically.

after 2 weeks, he was the only one still alive so they gavee him a shot of acid and killed him.
