Someone just hit me. She conveniently didn't have insurance. But, I got a photo of her ID and her license plates and photos of the damage. She crunched up her hood real good. I'm wondering what the chances are that my car has structural damage? Or if I should pursue this...?

Since they are u should know they do have insurance. And if they don't it isn't because they can't afford it, but because they are lazy. They should be held accountable for that.

Because if this person does and lied to you it'd definitely be worth your time and if they don't then cut them a break? After having read G Loves response that's definitely what I'd do.

Unless you can pay for the medical bills if you injure someone or fuck up someone's car. Usually these uninsured drivers are uninsured bc they're high risk and they had multiple serious accidents. Insurance costs $30 a month for a 25+ year old female here. So there's no excuse unless you're a terrible driver and it'll cost you 100s. And if that's the case you really need to be carrying insurance or stay off the road.

BUT be forewarned that if you decide to pursue, and she really has no insurance, it's very likely she has limited assets for you to pursue, and pursuing it would be expensive. Your most likely avenue for pursuing anything should you decide to do so would be through your own insurance policy's uninsured motorists coverage (for bodily injury to you) or physical damage coverage (to your vehicle.)

There'll probably be some increase in your rates, but it's a lot less if you're not at fault than if you were at fault. Definitely less than paying for your damage or medical bills out of pocket (assuming your damage is greater than your deductible).

I even let a guy pay me cash instead of going through our insurances when he hit me
I went so far as to get three estimates including the cost of a rental car for the days that I wouldn't have a car. He paid me for all of it and even threw an extra $100 I gave him a receipt
turned out he worked for an insurance company and it looks poorly on them as employees to have claims
