There are the touristy parts, the seedy touristy parts and the rest is ass.
I was in Brazil recently and it's crazy the contrast between the wealthy areas and the slums. Honestly I have never seen such sharp contrast, not even in Colombia and outside of the super duper rich not even Morocco. Rio was literally like two different countries.

i literally grew up going to TJ every couple months for years. i started going less as an adult when the cartel shit started popping off, 'cause the threat energy was heavy, and I look Black American. During my grandma's funeral my uncles kept everybody from the U.S. side hella close, 'cause the streets was watching. you could feel that shit.
TJ is poor as fuck, and can be violent, but I didn't figure it was that violent. But as a kid and teen their were parts of LA that felt seedier to me.

and Brasil, honestly man it low key why I don't want to visit there. I've heard that before from a couple of friends that went. trust they loved it, but they're also leftist like me and they def felt some type of way to contributing to that climate of have and have-nots

street hollering in many parts of latin america is pretty out of pocket, my favorite is less the hollers--which are spectacular and sometimes span multiple city blocks--but the staring. some of these guys are just reckless, they will stop and stare and then continue staring until the girl is out of sight. be a little discrete, jesus.
