"The shutting down of universities/colleges in Chicago and mapgrant no mo..."
Don't know if anyone posted about this already but gov Rauner of IL has decided to shutdown three colleges/universities in Chicago and the Chicagoland area, un-ironically enough all three cater to African American students and I believe one (CSU) is considered a Black College although not that old/historical and there doors will be closing in March 2016. In addition to the closings, the map grant has been demolished by Rauner and some schools have informed their students as of this early year that they can no longer attend by the grant has not been re-awarded, so if you were looking to finish this semester off for those last credits to graduate, oh well.
So far as I know some schools in addition to the ones being shutdown, are looking to boycott, march, protest on campus and at Springfield on March 1st.
I think okp is a collective of folks in college, or with a child in or on their way or perhaps working at one or many(adjuncts). How do you feel about this? Do you think such actions will spread to other major cities as a way to end education for a majority of Blacks/Non-Blacks of low and mid income levels? Personally I fear a spike in joblessness, crime, violence, poverty and most of all police shootings thanks to the bullshit. Also what's a sincere solution or solutions?

due to finances.
schools kept raising tuition and building these impressive campuses mostly off the strength of student loans.
those loans are gonna stop flowing. and slowly, students are gonna stop going. people are realize that it's not a good idea to borrow lots of money to get a degree that may not make them alot of money.
you get more bang for your buck getting certifications and vocational type training.

to cut educational opportunities for blacks. i think instead that Gov Rauner and his ilk simply don't understand the value of various government services for poor and middle class ppl and they don't care if service cuts have negative impact w/dire, long-term consequences for the poor/middle class. and some of them foolishly believe that by removing the government 'safety net' plenty of the poor/middle class will go out and create their own opportunities or they'll take advantage of similar opportunities offered by the private sector.
i think over all they don't understand and they don't care.

We were told they can cover payroll until June Our school will not publicly discuss the financial issues Because they fear enrollment will drop We've had a steady two years of declining enrollment already
Ppl hope that with the spotlight being on CSU It will create enough protests and make them solve the budget issue quickly
Rush hospital has stopped taking our insurance The state takes over 12 months to pay doctors/hospitals
