I never understood this mentality on IG...yet nobody says anything about Tumblr LMAO

Like nobody look at his IG as if its an art or in the same manner of stand up material.

Not to mention he's not the only person or group of people reposting memes and getting just as many likes. HE and his personality outside of IG is why people keep following him plus he finds great things to repost that aren't showing up on EVERYONE's timeline.

It's such a stupid stance people have on why and how he got super famous via IG. You just sound like when Metallica was getting mad at Napster...and old idiot.

... and those jokes are not yours, and you don't give credit for the jokes you post?

I'm glad you brought up Napster. With Napster, at least the downloader understood whose music they were downloading, because the illegal ripper would include the artist's name in the file, lol. This guy is like Napster if the illegal ripper replaced the artist of every CD he ripped with his own name, and then he proceeded to get record deals as a result.

I know a lot of people who do stand-up/write comedy, and literally everyone hates this dude and every dude like him who made his living on the work of others.

In fact, I'd say it's pretty hard to *not* see why people don't like this practice. You have to willfully look away from something that's very very easy to understand.

i'm of the opinion that what you post might go viral and after that it's kind of out of your hands, it's for public consumption, and to expect that someone drills down from the thousands or millions of people who've shared it to give YOU credit is kind of expecting a lot.

i mean, i GET why comedians hate him cuz they see him as a joke stealer. i respect their opinions, but i just don't feel the same way.

Is anyone gonna chase after your momma and them for posting the latest meme? Of course not. Hell ive seen Chris Rock re-post a few memes here and there.

But at a certain point dude stopped using social media as as social media but for business purposes(signing branding deals for his media accounts etc)...that's when the behavior stops. 90% of his content were recycled memes purposely made to look like they came from him

i mean, that's shitty but it's not like they are monetizing their memes.

i guess i just don't find myself up in arms like others do. if you're not smart enough to monetize your "art" (not sure what else to call it) then people who are will take it and do it - especially when you put it out there for anyone to consume. that's kind of how business/invention works quite often. i mean, Adidas stole the basis of their Yeezy from Nike's Roshe Run, but everyone gotta have that 350 Boost cuz Yeezy jumped over Jumpman, right?

additionally, i do think that Fat Jew adds something to the shit he posts with his captions, and outside of the memes i think the dude is pretty entertaining on his own.

"if you're not smart enough to monetize your "art" (not sure what else to call it) then people who are will take it and do it"

What about the musicians whose albums get illegally downloaded? Or the independent filmmakers whose film goes VOD and hits torrents Day 1? Were they just too stupid to prevent assholes from ripping their shit and uploading it to the internet for free?

Neither that nor this has *anything* to do with intelligence, obviously.

It does, however, have everything to do with the fact that Ostrovsky is a rich Upper West Side Manhattanite hack with good connections, no scruples, and a massive indifference towards the hard work of others, and most of the writers from whom he steals have no money, no connections, and an aversion to joke thievery.

People can like dude all they want, and they can appreciate his form of joke "aggregation" (stealing). Just know what it is and admit you don't care. Like downloading CDs or movies illegally-- don't try to justify it, just say, "yeah, it's easier this way. I know it's shitty and wrong and I don't care enough to not do it."

He's making money because of what he likes to post. He doesnt get paid FROM a post of stolen pictures. HUGE fucking difference.

Its no different than a stylist who gets paid because they like brands and know how to put outfits together. Are they giving a percentage off the clothes they use with their clients or even feature on their website or IG...NOPE.

Its no different than anyone on Tumblr like JJJJound who got famous as a creative director who was posting what he likes and creating the image of his aesthetic on Tumblr as he does on IG, which led him to big jobs.

What Fat Jewish is doing is not the same as what other IG users who get paid for by brands for specifically shooting and posting a picture wearing their product.

Please learn the difference before you try to make this argument because when you do you will have NO argument.

By your logic everyone posting and reposting memes should be paying someone something.

Comedians write original jokes. Some of them are said aloud in clubs. Some are posted onlines. If you knowing steal those jokes, you are a shithead.

Not every comic is paid for sets. Many comics start by doing sets for free, just to get their material out there, to get noticed by those who hire joke writers. This is *exactly* the same as comics who tweet jokes for the exact same reason.

The DMCA agrees, Twitter agrees, sensible people agree: stealing is stealing. http://www.theverge.com/2015/7/25/9039127/twitter-deletes-stolen-joke-dmca-takedown

He's stealing tweets. He's stealing cartoons. He's stealing photos. He's stealing pretty much everything.

It's not like he's copy/pasting Bad News Brians or Condescending Wonkas. He's copy/pasting jokes-- and he's knowingly trimming out of the frame the joke's creator.

because he WAS getting paid to promote product. Only reason he was getting paid to promote product was directly because of the traffic he generated from the stolen content.

I also find this argument disturbing from you since you're someone who makes money in the creative arts; if I make a tastemaker blog I get free reign to steal articles/stories of my own if they match what I am doing? Albums? Pitchfork is a bigger brand then 99% of the bands they cover...people go there for the snark, good writing, and the idea that they set a certain taste. Would it be cool if they suddenly posted full album links with their reviews since they aren't getting 'paid' of them

And you still haven't answered the fact he was purposely editing out watermarks from the memes he stole.
