The minute I heard Metro and Southside start turning up on Waka and Wooh da Kid mixtapes I knew they were going to go places. I'm a little impressed with the ways they've been able to horn in on Mike Will's action with regards to radio hits but I knew right away they were going to become titans of the trap sound.

I know he referenced it and all, but that's pretty lame. Maybe this is just his idea of using it for inspiration like Drake did with DRAM's "Cha Cha" or something... eh Either way, I did like the track lol

and that was never released. just performed for SNL and the adidas thing. and it's dope.

i really haven't seen anything to be worried about as far as his 7th album. the adidas stuff seems to have been his main priority over the last 2 years so the album proper hasn't even really been worked on that much.
most of his musical work been getting Travis off the ground and guiding Big Sean's Dark Sky Paradise album which turned out pretty good. other than that he chilling, making babies and shit.

Kanye is like Prince post-SOTT. Can still make great songs, maybe even a great album, still sell out/headline any festival, but as far as being THAT nigga in hip-hop/pop? It's a wrap. And that's okay.

I feel like there were people who loved Kanye for changing the lyrical direction of hip-hop (self-conscious, beating back gangsta rap, introspective lyrics, working with Common, Mos and other left of center rappers, etc.) and those people who were in love with his production. Very generally speaking of course and of course most fans loved both, just saying people lean a certain way into either group.
I think the lyrical fans are done with dude. And have been done with dude for a minute.
Folks in the production group have been the hold outs but I don't see how this latest stuff keeps them going.

I used to be a fan of his production, and lyrically, I like his sense of humor. But ultimately, the reason I check for his music is his knowledge of how to create art... his vision. He has the ear and connection to the music to know which producers and artists to bring in, and how to tweak it all to make it his own and make it dope. I'm not fond of comparing him to MJ, but I will say that that's exactly what MJ did, musically. He had a general idea of where he wanted to go and what he wanted to do and brought it others to make it the best it could be. It's kind of a privileged way to make music... a certain financial level usually has to be reached before an artist can operate that way, so I have mixed feelings on it as a practice, but it's why I kinda trust that Kanye will come out with something at LEAST artistially, thoughtful even if I don't find it dope.
