"Shooting in progress at Colorado Planned Parenthood. "
Fri Nov-27-15 06:50 PM by stravinskian

We have governors all around the country trying to bar Syrian refugees. Leading presidential candidates talking about keeping databases of Muslim citizens.

Suppose the same logic will extend to Christian conservatives?

Let's hold off on politicizing this until we know for sure.

This is the same city where it appeared that someone tried to blow up an NAACP office but later determined the guy was trying to blow up his tax preparer's office in the same building.

Not saying it wasn't political just urging restraint until the facts are in.

i still blame hip-hop.

It was my second thought after wondering if any of my friends might be there or nearby.

But I don't want to feel like an agenda pushing asshole if it turns out he just shot up the place because his wife who split on him worked there or something. Obviously horrible either way but the fact it's at a Planned Parenthood doesn't de facto make it a political attack, even if it seems obvious on its face that it would be.

One of my doctors is in an adjacent building so this one hits a little close to home.

i still blame hip-hop.

Think I'm willing to risk the assumption this time around. If I'm 100% wrong, I'm more than willing to cop to that. this is the only place i've commented on this though. I almost never post anything political on facebook, etc.. It's a waste of time.

Nah....terrorism is terrorism......Calling it as it is doesn't make one an agenda pushing asshole....It's common sense more than anything else....I get where u r coming from...Shit has become so polarizing....

But there are reports that dude was gunning for employees at that Planned Parenthood facility....Whether he did it because he was out of his mind, mad at the world or a religious right wing nut job doesn't matter....

Dude terrorized people.....

I won't even take the politicizing bait because it's too easy to discuss and this is a tragic post.

It's sad that people go this far for their agendas. What was this person hoping to accomplish? Why did they think killing people would further their objective?

I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place as apparently I have to account for random police officers deading me for dumb shit or random civilians going vigilante because BS reason. Two of these incidents have happened this year and it's eye opening dealing with it now.

>back to the wild wild west. Lol

... everywhere and watch what happens. My larger point with this specific reference is that concealed carrying guns in any capacity to thwart apparent terrorist actions is a bad thing. It's especially bad if this continues and people push towards a wild west scenario as you put it.

There needs to be a solution that addresses this problem because there's no way in fuck I should have to deal with two shootings in less than six months apart. I grew up in the hood and never seen no reckless stuff like this. People did dirt but kept it to confined areas away from children and the elderly. These dudes don't care and feel driven by something else. It's really sad for the victims.

We don't know planned parenthood was his target, gotta hear both sides, don't take things out of context, other courtesys minorities can only dream about, etc.

EDIT:

Also shame on you for using tragedy to make a political point. How crass and un-American. Now is not the time to pause and reflect on what we could do to prevent more tragedies like this.

Just IMO though.

And times like this I feel a lot of conflict personally.

Like "oh they didn't shoot him? Must be white"

I have those same thoughts but I was listening to the police frequency and heard them exchange fire with him.

And i heard whoever was in command warn everyone on the the scene that he might be ready to surrender and basically warn everyone not to be quick on the trigger. Do they shoot him with his hands up if he's black? Maybe, I don't know, but I was listening and these were clearly highly trained officers who were 100% ready to kill if necessary but not eager to kill by any means.

I don't know. It just saddens me how quick people are to pick teams and fight for that team when this happens. A college campus cop was killed trying to respond. At least two people who were at the clinic are dead and they were probably bleeding out for hours while police tried to stabilize the situation and had at least 1 killed and 4 others shot in the process.

The whole thing is awful and I'm not at all eager to use it to serve my political agenda.

Edit: also thank you for the compliment

i still blame hip-hop.

I think this is the way it should be, but it isn't in a lot of instances where there are blacks/other minorities involved IMO. On the one hand this resolution might be the model I desire for all police confrontations but it only makes me more angry about the ones that don't go this way for minorities and how minority voices who share my concerns get trivialised or dismissed by the media or law makers.

>Edit: also thank you for the compliment

I think you make an honest attempt to be balanced, that's important in this polarised day and age.

Just IMO though.

Forget this tragic and horrible event thats unfolding/still not understood - I still contend that Colorado Springs is fully of nut jobs. Christian dominionism will be back in the news soon.

It's like THE SOUTH - you may be *one of the good ones* but you allow crazy bigots to thrive.

Oh yeah, THE SOUTH IS FULL OF NUTJOBS!

Actually - it's America thats FULL OF NUTJOBS!

The area has higher suicide rates and higher than avg mass shootings. Colorado Springs has the highest suicide rate in the country after Las Vegas. At the extremes, women kill themselves, men do things like shoot up movie theatres.

Among other things they're reiterating how many lives were potentially saved by the police action in isolating the suspect.

In coming days i think we are going to find out there were initially a LOT more people in that Planned Parenthood than we really think and dozens of lives were saved by the action of police, ATF and FBI.

The mayor is also being pretty frank about the incident. He's not tip toeing around the point that it looks like that nutjob was indeed targeting the workers at Planned Parenthood. It's going to be interesting to see how all the Presidential candidates on both sides responds to this....

Bern will condemn the right wing rhetoric that drove him

Hill will condemn the right wing rhetoric that drove him, but give props to the heroics of law enforcement

Most repub candidates will largely ignore the Planned Parenthood part of the equation, and every time asked about that part of it, pivot to something about mental health, and largely focus on the heroics and importance of the law enforcement, and another reason why we should never say anything bad about cops.

Trump will flat out blame blaclkivesmatter for the officers who were shot

Carson will cite Colorado altitudes and their effects on the brain.

it's pretty much the same as when those 2 yt dudes in Bos (?) beat up some homeless mexican (?) man after his initial remarks

so hairdo gets upset that a blm protestor interrupted his rally

has him removed

and is quoted as saying something to likes of 'they should get roughed up' etc...

that wasn't even a week ago

I think it was last saturday, or sunday, and the media ran the story into the ground monday

that night 5 BLM protestors shot at the highest profile current BLM campaign outside Minn 4th Precint

and nobody is going to ask him about it?

the goal will be to run with any narrative that absolves them of their rhetoric having any hand in PP getting shot up. Likely will be something about mental health, or marijuana, or just change the subject completely to ISIS, black on black crime, or, pick one.

Same goes for BLM protesters being shot. Someone will ask Trump about those things, and he'll give his usual non-answer insult, and point out how race baiting, politically correct liberal losers are the real ones destroying the our once great nation.

And rise in the polls.

Sometimes its OK to jump to conclusions....He said "No more baby parts" to police....

Official says gunman made 'no more baby parts' comment
Updated November 28, 2015 9:14 PM
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The man who police say staged a deadly shooting attack on a Planned Parenthood clinic that offers abortion services said "no more baby parts" after his arrest, a law enforcement official said Saturday.

The official could not elaborate about the comment by the 57-year-old suspect, Robert Lewis Dear. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to speak publicly about the ongoing investigation.

Planned Parenthood said late Saturday that witnesses said the gunman was motivated by his opposition to abortion.

Police, however, have not disclosed a motive for Friday's attack during which they say Dear stormed the Colorado Springs clinic, killing three people, including a police officer, before he surrendered to authorities.

The attack thrust the clinic to the center of the ongoing debate over Planned Parenthood, which was re-ignited in July when anti-abortion activists released undercover video they said showed the organization's personnel negotiating the sale of fetal organs.

Planned Parenthood has denied seeking any payments beyond legally permitted reimbursement costs for donating the organs to researchers. Still, the National Abortion Federation says it has since seen a rise in threats at clinics nationwide.

The anti-abortion activists, part of a group called the Center for Medical Progress, denounced the "barbaric killing spree in Colorado Springs by a violent madman" and offered prayers for the dead and wounded and for their families.

The facility provides women's health services and has long been the site of regular anti-abortion protests. A Roman Catholic priest who has held weekly Mass in front of the clinic for 20 years said Dear wasn't part of his group.

"I don't know him from Adam," said Rev. Bill Carmody. "I don't recognize him at all."

@Newsday

Dear, who was in custody and is expected to make his first court appearance Monday, was described by neighbors as reclusive. They said he stashed food in the woods, avoided eye contact and warned neighbors about government spying.

At a vigil Saturday at All Souls Unitarian Church, Rev. Nori Rost called the gunman a "domestic terrorist." In the back of the room, someone held a sign that said: "Women's bodies are not battlefields. Neither is our town."

Vicki Cowart, the regional head of Planned Parenthood, drew a standing ovation when she walked to the pulpit. She promised to quickly reopen the clinic. "We will adapt. We will square our shoulders and we will go on," she said.

After her remarks, a woman in the audience stood up, objected to the vigil becoming a "political statement" and left.

Cowart said the gunman "broke in" to the clinic Friday but didn't get past a locked door leading to the main part of the facility. She said there was no armed security when the shooting began. He later surrendered to police after an hours-long standoff.

In the parking lot of the two-story building, one man said the gunman shot at him as he pulled his car out, blasting two holes in his windshield. Inside, one worker ducked under a table and called her brother to tell him to take care of her kids if she was killed.

At one point, an officer whispered reports into his radio as he crept through the building. Others relayed information from surveillance cameras and victims in hiding. "We've got a report of a victim texting from just east of the lobby," someone said.

In the end, a six-year veteran University of Colorado police officer was killed. Two civilians also died, though their identities weren't immediately released. Five other officers and four people were hospitalized.

Cowart said all 15 clinic employees survived and worked hard to make sure everyone else got into safe spaces and stayed quiet.

Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper said the city is mourning and praised the bravery of first responders. He said the nation is wrestling with the causes of violence but that it's too early to discuss that while the city is reeling.

"This is the kind of thing that hits the entire community in the gut," he said.

Cowart said the organization would learn from the attack. When asked if the clinic should have more security, she said the clinic's clients shouldn't have to walk through metal detectors.

The attack marked the latest mass shooting to stun the nation, and drew the now-familiar questions about a gunman's motives and whether anyone, from government to relatives, could have done anything to prevent an attack.

Those who knew the 6-foot-4-inch, 250-pound Dear said he seemed to have few religious or political leanings.

Neighbors who lived beside Dear's former South Carolina home say he hid food in the woods as if he was a survivalist and said he lived off selling prints of his uncle's paintings of Southern plantations and the Masters golf tournament.

John Hood said Saturday that when he moved to Walterboro, Dear was living in a doublewide mobile home next door. Hood said Dear seemed to be a loner and very strange but not dangerous.

He pointed to a wooden fence separating their land and said he put it up because Dear liked to skinny dip.

Hood said that Dear rarely talked to them, and when he did, he tended to offer unsolicited advice such as recommending that Hood put a metal roof on his house so the U.S. government couldn't spy on him.

"He was really strange and out there, but I never thought he would do any harm," he said.

Dear also lived part of the time in a cabin with no electricity or running water in Black Mountain, North Carolina. He kept mostly to himself, his neighbors said. When he did talk, it was a rambling combination of a number of topics that didn't make sense.

He tended to avoid eye contact, said James Russell, who lived a few hundred feet down the mountain from Dear's cabin.

"If you talked to him, nothing with him was very cognitive," Russell said.

Other neighbors knew Dear, too, but they didn't want to give their names because they said they were scared of him.

Russell and others said the only companion they saw with him was a mangy dog that looked to be in such bad shape they called animal control because they worried he was beating it.

In the small town of Hartsel, Colorado, about 60 miles west of Colorado Springs, about a dozen police vehicles and fire trucks were parked outside a small white trailer belonging to Dear located on a sprawling swath of land.

Property records indicate Dear purchased the land about a year ago.

Another law enforcement official said authorities searched the trailer Saturday but found no explosives. The official, who has direct knowledge of the case, said authorities also talked with a woman who was living in the trailer. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to speak publicly about the ongoing investigation.

Zigmond Post, who lives near the RV where Dear lived, said he didn't have many interactions with Dear but he said the suspect once gave him a pamphlet opposing President Barack Obama.

"He didn't talk about them or anything. He just said 'Look them over when you get a chance,'" Post said.

Jamie Heffelman, owner of the Highline Cafe in Hartsel, said residents would occasionally see Dear at the post office to get his mail but he never said much. "Nobody really knows him. He stays to himself," she said.

to feed the crazies, to extract their money, they quite seriously have blood on their hands.

Carly Fiorina, Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson, the people who made those bullshit videos and organized those bullshit protests, I want each one of them to admit that they contributed to this. But I know they won't. They really are immoral people.

It's a tragedy when religious fanatics murder innocent people at a concert or a restaurant in Paris, and it's just as much a tragedy when religious fanatics murder innocent people seeking medical treatment in Colorado.

But the murderous religious fanatic in the latter case was nurtured by our own culture, our own leaders.

As Christians incite this and violence against gays in places like Uganda. They then have the temerity to cry about the war on Christmas or how they are being persecuted for their beliefs. It's ugly and absolutely not what the faith should stand for.

Just IMO though.

because they're the ones who know 100% that Planned Parenthood isn't maliciously "harvesting baby parts" for profit, but they think the ends justify the means, so they're more than willing to fight on that lie, and feed it to the people who actually believe it. People who include psycho wingnuts like this guy who either think they're doing gods work, or some kind of vigilante justice for babies.

Of course, they'll all just go on claiming that since they're not telling folks to incite violence, that they have zero culpability in shit like this happening, but what the fuck do you expect telling a bunch of angry people (many who are unstable with guns) about the taxpayer funded baby killing factory down the street?

STILL talking about "dismembering" and "selling" human body parts. Then saying that no pro lifers have advocated violence. So it's just a crazy guy acting on his own.

Then he gets into the "malignant cancer" of Islamic Jihadism, and the idea that we need to fight the people feeding terrorism with all the military force we can.

He didn't seem to see the irony, and the host didn't care to call him on it.

mynoriti's right

you can't even give these idiots a platform anymore

an open mic for huckabee is just an opportunity for him to say 'killing babies', 'millions of babies', etc...

couldn't be too hard to put together a panel with a PP rep and any one of these idiots to actually present the facts.

Talking Points Memo

Cruz: Planned Parenthood Shooter May Be 'Transgendered Leftist Activist'

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Sunday dismissed the idea that anti-abortion rhetoric influenced the shooter who opened fire in a Colorado Planned Parenthood clinic on Friday, referencing reports that the suspected shooter is a "transgendered leftist activist."

During a press conference in Iowa, Cruz slammed "vicious rhetoric on the left blaming those who are pro-life" for the shooting, the Texas Tribune reported.

"The media promptly wants to blame him on the pro-life movement when at this point there’s very little evidence to indicate that," Cruz said, according to the Texas Tribune.

A reporter told Cruz that reports indicate that the suspected shooter, Robert Lewis Dear, mentioned "baby parts" to law enforcement after he was arrested.

"It’s also been reported that he was registered as an independent and a woman and a transgendered leftist activist," Cruz hit back, referencing a voter registration form that allegedly lists Dear as a woman. "If that’s what he is, I don’t think it’s fair to blame on the rhetoric on the left. This is a murderer."

When asked by the New York Times which reports Cruz was referring to when he said Dear was registered as a woman, spokeswoman Catherine Frazier pointed to a post on The Right Scoop.

A spokesperson told Buzzfeed News that Cruz referenced reports about the suspect's gender in order "to make the point that we don’t know all the details."

Cruz was also asked on Sunday if the shooting was an act of domestic terrorism. He called it a murder, according to the Texas Tribune.

"It was a multiple murder of what appears to be a deranged individual. And it was horrific, it was evil, and we’ll find out more out about the facts, but I don’t think we should jump to conclusions," he said.

Dear was arrested and accused of opening fire in the Planned Parenthood clinic on Friday, killing three and injuring nine. He will appear in court for the first time on Monday.

GOAT of his era......long live Prince.....God is alive....

at least, at the very least, at least some of these 'media' figures are calling BS on some of this

at the very least.

let's run down the propaganda checklist:

false propaganda about mexicans = homeless latinos assaulted
false propaganda about BLM targeting PDs and the 'they deserve to be roughed up' quote = BLM shooting(s)
false propaganda about radical islam and syrian refugees = mosques burned and us muslims assaulted
false propaganda about PP = mass shooting at PP

what they are doing, perpetuating, and its continuation is very dangerous

and they should be stopped.

as the media continues to provide a platform for this BS, they also need to held accountable

do better.

I posted Cruz's link to the death to the gays pastor, reply 60

countdown to an attack on the LGBT community by some right wing republican = middle aged YT male

what's worse

this behavior

or the corresponding numbers surge?

Pretty disgusted by the rhetoric coming from Ted Cruz and Fiorina and the like, but it's to be expected.

Colorado's rules for recall elections are pretty lax. I'm sure she'll be up for recall very soon, and I'll be very interested in that vote, even though I don't live in the district.

Violence – Where it starts.
The freedoms we enjoy in the United States include those that were made up to fit the audience and unsubstantiated numerical support, specifically the right to an abortion. When a violent act happens at a Planned Parenthood (pph) facility (most recent in Colorado Springs) the left goes on “auto-pilot” blaming everyone insight when they should be looking in a mirror. Free Speech has brought to light the insidious selling of baby body parts (pph has no shame). These facts and overall mission of the abortion industry would easily send anyone over the hill who wasn’t rational.
The “war on women” is what pph began with Margaret Sanger and it has turned into a war on the family, especially children. It has changed children from a blessing to a commodity making it very hard to consider ourselves to be a civilized respectful rational society.
Violence is never the answer but we must start pointing out who is the real culprit. The true instigator of this violence and all violence at any pph facility, is pph themselves. Violence begets violence. So pph, YOU STOP THE VIOLENCE INSIDE YOUR WALLS. My question is, if abortions were free at pph, how long would they stay in business? Pro-Life organizations offer their caring services saving women and children for free every day and they clean up the mess that pph leaves behind.
Pray Daily for the women who abort, their children, and the providers.
