"Big respect to the Eagles of Death Metal."
Wed Nov-25-15 09:10 PM by denny

Vice released a heart-felt interview with them and I really appreciated what they had to say:

https://www.vice.com/en_ca/read/eagles-of-death-metal-discuss-paris-terror-attacks

They're a kick-ass rocknroll band. If you buy they're cover of Duran Duran's 'Save a Prayer' the proceeds go to victims of Paris.\

My SO pointed out that he couldn't look at anyone or anything except for Josh for most of the interview. Like Josh was his source of safety. It's obvious that they're really close. Apparently they meet in their early teens when Josh had saved him from getting beat up at school or something like that. Then in 2005 Jessie had an amphetamine addiction for which Josh forcibly drove him to rehab and paid for him to get better. You can tell there's alotta love there.

And he actually encountered one of the killers.....was saved by the weapons nose hitting a door frame as he attempted to point it at him. That's just fucking crazy. Like they said.....there are gonna be so many untold stories from that event. Some heroic....but all horrifying. It seems like the band has consciously decided to use the acts of heroism as a way of countering the darkness. Perhaps that's just a natural way that we all deal with these things....but it's beautiful nonetheless.

that would be cool if they were the first band to play the venue when it opens again.

You really get the sense of brotherhood that josh and jessie have and it's really sweet. My SO pointed out how jessie is unable to look up at anything except for josh's face. It's like josh is the only thing in the room that makes him feel safe.

One aspect of the whole thing that i think people don't realize.....they're mostly playing for kids. These guys in the band are in their 40's. The age difference between themselves and the audience has to contribute to the awfulness of the experience. I grew up with a dude who's a rock star now and has played with Queens of the Stone Age on tour. Last time I talked to him was a couple years ago and i remember him saying 'you grow up imagining playing on stage and everything being so cool....but the reality of it is that you're kind of like a babysitter in a way. You're performing for people who are young enough to be your children for the most part.' Trying to put myself in their shoes....you can see why they'd say 'I wish I could talk to the victim's parents'. There must be a horrible sense of responsibility in terms of the age of the audience members who the band constantly refer to as 'the kids'.

Another part of it that must be so disturbing is the question as to whether they were targeted because of the nature of their act/image. It's probably safe to assume that the France v Germany soccer match was the main target and the reason that date was selected. But it's also not a stretch to say that the killers probably googled their act and decided to hit the Bataclan because the band celebrates sex drugs and rocknroll. Taken directly from the ISIS statement: "The targets included the Bataclan theatre for exhibitions, where hundreds of pagans gathered for a concert of prostitution and vice". A simple google search of EODT would have revealed the singer was dating a porn star and the nature of their music/image. Do the killers target the Bataclan if an act like Adele was performing? Maybe not....Makes one wonder if this particular band will be at greater risk going forward just becuase of their connection to this horrible event. ie copycat perpetrators. Makes me feel like it's important for the rocknroll world to support them which seems to be happening and I'm glad for that.

http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2016/02/eagles_of_death_17.html

"Eagles of Death Metal are returning to Paris tonight (2/16) to "complete" their show at Le Bataclan that was a site of the Paris terror attacks. They'll be playing at the Olympic Theatre and surviving attendees of the Bataclan show will be in attendance. EODM frontman Jesse Hughes has addressed the importance of the concert in various interviews on French TV.:

"I don't want to let anybody down," Mr. Hughes said on Monday on the French television channel i-Télé. "For me, I can't let the bad guys win."

Breaking into tears during a separate interview, for the channel Canal+, he said: "Paris isn't just a show. It is not a rock show; it is a lot bigger than that. It has a much bigger purpose than just entertaining this time around." (via the New York Times)

Hughes, who has always had a right-wing political bent and supports Donald Trump, has also been has also touched on gun control in these interviews (he's against it), feeling that if some people in the audience had guns the Bataclan attack would have gone differently:

"Did your French gun control stop a single fucking person from dying at the Bataclan? And if anyone can answer yes, I'd like to hear it, because I don't think so. I think the only thing that stopped it was some of the bravest men that I've ever seen in my life charging head-first into the face of death with their firearms.

"I know people will disagree with me, but it just seems like God made men and women, and that night guns made them equal," he said. "And I hate it that it's that way. I think the only way that my mind has been changed is that maybe that until nobody has guns everybody has to have them. (via The Guardian)"
