He almost had a full decade run (14 shots was the beginning of the slide) at the top of the MC pyramid. In addition to the music I don't think he gets the props for being the ONLY golden age rapper who was able to transition into the 'post-rakim' era and was still at the top of the pile when dudes like Nas and Biggie were entering the scene.

It's frustrating to see how wack he's become now but dude was the only one left standing for many major shifts in hip-hop from the OG's. Lots of modern rappers who fade quick and spoil before their time need to look and study his career.

I was a big LL fan and he was my favorite rapper for a good 4 year run(85-89)

We used to have the boom box on the basketball court and played that loud af. All of sudden cats who couldn't jump high enough to touch the rim could finally touch the rim when it came on. Being facetious of course, but that was the first adrenaline rap song i remember hearing and i was hooked.
