"ever throw a birthday party and have nobody show?"

saw that shit happen yesterday at work. Im working for my brothers and sisters in law. They opened a family entertainment type place. Well a girl had a birthday party and only 1 kid showed up. That kid showed up 15 minutes before the party ended. Poor girl was crying her eyes out. I kept thinking man people are fucking cruel. But then I found out from my sis in law who is the hostess for the parties that the bday girl and her mom didnt show up until 30 minutes AFTER the start time of their party. They only get 2 hours in the party room and she showed up 30 minutes late. Then they booked that shit last minute as hell. They booked the party on Wednesday. So I'm guessing mom did a piss poor job planning but still shit was heart breaking to see.

...the pool party she invited me to in 5th grade. We parted ways in high school.

I've never been big on birthdays, but I can get how that could scar somebody.

10 yr old bday party. we invited school folks mostly. nobody showed until we were getting ready to leave. one fam showed up as we were leaving, but that don't count.

I felt bad for my child, but she had fun just skating and eating pizza. didn't seem to bothered by it. I won't bring it up though.

I was probably 10 years old. Only person to show up was my little Korean friend. My Mom made a cake and she watched me blow out the candles. I remember constantly checking the door and the phone. But from that point on I have NEVER had a party. I can't risk that kind of heartbreak again.

It was awful.

Like I would never throw a party without getting "definites" from some key constituents. Once I get a critical mass of those folks, then I announce a party.

My boys family of first cousins is thick enough that if family is showing up, then the party is good.

To be honest, it's part of the reason I tend to prefer "gatherings" for my birthday lol. I invite those key folks who will always come through and keep it at that.

I did throw a semi-big party one time a couple of years back and I invited a gang of folks. Friends, co-workers, acquaintances. And you know what, like 30 people showed up. I felt like Jim Carrey in The Mask (they like me, they really like me!)

5th or 6th grade, I think. He was pretty hard to get along with, but he was someone I would hoop with at recess and play after school sports with. And actually his brother was also in our class due to being held back a grade, so it was the three of us. I don't remember whether he was busted up about it, but I think we played video games for a while and had a fine time.

edit - in 2015, it's hard to imagine not having some idea of a guest list when planning the party...with communication so easily accessible these days, it should be easy to get yesses, nos, and maybes. That really stinks about the girl at your workplace...gotta feel for her since it wasn't her fault at all.

damn I just remembered the other horrible thing about it all. We had to kick them out of the party room in the middle of the cake cutting because they were running over their time and we had to prep the room for another party. So they get 2 hours in this party room. We leave 1.5 hours between bookings to account for 30 minutes of overage time. People dont just get up and leave right away. No matter how many times you tell them. 30 minutes for clean up time. Then another 30 so the next party can come in and set up. This girl and her mom were 20 minutes late. Like she should have been there at 130pm to set up for her 2pm party. Nope she was there at 220pm. So they really werent ready until close to 3pm. Everything got pushed back. We let them know they could have an extra half hour but we needed them out by 4:30pm. At 4 our hostess was letting them know they should be cutting the cake soon because of our tight timeline now. They didnt listen because a couple of people showed up super late. Come 430 our hostess was like you gotta vacate the room I cant wait any longer. They had just sung happy birthday Like we helped yall as much as we could but you did not come on time and did not listen to us about the time. Now you arent about to fuck up someone else's party sorry. They moved the party out and Im sure the little girl will need counseling for the rest of her life because of that birthday.

The mom put the party together and was going to send out invites to the family and friends of the family and the kid said he didn't want her too, that he just wanted to invite his friends. And in doing so caught an L.

I mean, the party was during an Eagles game. (Before we knew that this season was an abortion lol)

Since the super bowl, I don't think I've felt confident (of the we're definitely going to win!) about any Eagles team. They've all been suspect in their own way.

this past year i did a trip for my birthday and I invited a gang of ppl who all said they wanted to go, and toward the end only 1 person said yes, then two of my other friends decided at the last minute. but i was so shook it would just be me on that trip and i was mentally prepared for that but i still didn't want it to happen.

now i feel bad because my friend is on her birthday trip by herself. maybe. she never told me if she was still going or not.

yt cat i worked with
young dude, shit we were both in our mid 20's
he was head of the IT department, govt job, pulling a good 170K
i was real cool with the whole department, used to help them pull wire, terminate cables, network printers, etc

anyway, dude put together a birthday/ get together for all his employees

from what i could tell they was like one big happy family

nope.

i pull up to the house, no one was there except his parents, his mamas bf and another coworker

big ass table and double door frige full of untouched food and liquor

i was legit shocked

i stayed for an hour and bounced

a few months later the ERO complaints started rolling in and im like WEEBAY.gif

i threw the party at my uncle's house in the city...had my friends dj, lights, food, even made hand drawn fliers. i thought ppl was gonna go cuz it's in the city. turned out i wasn't that popular, but i blamed it on the heavy rain + people wasn't really driving like that. i realized i was better working at parties than throwing them...

That lil file probably won't have a party until she is a teen, if that. No child should have to go through that type of humiliation. I agree that the mother did a piss poor job planning the party and added insult to injury for showing up late.

but we were never big on birthday parties...

I think it's because I had 50 cousins growing up.

Every family gathering was a big ass party

Thank god I've never had this happen
But I also always had big parties where I would invite everyone in my class -I never wanted anyone to feel left out.

I'd even invite people I didn't like cause I'm soft like that :/

Hit a club, bar, lounge up on your Birthday, even if no one else you know shows up you're still surrounded by other people you can mingle with.

I always assume if you're having a Birthday Party where everyone is coming just for you, you need to be really popular or know for a fact most of the people are coming.

I'd be mad as fuck if I got a DJ and no one else showed up lol. Wouldn't let him leave though. You playin sad songs all night.
