"do you resent violent, male authority figures?"

if not, why not?

is there a reason to not resent
violent male authority figures
that insist Black people,
both children and adults, should
obey their orders, immediately,
or risk physical violence or death?

do you think Black ppl should obey
all orders from the cops?

and if the answer is yes, how does that make you feel?

talk about it.

shit when I practiced law. Fuck prosecutors, and most judges too. I think the entire law enforcement system should be dismantled and replaced with something community controlled. The fact that some people (especially Black folks) continue to talk about reform makes me sick, and speaks to how stupid most Americans are.

i resent violent, male authority figures.

maybe i was like that from birth.
maybe i just resent my violently abusive father.

but how we got here is irrelevant.
every time i see a violent, male authority figure put their hands
on Black ppl, it fills me with rage.

it reminds me of how i wanted to
attack my father (but never did).

But this isn't about my father.
It's more about how the police treat Black ppl like children.

Sit, on this curb. Don't even THINK about moving.

YOU HEAR ME?!

I said SIT, on that curb.

You stay.

Did I catch you smoking weed?
You are grounded, mister.
You will not socialize with anybody.
Go to this room, and don't come out.

You are bad.

Shame on you.

White ppl don't get arrested for drugs as often (though, it is more than ppl think, and those numbers are growing. But i digressed.)

Anyway, cops don't monitor white ppl
as often because white ppl are adults.

They don't have to be watched over.
Black ppl would tear their own communities apart if the violent, male authority figures left.

Black ppl are bad.
They need to learn discipline.
hit them if you have too.
They're like children.

I resent that.
Because, who the fuck are you?

why should i obey anyone, let alone ypu.

That is how i feel about cops.

Your turn.

yup, I'm right.

to answer your question, though, not really.

I grew up with an iron hand stepfather. I got my share of fairly violent ass whoopins as did my sisters and he abused my mother.

However, without his guidance with regards to Black issues, I wouldn't be who I am today.

Time heals all wounds.

There was a point in time where I had resentment towards him, but decades later I harbor no ill will; we have a pretty good relationship nowadays.

My father was an alcoholic and prone to violence. I've written about it here already and won't do it again, but even with him I learned to forgive and leave it behind.

Should Black ppl have to obey them immediately?

How does it make you feel when they respond with violence when we don't?

Cuz female cops & Hispanic/black cops are neck & neck as far as assholes go.

To answer your question I hate ALL cops. I don't believe that there's a "good one" cuz
they're still working to back & honor a corrupt system - so in essence, how good can they really be?

Last week I was at the shop & my boy asked me if I had a set of cables for his friend, I looked at his boy & the nigga had the shield on. I told him no wit the quickness. My pettiness knows no bounds when it comes to them.

gave me chills bc they talked to him in the same way my parents talked to me during beatings. And yeah - I am disgusted when I hear or see authority behaving I ways that evoke those memories. As a general matter I struggle with authority when I feel it's misused and I tend to expect it to be misused.

>if not, why not?

I don't resent. I feel like i'm weak if i'm feeling resentment because that means that I let a situation get to a point where I didn't have any input on the outcome either real or imagined. Whenever i'm in a contentious situation, I try to at least speak my piece, convey my stance, change the situation to my liking. At the very least, I can say I tried. That nullifies the feeling of resentment for me...for ME.

>is there a reason to not resent
>violent male authority figures
>that insist Black people,
>both children and adults, should
>obey their orders, immediately,
>or risk physical violence or death?

I think that's a personal thing honestly. For some yes, there is a reason, for others they may choose a different way to process the injustice. Everyone is empowered to not feel resentment IMO.

>do you think Black ppl should obey
>all orders from the cops?

Yes, I think all people should obey orders from the cops if it's a difference between life & death. This answer should not be taken as the end all be all though, because the reasoning behind it goes way deeper.

>and if the answer is yes, how does that make you feel?

It can make me angry depending on the situation. It can also be empowering if i'm able to change the situation to my favor. Authority figures' weakness is typically their ego. If you appease the ego, often you can come out the victor.

my uncle is a well known lawyer and made a phone call and scared the fuck outta those cops.

I felt resentment until the cop rolled up on my crying about how I didn't need to get my uncle involved because I wasn't actually charged with anything yet...

that felt good but I wonder who they pinned that shit on who didn't have a lawyer on speed dial.

but there were other instances where I spoke my piece, didn't get charged, fined or arrested and STILL felt resentment because we shouldn't have been stopped in the first place.

I don't see how you don't feel resentment when a cop stops you, ask for ID and you know damn well it's only because of your skin color and because he has a badge.

Nah, I think it's because I'd recanted my original reply and stated that I wasn't using the accurate definition of resentment. I then posted a reply that I thought clarified WHY I didn't have disdain for cops...just for the system. I feel like it's possible to not like something/someone but not necessarily have disdain for them...that's all.

>i don't know what's going on in this post.
A whole lot! lol... And yeah, a lot of that is on me. My bad.

gotten into what I consider to be a more rational(for me) & mature (for me) mindset about them.

They are part of a system. That system though?? I resent the fck outta that. I'll probably get dogpiled for this...but I recognize that cops are people....when they are in Cop Mode....my stance is "That's a cop, they are in cop mode, they have the potential to help & hurt me, I don't like that they have the power/authority to make that choice because of the system that's in place here, so I'm going to do everything in MY personal power to not have to interact with them unless I need them to assist me."

It's a complex world we live in. There are no simple answers to anything related to how to maneuver in society and how society maneuvers around you....

>37 reads like you don't resent cops who abuse their
>authority...

I've never been a direct victim of what i'd consider "abuse", so I don't have a reference point for that resentment. In general, all interactions i've had with cops, there was wrong on both sides of the play...so I conceded balance and resentment didn't come into play. When it comes to the court system and everything that followed though??? Fck yeah I felt/feel resentment.

why is getting rid of resentment and anger a rational or mature thing to do in this instance?

if something is wrong, isn't anger a healthy emotion?

i used to feel that way,
but i am growing to feel that what i thought of as maturity
was actually resignation.

if it feels like you can't change something,
they yeah... you just say i can't fix that and ignore it.

but the way police interact with us IS something that we can change.
but we can't change it if we think it is mature to accept
everything as it is currently, without feeling resentment
or anger towards the way the system is set up.

^ not snark.

honest question.

>why is getting rid of resentment and anger a rational or

In some situations, having that much anger bottled up can lead to a fuse being blown at the wrong time/place and directed at the wrong target. For instance, that professor that was exercising in the street and then was approached by the cops....she obviously had a lot of pent up feelings behind racial profiling...rightfully so...but she unleashed it at the wrong target IMO...thus diminishing it's effectiveness on the overall movement. But we're not going to get into that here lol...I know my stance on it is unpopular...

But the argument is ALWAYS going to be valid that there are good cops and bad cops...so couching any discussion on injustice with a resentment towards cops as the basis is going to be a potential fail IMO. I like that the Black Lives Matter movement is more targeting the system.....

>if something is wrong, isn't anger a healthy emotion?

Indeed it is. But at what point does anger turn into resentment? I think that was my original misinterpretation of the definition. I always thought of resentment as a festering, unaddressed type of anger that resulted in a sense of powerlessness. But that definition is incorrect apparently.

>i used to feel that way,

>if it feels like you can't change something,
>they yeah... you just say i can't fix that and ignore it.

Never feel like you can't change something is my belief. It make take a long ass time though.... Never ignore it either. I don't ignore things...I just put them in a "To Do" box and chip away at them within my means. Everyone's means aren't the same. Boots on the ground activism isn't my means at this stage in life.

>
>but the way police interact with us IS something that we can

Acceptance isn't what I was trying to convey. Sometimes I just use the wrong words in haste. I do feel resentment towards the system...and i'm often at a point where I feel it's a hopeless cause.

>^ not snark.

None taken.

>honest question.

smh, so now there are 2..

fuck that... I resent when i get stopped for no,fucking reason.

i resent all 5 to 10 times its happened in my life. Male and female cops.

the time we were stopped in Henrico, VA for no reason

the time we were accused of stealing cigs in West Virginia

the time a female cop handcuffed my mother in front of the grandkids in Chicago because she didn't like the way she was answering questions.

the time I was stopped for stealing a car while I was walking home

only time I didn't feel resentment is when I knew damn well I did some shit that wasn't within the law and they had every right to question me or arrest me (never been arrested).

so when i said "a couple of you assclowns answered 'no'" i was referring to that original as one of those 'couple'. b/c though he edited that doesn't change the fact that his original answer to the question posed in the OP was basically 'no'.

you can keep trying to make something of this if you're so desperate to show me up for whatever reason. but i suggest you move on to something else. maybe there's a bug you can chase around the room to keep you busy.

Fairness is debatable. Despite my disdain for cops, I'll readily admit that fairness is debatable.

>and ain't nothing extra about the OP.
>many ppl feel Blacks should just obey cops and pull up their
>pants.

It's not as cut & dry as that though. There's a LOT of culpability to go around.

>some even post here.

Name Names.

>i want to know if ppl resent cops for that. and if not, why
>not.

I don't resent cops. I don't necessarily like them as a group, but I don't resent them. I understand they're just a part of the system. Just like fckin lawyers. I DO resent the system and atmosphere that's being created and HOW it's being created.

>this post is about feelings.
>
>How do you feel about cops having this much authority over
>Black ppl?

They have the same amount of authority over everyone. There's a disparity in how it's exercised indeed. I don't like that disparity. I'm aware it exists and I move accordingly. That's where my resent in the system comes into play.

i've never been much for authority and less so for cops, but you gotta learn how to deal with them. my basic opinion is say and do as a little as possible, try to limit the interaction as much as you can.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Like the ones that killed Eric Garner and tackled James Blake. I hate being told what to do by people who talk the way they do. It's like if Christopher Multisanti decided to become a cop and they wanted to tell me what to do.

do you resent the fact that the penalty for not obeying
cops IMMEDIATELY is often a licence for cops to use violence against you?

do you resent the fact that whites don't get bossed around by cops
as often as Black ppl?

what emotions do you feel when you see a cop?

what emotions do you feel when a cop orders you to do something?

it's not a trick question.

i want to know what you feel when a cop orders you to do something.

there is no wrong answer here.

i don't really care what they do to white people if what they are doing to me is wrong. If they treated white people equally wrongly it wouldn't make me feel better.

IF i'm driving i feel uneasy and nervous. If i just see them on the street i generally don't feel anything unless they look like a douche or are in a huge group. If they approach me in a manner that shows they suspect me of something, i'm immeadiately nervous and uncomfortable

really depends on what the situation/order is. It would be tied to the comments i said above.

exactly, and then the flip side of that is like "WELL TWO COPS KILLED A WHITE KID IN COLD BLOOD AND *OF COURSE* THEY GOT ARRESTED." like dudes want shit to be just as wrong and fucked up for someone else.

getting it right for everyone is the goddamn goal. i get the resentment about not seeing your own people go forward but the answer isn't some zero-sum thing where other people go backward. that doesn't help anybody.

i don't like framing systemic problems with the police force
as a race issue, because it really is a HUMAN RIGHTS issue
that affects everybody.

it affects Black ppl disproportionately, but whites are increasingly affected by it.

i think we need to rally ALL the troops against the growing police state.

given up on making their own decisions in the field.

the black ones that let white cops (and non-black cops, Singh - i see you!) make up stories that fill police reports.

it's disgusting, and im sometimes upset with myself for letting it have gotten to me when it did.

everytime i've been arrested, it was because i was responding with anger to what the police were doing at the time.

with white cops, i can kind of understand how they can be suck dicks.

i dont expect them to understand my language or the way that i feel, so it's easier for me to disconnect from the situation. but a black cop!

woo.

i done talked a black cops head off on the way to being locked up.

i pulled out my BEST talk to me please! he aint budge.

then we pull up, we getting out the car and he see a crack bag in the driveway to the police station on the ground. bamma tried to pin it on me.

i was through.

i particularly hate police reports.

im getting pissed just typing this.

Black people should obey orders from cops with the understanding that it's possible to be setup for a crime.

I've been stopped and frisked in front of a crowd full of people.

Had two cops draw guns on me on a frat house lawn.

Received an involuntary police escort around town which means four police cars pulled me over constantly for three years everywhere I went. These are just a few examples.

Resenting someone won't change things as we need to become part of the decision-making by joining these systems. This cycle can only go on for so long and quite frankly the ramifications of all is this something no one wants to deal with.

When the weather changes and some foul shit happens to people that abuse their power, profit off these policies, and promote hatred of POC I won't shed a tear. I'll have the biggest smile on my face spouting all of these same BS talking points they used to dismiss everything that happened to US.

I shouldn't be thrilled that bad shit happens to them (racist cop, politican, fox news commentator, racist on facebook defending this) or they lose something/someone they cherish... However, WE'VE seen a lot death dismissed over the years due to faulty narratives. WE'VE seen a lot of innocence lost, mocked, and spat on upon death. So it's not possible for me to feel anything remotely considering resentment knowing that when this comes back to them I'm going to party like it's 2008. Whole business establishment sad and I'm cheering with a drink in my hand loud as fuck. Maybe I'm just ruthless or maybe all these deaths, victim shaming, and racist fuckery have changed me somehow.

We shouldn't resent anyone because karma is a bad bitch that don't play. I'm too busy with life to resent a racist cop. Yes, I'd peform CPR on them if they were dying. As a black people, we see this entire situation for what it is.

if you think it is okay for Black ppl to get bossed around by cops, while other ppl don't-- how is that different from
thinking that white ppl DESERVE better treatment from law enforcement?

how is it different from thinking Black ppl are inferior to white ppl?

resentment doesn't change things. but this post isn't about
how to change things.

it's about your emotional reaction to situtations you've seen.

were you indifferent?
angry?
humiliated?

what were your emotions?
this post is about feeling.

this post is about how you feel now.

abuse their power?

Statistically speaking, THEY want to send black people to jail. No, this is not okay and highly messed up. People in power see black people as inferior and fuel for the prison industrial complex. The disproportionate incarceration, stop and frisk data, and crime data support this statement.

^^^ All of this means black people have to obey orders with the HOPE that the police officer won't kill them or send to the lockup. They can hold you for a period of time and not charge you for anything so it's even more fucked up. You could lose your livelihood over a racist cop.

I accepted death in all those moments IF that counts as an emotion. I had a good run so they all have to do is pull the trigger and free me. That's what I was thinking. Being angry is only going to cause this cop to kill me because it's okay for white people to express anger at being pulled over but black person is aggressive and deserves death according to modern examples. Emotionally, in those moments I'm too busy calculating the outcomes of everything in order to not get killed or arrested. Hmmm... let me think...

I wasn't humilated because I'm driving while black and this is what happens.

Oh yeah, I was worried about the hit to my insurance. Worry is an emotion. Absent that my thoughts were in order: Kill me now and if I survive then my insurance is going up as a result of this ticket.

>this post is about how you feel now.
>what is your CURRENT emotional state when you see cops
>abuse their power?

It's messed up but the world at large does not care. I feel sorrow for the victims and absolute sadness for this next generation. Everyone else hating, gloating, and propping themselves up as beacons of moral integrity can kick rocks.

If I'm being honest it's more like an eternal highly combustible ruthless rage that will not be satisfied until I have the option of expressing these same sentiments possibly actions, without the violence or criminal act of course, and watching these people suffer. I want to laugh too gotdammit. This is the type of unspoken, unexpressed, leftover sentiments that turns someone into a coldhearted, stoic, emotionless calculating person. In closing, I love the world and we are one people that just need to heal/come together.

No empathy for white misery (c) BDot

The one hostile encounter I've had with a police officer was when I accidently walked out of the library with a book.

It wasn't violent, but for the first time I had an experience with a cop where I knew the only reason I was being harassed was because I was black.

It felt paralyzing. I truly had no control or power. My 'compliance' was built on fear and not respect.

No one deserves to feel powerless, especially those who don't provoke authority.
