oh, and if you're Black, to
suspend you and build a paper trail that leads to arrest.

i can articulate it better now,
but school always felt more like prison than a place where you are supposed to learn.

and at this point, that is what it has become.

school teaches american mythology.

Columbus discovered America.

John Smith fell in love with pocahontas.

slavery either wasn't bad or didn't exist.

The civil war wasn't about slavery.

Racism ended when MLK politely asked for rights and then got shot.

Math classes are no better.
We learn the Pythagorean Theorm but not how to manage a budget.

To the extent higher math is taught,
we learn it by rote. We don't learn to understand equations, we learn to solve them.

Science classes don't teach evolution because it will make jesus angry.

I could go on and on about how i hate school.

But i won't.

School is designed to make ppl stupid. Always hated it. I would homw school a Black kid if I had one.

I don't trust these ppl with my children's education.

Now i'll read the article.

"Inquisitiveness shriveling up into “Will this be on the test?” A joy for learning worn down into time-efficient hoop-jumping. A willingness to take intellectual risks morphing into formulaic responses without risk of embarrassment."

anything that breaks ppl out of that way of thinking gets cut.

music classes?
cut.

gym classes?
cut.

Recess?
cut.

the point of school is not to make smart ppl.

it's the opposite.

honestly, public education has been a yhorn in the side of rich ppl for a while now.

an educated populace doesn't benefit
wealthy ppl.

education is viewed as a luxury that only a certain class of ppl deserve.

it's really a mess.
