Everything else I didn't enjoy.
And I fuckin hated Yeezus save for like one song. People tend to love it though. If I never hear it again I'll be ok.

i had the opposite reaction of most people. when it first came out i found it somewhat interesting and i didnt hate it like most people.

a lot of folks came around on it once they saw its influence. that was when i started to hate it. it was just a decent experiment, not something i wanted to hear every asshole trying to imitate in the years to come.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

needless to say, when TPAB dropped, he fell into "always check, no matter how skeptical" status

TPABF was a really mature album, in my mind, and it surprised me how many people say they've flocked to it. It's why I'm so skeptical.

but I'm glad it was. I think Kendrick's popularity is rooted in his populism. he's always been like the "people's choice", and though he had industry backing (the largest co-sign of them all), he didn't really switch his style up because he had Dre/Interscope over him

he's a Wayne/Outkast disciple who likes listening to playery and LA hometown music sometimes. as true today as it was in 2008.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

the white audience last night may not have fully understood TPAB but they liked it enough to show up

but yeah it's one of the most deliberately off-putting mainstream rap albums ever, I dont count Yeezus because Im not sure Kanye was even trying to do a good job there

my cousin had a similar opinion but he couldn't really express it, instead he just went on about some shit on how she was more an icon than an artist and now it was just fashionable to like chicana art or something weird like that.

i kind of enjoy her work and i definitely don't find it ambiguous. a lot of is a visual expression of the unseen complexity within, such as personal torment, spirituality and one's position within the broader framework around him.

that i don't like her art or understand how people could, not her personally.

most of it just looks like a second grade art student did it to me. real flat depth of field and whatnot. i'm sure it's on purpose and for a staggeringly deep artistic effect but it's lost on me.

i still blame hip-hop.

some of the portraits are endearing because of that, at least to my eye, but no she is not doing any revolutionary with forms or field of depth or anything like that. i think she is more a pop type artist than someone with traditional chops.

your philistine ass talkin' bout

complex is exactly what Frida's work is... from the metaphor and symbolism to the conversations she having about industrialism, or her obsessive self-examination in relation to what Rivera, Siquieros, and Orozco were doing with their more overtly political and populist art

she is the shit. that shit film and the fangirls are exactly what has diminished how fucn dope her work actually is

I've never liked beers like the Blackberry Wheat from Long Trail.

the dessert ones (think Framboise) are their own thing.

the good ones though can be amazing; good in this case to me usually means ~8% and up abv, low hop, belgian yeast, lots of caramel malts... I've got a case of http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/392/98561/ chilling in my basement and it's excellent & improving with age.

plus I've done several homebrews with raspberries and mulberries, which seem to work best as a strong brown ale aged with oak cubes.

It can be very refreshing when done right and subtly (e.g. Magic Hat #9) or it can be an extension barleywines and other such hybrid drunks as I like to call them, where you get a beer buzz and a wine buzz together. A good lambic definitely delivers that in spades.

True story.

I always get pomodoro or napolitana with extra fresh tomato and easy garlic, either fettuccine or penne. My chick loves Alfredo sauce though and I am like WTF? She gets it on spaghetti, too, which is even worse. I am not longer embarrassed by the food choices of others though, not since I had a buddy in college (a Jew, no less!) who liked ketchup on his pastrami sandwiches.

fuggit, the '70s too, but I could ALMOST see it on some "cheap Lincoln-ish" shit. but in the peak Malaise Era, that car was 100% bullshit

post-Malaise and pre-'02 reboot, that car best be considered a personal shuttle to Weis. not as MURRICA as the Mulletstang. But nearing it.

the T-Bird's heyday was in the '50s and '60s IIRC. and because of that... yeah. I think the people who really like it were around and driving during that time.

Yes, I'm mad. Let's move on.

no, it wasn't a THUNDERBIRD in the way that the 50s/60s car was, but it was a super reliable full-size coupe.

I'm much more inclined to hate on the Wedge o' Cheese that is the C4 through C6 Corvette.

LOL @ Wedge of Cheese.

well, there are SOME C4s that I do hate on.

even some C3s, but that's more due to GM not being able to cope with the changes the Malaise Era brought about

Which we took on the drive from Jersey to Florida around when we first got it, only for the transmission to blow (which I do remember). Other than that, thing was a tank. Then we got into a cycle of vans, including a Trans Sport and Mark II Ford, which we REALLY didn't need but for the trip to FL.

Ah, the Trans Sport. there was one thing I thought was cool about that platform. If only the unity between the .... Grand Prix? (whichever was "their" Lumina) and that van.

someone in china might not have even eaten 50% of the available dishes because of the different regions and styles like you said
the thing that seems consistent though is the fact that it's not really suited to the american palate

Wale is one of those guys I just WANT to be good because of the mixtapes, because he's from DC area, etc.

I actually liked The Album About Nothing because it felt like a return to form, he said some things on there that were mildly controversial, but on the same note, it's kind of Drake-ish?

and Drake can eat da poo poo.

better than Attention Deficit.

but yeah, that's not saying much.

Wale is a classic product of the Aughts and mixtape mania.

it's 2015 now, no excuse for wack albums. I don't have time to hear albums made for focus groups

They type of people that tell me they love him, have no abstract art in their homes. He wasn't making pretty pictures. His work was complicated, and I think they only like him because it's hip to say it.

I can appreciate his work, but I don't know that I would want something in that style in my home to look at every day.

but if you're kicking off a proper day drink you need something with a little higher octane than champagne watered down with fruit juice.

Extra spicy. Goes well with brunch. Or pre-flights. Mimosas are cool if they're bottomless and I'm not trying to be awake after noon

(this also explains why participation after age 12 is so poor):

Basically if you're bad at sports, soccer is the sport for you. In baseball, you have to get up there, just you and the pitcher, somewhere between one and five times a game. If you fucking suck, you are going to strike out and everyone is going to see it. In basketball, you can't hide from the ball and you are going to have to do stuff with it, including shoot it. If you shoot the goddamn ball over the glass or launch an airball from five feet away, people will ridicule the fuck out of you. In football or hockey, your suckiness could literally get you seriously injured. But in soccer, you can more or less just run around for the entire span of the game, generally avoiding the ball and your mistakes will appear understandable or at least not all that egregious more often than not.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

i've heard a few american players insinuate they weren't the best players growing up. they were just the one's who's parents had the money to help get them that far. Soccer doesn't have the same youth infastructure the other sports do so a ton of kids fall through the cracks.

it's not like hockey where the ice team, equipment, etc are prohibitive in almost every area of the united states. with soccer the club team shit does get expensive but there are places with great HS programs.

There aren't necessarily plays called on both ends & cats are out there free-styling on both sides while staying in their lane. You can think of it as playing defense in football or running a hurry-up/read option offense. You have to be able to read & react thus you need guys with high IQ otherwise even the most physically gifted players end up looking like bums ala QBs.

The closest thing to Futbol is football except it doesn't have play stoppages or play-calls.

WHAT'S GOOD *****? What's REALLY good?!?!????!!! Ha HA!

International soccer doesn't have the same level of consistency cause there's always different players coming in and out, they may or may not know each other, coming from different systems/teams, and only play 10 or 11 times a year

following specific leagues is better. International games are just fun distractions and the WC is kinda like All-Star Weekend

I've tried so hard for so many years to get into it but I just can't at all.

My solution, remove the goalie and make the goal smaller so it evens out. That way I'm not watching a long as game with the score being 1-0 at the end.

Have that shit be like 30-23 and I'll get interested.

If you are going to complain about the scoring being 1-0 then you must not like the 85 Bears, 2000 Ravens, The Steel Curtain...etc. Even then team like Barca, Mardid, Bayern are thumping teams 5-0 so that would be the equivalent of 35-0

WHAT'S GOOD *****? What's REALLY good?!?!????!!! Ha HA!

That's definitely true to a certain extent.

I love real beer, but sometimes I just want a Miller Lite or a Bud...especially if I'm eating something heavy like BBQ, burgers and fries, wings, etc. I'm not going to pair a stout or an IPA with heavy food. Or on a really hot day and I'm spending time outside.

To put it another way, sometimes a chef from a great restaurant will eat at McDonald's. Of course they know it's trash, but it's something they appreciate from time to time. It either brings back childhood memories, or it's just a craving.

i mean i am not opposed to maybe fucking in the shower--say she is washing up and i'm already rearing to go--but to actually try to bathe together? fug that. first of all the height differential usually means one of us is getting smacked in the face by the water and secondly the shower is where i do my only decent thinking. any time i have writer's block--usually means i am having difficulty *organizing* a story--i hit the shower and it all clears up. i also plot out my day in there. i don't want some lil bish singing off key or asking me for a favor later. the shower is me time.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Because sex in the shower always seems like a great idea, but in actual practice it can be kind of a pain in the ass. It's cramped, your feet are slippery, the angles are awkward, and you get tired quickly depending on the position. I always just end up wishing we were on the bed.

If you're a dyed-in-the-wool right winger who still calls our president "Obummer," and actually thinks he's a socialist, despite a record that would make Nixon look like Mao, Cruz is your guy. I totally get why he has followers.

He has a couple songs I like, and I get his lane. But...95% of the requests I get are for Future, and they ask for it ANYWHERE.

I'm DJing a Wedding Friday, and it's during the Dinner portion...like, they are literally having Dinner. I'm playing SWV "Weak," and a few folks are on the floor slow dancing and singing along. This girl comes up and says "so....I know you groovin or whatever, but when you gon turn up and play some Future?"

And it's where folks will act like EVERY song he has is made to be played in the club. I have said it a few time that "Freak hoes" isn't even a great Twerk track...it's nowhere near "Ayy ladies" or "Pop that" at all.

I can't seem to connect musical dots to it because it's (from my ignorant pov) self referential

When sampling was a part of hip hop you could back and back and back end up in some crazy other genre

Or with something like house you could catch the references and dig and find call and response

This stuff? Grown in a lab. Or it's a reference that references a reference

Aaaaaaand I'm old.

the flightposite 1 was my favorite foam shoe and it was light, fast and sleek. the original one was more a WOW factor that was there in 98 but not there in 2015 after they have clubbed the shoe to death now.

the lebron series has had some winners and a little over half total losers. it's given them a platform for a new type of performer, a shoe that's both fast and powerful. as a result you have had some huge winners in my opinion, like the 8 V2 and 10 elite, and some huge losers, like the 4 and 12. same thing with kobe, the line took some time to find its identity and now it's a bit wayward again but the 4, 6, 8 and 9 were all great shoes that, in some cases, debuted new concepts.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

i admit the early 2000s were a rough period, their first experiment with a synthetic-dominated line and things like Tuned Air/Shox were ill-fated to be sure.

but i dont think you can completely overlook series like the lebron, kobe, hyperdunk, etc or some of the fine one-off shoes they have produced. i think today jordan brand and under armour are better performers, but also more awkward looking on the whole.

i saw the appeal of the foamposite VERY much so when it originally came out, we are talking 1997/1998 (Foam One, Pro, Max, Flightposite 1 ... the later versions were all terrible such as the Skyposite, FP3, etc only the Ultraposite was passable).

they were a definitively futuristic shoe and they were incredibly durable. since about 2010 they have shifted to using a cheaper quality foam that has diminished from the feel noticeably and from the durability substantially.

now they chip, crack and peel; the uppers do not last the way the soles do (previously that was reversed). they also look cheap and have a lot of weird colors. the suede ones look decent, but suede, as a traditional and sensitive material, sort of undermines the identity of the shoe.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I can and I am.. I hate the silhouettes (Only future silhouette i'll allow is Marty McFlys).... Nike's innovation post y2K was in running...

I hate them.. They don't hold a candle to AJ1, dunk, af1, airmax 95 silhouettes..

The VisZoom Uptempo, Aggress Force, Battle Force Max, Big Flyer, Penny IV, Team Max Zoom, Super Max (Air Max Way Up also) and Air Max Elite were all sweet. You had decent ones like the Flight 2K3, Zoom Ultraflight, Air Zoom BB and even the odd Shox release (Shox Ups, Stunner, Bomber), etc. In recent years I was a big fan of the LeBron 8 V2 and the 7 had a nice silhouette though the shoe was just OK. No high performance shoe can really compare with something like the AF1, I don't think that's fair as the AF1 is also a clunky, heavy thing with next to no tech. You still have some pretty sleek, simple silhouettes like the Kobe 4. I think the retro thing was negative overall, because for a while there they neglected new releases and innovations, and ultimately the quality diminished to a point where the "new" old shoes were almost unrecognizable to someone who owned them when they were actually new.

I actually think their running stuff has stagnated considerably from a silhouette standpoint and aesthetics in general. I do appreciate the comfort of the Vomero series but this is the fourth straight model on the same last with the same tooling. Very boring. Their other series are just a bunch of bright colors and loud features, though I do find them much more comfortable than their 90s counterparts. With a few less-than-notable exceptions (Air Max Deluxe, Tuned Max, Zoom Drive), I thought everything up until the huge volume Air era (2009 or so) sucked in terms of performance. Now the performance is better (though still not as good as other companies) but the looks are a weird mix of loud and unexciting.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Most of those shoes you mentioned look like they were made by Under Armour

And even though "tech" in older silhouettes isn't up to date.. no one complains about tech in chucks.. but again classic silhouette

I feel you on that...

I split the two... cuz as a former track athlete I knew the tech was still in brands like Brooks, NB & even mizzuno before I would look for it in Nike..

So I know Nike genius is really Tinker's genius and that's what I love about the shoes & older silhouettes.. not necessarily tech

rarely mix in a nike. previously i thought nike had the best hoops shoes, one area where they were able to distinguish themselves performance wise. their football stuff was also very good quality, no frills, functional stuff.

Nah, I actually like a rich, creamy milk chocolate, too, but it's basically a lightened-up imitation. Dark chocolate can be very rich in flavor and pure cacao, while bitter, is a delight for the sensation it produces. I am talking the 99% stuff, not the 75%. But in the 65%-85% range there is a ton of flavor, too, though you have to try a lot of bitter ones with unpleasant texture to find them. Once you do though, it's another level, almost like half culinary pleasure and half drug.

living there seems unappealing (cold, expensive, shitty parking) but to visit i have always enjoyed it. great concert hall where the pops play, fun baseball stadium plus a great college hockey scene, delicious seafood (and outside the city also), decent drinking scene if you're into that, etc.

i find the accommodations to be pretty nice, too, like any time i have gone for work and been in a pinch where i needed a quick haircut or some menswear, shit was convenient and pleasant. that's not true of every city.

even outside of hockey it's a cool sports city, though it was better when they had that sweat box the gahden than now that they have this sterile thing inside a train station. gilette is no prize but the patriots are less a boston team than a team of front-runners and cheaters all over the country.

i dunno, for a big city it's clean and pretty pleasant. like it doesn't have an overflow of garbage like nyc and philly, it's got some foilage and i find the people to be pretty decent. i just don't have anything against the place, it's not my favorite but of all the major cities it heads the list of ones i find inoffensive and bordering on kinda cool.

which are served warm with butter unlike the cold, tossed traditional one.

island creek and neptune oyster bars have good seafood. i went to a real fancy italian place on the north end (probably $200+ a person) that was good, mainly because i didnt pick up the bill. can't recall the name for the life of me. avoid chain places and stick to joints that serve local fish. check out the papers and stuff to see if there are any seafood type events, maybe outside the city. they always have some kind of festival it seems like. the seafood is the unique thing, pub food is good (steak tips and shit) and they have good italian places if you want a big heavy meal. of course they got all the other ethnic food too but it's mostly a crap shoot.

And you will know MY JACKET IS GOLD when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I can see how people wouldn't like Curb (or Seinfeld), but they are usually unfunny and corny and I couldn't be friends with them if they don't get it.
