"Commonly mistaken facts about Rappers/Singers"

What are some that you can think of? Here's some I always hear:

-BONE Thugs are from L.A.

-Run DMC was on Def Jam (I AAAALWAYS thought this)

-Warren G was on Death Row

-DJ Quik produced "Bitch betta have my money" for AMG

-Mack 10 created "Pistol grip pump" (this is because of Napster mislabeling the song, and because Mack 10 n T-Boz remade it)

I figured NY is because everyone assumes any "East Coast" rapper is from NY. Never heard Canada or Atlanta before. I can see where someone might say Canada, but Atlanta is a mystery.

I think Canibus relocated to Atlanta around the time of "C True Hollywood Stories".

...he lived down this way for a little bit while he was still trying to get put on. If memory serves me correctly, he battled some of the Wu and associates while they were in town and was serving them until Killah Priest got in him. He had a partner down here that was supposedly as nice as him and was a part of the battle against the Wu. Mind you, my memory is a little fuzzy about this but as far as I can remember, that's what I read about his time in Atlanta.

...was the first 2nd II None album. AMG and TTP are credited for the "Bitch Betta Have My Money" album. He did like two songs on the Hi-C album, and the rest is done by Tony A. Seems a little weird in retrospect.

we all just KNEW it was Quik the whole time, especially since the second bar is "Word to the muthaphukkin DJ Quik!" I read an interview a few years ago where AMG was like MAD about how Quik always got credited for it, and I was just like "wait............he didn't make it???"

If anything, I'd always thought Total Track Productions were the guys behind it. And they may actually be, since they're credited as the Exec Producers, Engineers, and mixers for the album.

The first time I heard it on the radio me and my boy first thought it WAS Rakim, then I said "naw, that's Paris, listen to how gruff he sounds".

When the DJ said "Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince" minds were blown. Then I started saying that one of them must have written it 'cause there's no way Fresh Prince wrote it.

Sounds wild, but that was a legit 16 years ago...like exactly 16 at this point. The singles got more play in 2000. But yeah, I've argued with a few people and had to pull it up on Wiki.

"Woke up out that coma in 2001 around the same time that Dre dropped 2001"

I remember vividly when that album came out. It was 99. I was in 9th grade. "Still Dre" had been out for a few weeks and then "Forgot About Dre" and "What's The Difference" leaked a few days before the album did. Eminem was on fire at that point, and those songs had everyone salivating.

....that's just how I remember it. I remember getting the album back in '99 and how Dre had planned on naming it "Chronic 2000" until Suge pulled that ho' move and dropped his own version of an album with the same name, thus prompting Dre to rename the project "Chronic 2001."

Montell Jordan is from the West Coast, however due to Death ROw records blowing up Russell Simmmons scooped him up and brought him to Def Jam 4)

Jimi Hendrix was a Session guitar player in the Chitlin circuit before he found his groove 5)

Michael Jackson originally wrote the song "Nighttime Lover" for Donna Summers and she refused and he gave it to his sister Latoya. 6)

Ralph Trasvant singing a verse on Bobby Brown's "Every little step" 8)

Babyface around before the Deele 9)

DJ Quik played the Bass and Keys on R.Kelly's "Home Alone" However only G One got credit as a co Producer on that track 10)

The original beat was from Project Pat http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zShFldhiU_o .

Originally it was supposed to be three 6 & UGK on the song but they had just won the Oscar & their label (I believe Sony) wouldn't green light it.

It was makin rounds around all star game & outkast jumped on it & it was gonna be the remix. So the version we know now, is actually the remix.

at a dude from ATL's Wedding, as the last song of the night....the reaction was WIIIILD, everybody rappin word for word on Dre's part, and then gettin over the top hype for Pimp C's verse. Hard to imagine that it might not have happened. That's a Top 5 Southern track last decade, and they ran the decade.

In response to Reply # 52

I believe this was on their album as a bonus track.

But yeah, the version with Outkast is way better. I always thought the Three 6 version was the remix but it seems as if it was the original and they had to remake it with Outkast.

Shakur was a common surname adopted by members of the Black Liberation Army. When his mother was locked awaiting trial, Assata was in the same jail. The former Joanne Chesimard was not blood related to Matulu Shakur.

I feel like I've spent an inappropriately large portion of my life telling people that they're repeating a made up, awful lie.

Because they're always just so sure and confident about it, yet also always have the same flimsy foundation to explain it.

Suge didn't hang Vanilla Ice over a balcony. He, all alleged by the eway, calmly sat down to eat dinner with him after his security beat up Ice's security and coerced Ice into a signing away royalties. This money was used to fund Death Row. Ice had the option of getting the money back later but declined. If he pushed to get that money back hip-hop changes forever as there's a possibility Death Row does not exist today.

Hov wanted to get off Rocafella as soon as Vol. 1 dropped but Biggie died. Speaking Hov, he's grimey as shit as far as hip-hop history goes.

Rick Ross would've had Kanye produce an entire album if he Kanye didn't get in a car accident.

Nas wanted to catch the fade with Hov after finding out about Carmen. Come and Get Me is a direct response to an earlier Nas diss. "I remove your roof nigga let the sun shine in...."

Interscope conspired to end Death Row because Suge was a bully to powerful people for the sole purpose of weaker employees.
