if you're looking at it from a strategic point of view, young, energetic person of color would do it. identify politics still gets folks out to the polls.

It rarely has happened....But I don't think THAT would stop Hillary from picking Bernie as her VP if she were to get the nomination....

What would stop her from picking Bernie is political common sense......

If it's Hill Dawg she will def. scoop up a southern WHITE man....Bernie will not get picked for a VP post because he wouldn't help her electoral vote (Bern is doing the damn thing; but he doesn't pull in the South.......)

If it's Rubio (he's gaining steam....) he will pick a white male...someone who is NOT currently running for the Republican nomination.....

And if its Jeb (highly doubt it) he will pick Carly F. to combat Hillary....(I don't see Rubio playing a secondary role to Jeb...)

Trump? His VIP will be himself.....

The question seems to be whether Sanders will want to do the playing of ball necessary to commit to being on the ticket. I would hope he would-- a Clinton/Sanders bill would be tough to beat.

If he loses, by the time he could run against whoever the incumbent is, he'd be 78-79. That's too old. So if he loses this go around, he's done in terms of the presidency.

I'm not sure he's the best candidate for Secretary of State, because Foreign Affairs isn't really his strongest suit. Secretary of the Treasury?

The highest office he'll ever reach in his career if Hillary gets the nomination is Vice President (assuming nothing bad happens). He could also really help rally voters behind her, as his passion for getting young people to vote is easily one of his greatest strengths. She could potentially serve eight years with him in tow.

I'm not convinced he's out of it... but much of the media seems to indicate that she's the heavy favorite and the most "presidential." I'm not sure Bernie can look to the masses like a "more presidential" candidate than Hillary.

He'd be good for Secretary of Labor. Maybe Interior.

I don't see how he's going to be adding "enough" to a ticket headed by Hillary to make him a viable VP candidate. Just the potential enthusiasm of his base isn't going to cut it.

And really, I shouldn't be as worried as I am about the Dems winning.

I just wish there was a way to capitalize on his rabid fanbase, to cleanly transfer their rabid love for Bernie over to Hillary. I'm sure they'll all vote for her... but as he said in the debate, we need that turnout.

not unlike the Clinton/Obama situation in 2008. back then the talk was the same - many ppl expected Obama to add her to his ticket. others suspected he'd offer her a cabinet position or SCOTUS nomination.

The tickets will be Clinton/O'Malley vs Rubio/Kasich.

Bernie will get an economic post in Clinton's cabinet.

I'm sure that's how u roll, dog....

But don't get it twisted....It's not about a VP pick being the deciding factor.....It's how said VP pick affects the thought process of voters respectively beyond Democratic/Republican base....

In other words the Democratic base didn't choose Obama as President because Biden was on a ticket. But Biden on the ticket did help O'Beezy get just enough burn with working class white men and white women to pull out the win.....

Like Obama (a black man), as a woman Hill Dawg's VP pick will be scrutinized.....She fucks that up and that may be all she wrote....Ask J. Mccain's ass about Palin...Was HUGELY popular with the Republican base....Everyone else? Not so much....

and i think the dem candidate is best served focusing on the democratic base and ignoring the outliers and undecided. fuck them. turn out the base. especially Hillary - she doesn't want to fuck around chasing ghosts (aka undecideds) and lose the base in the process. especially since she's already tagged w/saying anything to get elected. she's gotta be careful chasing those undecideds. she should focus on the base. so i'd like to see her choose some VP who's even further left than she. whatever b/c as i said - idc. but the idiot undecideds might be happier if she chooses a moderate. b/c they're scaredy-cat fools who can't make a fucking choice between 2 polarized candidates and parties. they shouldn't even be allowed to vote. fuck voter id laws we need voter iq laws. but i digress. fuck them and idc.

Hillary Clinton is already focusing on the Democratic base. She scooped up much of Bernie's VERY left platform on some "Oh, thanks...I'll take that..." Barring a dead hooker falling out of her emails she will be her party's nomination.

But there's a rub. As a female Presidential candidate her VP pick is just as pivotal as Obama's pick...It just is.....

>want to fuck around chasing ghosts (aka undecideds) and lose

It's not about being scared or chasing ghosts....It's Politics 101....Hill Dawg is a woman. She has to do all she can to scoop up votes OUTSIDE her base the same way Obama had to the first time around...

>b/c they're scaredy-cat fools who can't make a fucking choice

Anyway, I call it my dream ticket not because it will happen but I think it would be crazy interesting to see how the Country would react to that.

let Hilary's steam out as the "first woman President" from a political standpoint.

However, on merit and agenda, she is qualified and much of her ideology pairs well with Sanders' narrative. I think they could get a lot of progressive legislation accomplished and look out for most of America that desperately needs it.

Especially with Rubio going to be somewhere on the GOP ticket, the Dems are not going to even chance looking like they're taking Latino votes for granted. And they won't want to have two fite wolks on the ticket while and have the GOP ticket being the one that's diverse.

The "diverse" u r looking for is a woman at the top of ticket...That trumps the whole two white folks running thing....

The Castro's would indeed be an inspired VP pick....But they would only be savvy pick for Hill Dawg if the Repubs were indeed serious about courting the Latino vote....Trump's DEPORT THEM AND BUILD A WALL mess has fucked it up for them ALL.....And Rubio is viewed as a dude that when the heat was truly on he ran away from his support for immigration reform once his racist Right Wing base started shitting on Latinos....

The truth is Hillary would only need one of the Castros if she were running against George W. Bush pre 911....That moron's outreach towards Latino's was fucking brilliant....Rubio, while he will be a legit leading candidate, has already fumbled what was supposed to be his best strength: Immigration.....

Possibly, but I maintain not as many people are paying attention to the election, even now, as will be in nine months from now. This thing really starts with the conventions, and I'm sure the GOP candidates, especially Rubio and Bush, feel they can use the proverbial Romney Etch-a-Sketch when it comes to framing their arguments on what they stand for.

Also, I wouldn't count out New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez ending up the VP candidate for the GOP. She's very popular in the Southwest, falls in line with the GOP right when it comes to social issues, and isn't quite as insane on immigration. IF she ends up on the ticket, count on one of the Castros.

One thing I know is that the Dem. VP candidate WON'T be any of the presidential candidates outside of MAYBE Webb. None of the others give Hilary anything she would need.

There is no Etch a Sketch when the Republican leading ALL the polls is on some Deport Them All platform....U talking about party conventions? lol....Trump has pretty much flipped standard political wisdom on its head....

Yeah, I could see Rubio inch out a hard fought battle against Trump to get the nomination...But the damage has already been done in terms of the Repubs' Latino outreach....Doesn't matter if they had a Latino who was a war hero on the ticket....The Republican Base will NOT come out in droves in the general election if ANYONE at the top of the Conservative ticket is tallking positive immigration reform....

Yeah, I keep on hearing this but there's no evidence that it's actually true. Seriously, the election is in over a year from now. In the words of John Oliver, there are kids who are going to be born on election day who's parents haven't even met yet. So it's all cute now, but let's see any of them keep the momentum and stay interested. And how many people remember any of this shit in July 2016.

Again, that doesn't factor in Martinez. I could see Bush or Rubio getting the nom., and Martinez being the VP candidate.

and even that vote is split because the younger Cubans and the non-Cuban latinos are turned off by his immigration flip flop and his hardline cuban embargo stance.

No way Jose any west coast, midwest, or northeast Latinos even look at the waterboy
Plus being associated with Trump is the kiss of death as far as Latinos are concerned.

White votes and are aiming for just enough blue collar whites to win ( and solid endorsements from big labor seals that up). The type of whites that Jim web would draw in aren't here for Hilary and were already mostly loss under Obama

I would agree with all THIS^^^^^^^^IF the Repugs weren't already shooting themselves in the foot with Latinos....

Getting a Castro on the ticket would be overkill at this point. If Rubio wasn't such a pussy I def. would ride with your premise....

i know they're apparently rising stars in the party, but can any of us distinguish who's done what, or who's more qualified to be president if they had to step in, or if either one of them are?

i dunno... we've had this conversation before, but i just don't see it. it feels like too much of a calculated identity choice, which i think could ultimately backfire.

He's the one who spoke at the DNC Convention in 2012. He's the one who was Mayor of San Antonio. He's the one who's currently on the cabinet.

I'd say it's reasonably likely to happen. Hillary has been doing photo ops with Julian and Joaquin for years, and they've been positioning themselves as supporters of each other for a while. The DNC has dreams of turn Texas into a blue state a few election cycles down the road, and nominating a Castro would be a good choice. Meanwhile, aside from Webb, none of the other Dem. presidential candidates is a viable choice for VP.

Yes black lives matter. The best way to end the slaughter of young black men is to take guns away from blacks as they are the main killers.

That would make everyone's head explode and it isn't even a bad idea.
Politically impossible, but not a bad idea as far as effectiveness.

Someone hear should go ahead and write that think piece and do hella numbers.
