"General Parent Shit: 2015"

Odd Squad is hands-down the best kids tv show right now.

These white folk be stunting so hard with these Bugaboo strollers. They be paying a G for the fucking INFANT ones. That shit is good for a YEAR, at most.

I think those play-doh and suprise egg video are ISIS recruiting tools. #STAYWOKE

though I had to tone down their Power Rangers addiction. Maybe I need to find this show.

The only thing I really don't mind them watching is Sesame Street, Curious George and Wild Kratts.

What am I going to do about this addiction to Ipads though. I walk through the door and thats the first thing they want and I only allow about half an hour and its the worst fits after.

Boys started a new school for pre-K and I have been impressed that they have several other black kids in the class and a black teacher. Even have Rosa Parks, MLK and Malcom X on the wall. Malcolm X!!

Weird thing is while it is black diverse their aren't many other POCs.

Preparing to interview these after school nannys and for whatever reason we are getting a diluge of pretty women. Wife has no idea why I am rejecting these girls with little explanation. Can't really break it down for her.

man he would fucking DIE at Tom & Jerry. Also the Roadrunner, Chicken Hawk, and Speedy Gonzalez were his favorites. But the violence in the cartoons along with the orchestra. They are so perfect.

Yaaaaassssss! My 3 year old is on Odd Squad. She binged watch that ish for a while but she's backed off a little. When I was catching Nintendo references watching that ish, I found myself watching it.

PBS Kids has some of the best kid shows on tv.

Oh, and if you haven't put your kid on ABCmouse yet, you are missing out. That shit has my early pre-k student shaming 5 year olds!!!! 😉. Between that, and her mommy working with her on the day to day, she is shocking all teachers and daycare providers😀. Your kids are little sponges. The more we expose them to in these early years, the better. My kid is already doing addition and subtraction!!!!! 😊 (I'm kinda bragging but seriously I will say that all the educational software and working on her Spanish is paying off). Start early. Don't wait until they start school or they will be way behind.

I'd say 2/3 of the jokes are for parents.

As far as ABC mouse goes, I don't want to over-do the academic stuff. She's already got a full plate with pre-school, sports and Korean school. She's solid with the numbers and rudimentary math concepts, adn she can alread sound out some 3 letter words, so I'm cool. Studies show that kids who tend to catch up to the ones who were really advanced are 3 or 4, so really pushing the reading, writing, 'rithmitic for toddlers hasn't been proven valuable.

gravitate to whatever stands out most in the crowd when it comes to women (and men)....by nature.

For girls, it's just a constant bombardment of whiteness that is very very very hard to counter. It's just going to be an uphill struggle I imagine.... we haven't even introduced the concept of race to her yet.

She don't even fck with Doc McStuffins too much anymore...she's all about Olivia now...at least she's a pig...

when she started walking around with all kinda $hit on her head as a substitute for long blonde hair because "she was the girl from 'Tangled'".

My wife saw the seething B/black rage in my eyes and talked me down: 'She'll grow out of it'

She did.

I hate Disney, but I let her cook with Tiana (even tho she was a fkn FROG thru most of her own damb movie).

http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Montgomery-County-Goddard-School-Closure-Daycare-Blue-Bell-301325091.html

Franchise holder had roughly $1300 of our cash, and we had nowhere to send our kid come Monday. My wife was freaking the hell out.

Fortunately
a) we live across the street from another place, and got him in by Tuesday afternoon. My kid wound up liking it much better, and made some friends that are in his kindergarten class starting this fall. $300 more/month though .
b) Franchisor wound up making good on all cash within a month. Not bad.

The B-agile is AWESOME. Nice infant carseat/stroller combo. Upgraded to the Marathon seat, but still rocking the stroller base.

Plus we got the Uppababy G-Lite for short haul/daily day care dropoff.

Now that my so. Has outgrown the infant seat, we're going with the Diono car seats. They're narrower, so we can get a very skinny adult between the two car seats.

They start at 6 months old and run through 5th grade, the kids there are smart as hell. Its expensive as crap though, but its worth it. He's not even 2 yet and knows a lot more than some of the same aged kids in the neighborhood that do other options. We had considered a nanny until we came across this school, his class is small and has 2 teachers so he gets a lot of individual attention.

At that stage, my greatest concern would be my child's health. No need to be around other kids, or people who are handling other kids.

She has been with the boys 3 weeks and the boys don't know her name.

First day we said she should give the boys snacks and she gave them potato chips and skittles.

The sink was full of the kids plates and she didn't think to put them in the washer.

She is generally just there and doesn't really engage them. I come home they all watching TV.

So my wife called me up in tears!!!! I was out of town and she took the boys to this event at the school.

She was talking to one of the parents from our boys pre-school class who we happened to know socially before they started together (friends of a mutual friend). Anyone my wife was all "hey we got to get the kids together for a play date" because one of my twins (Kid B) is besties with her son. Then she got serious and was "like yeah I've been meaning to talk to you". Can we talk? Then she proceeds to break down that her kid doesn't like my OTHER son (Kid A) and that she was at a party for another kid's party and the children were discussing how they don't like my other son.

All came as a shock. We just had a PTC and we probed alot about how the boys are getting along. What the teacher told us is that Our kid A was very popular particularly with the girls. They did say that he bumped heads with THAT woman's son because A.) they were both "Alpha" types and B.) they compete for the attention of my Kid B. The teacher says it was fairly normal and they weren't concerned.

So you could see how my wife was upset by it all. I was kind of heated that this mother would see fit to insert herself into pre-school social politics (she admitted that her husband didn't see the big deal and didn't want to make much ado about it).

My wife was at this social event for the kids ballin about it to the point people were coming up and saying what's the matter?

The other mother has been apologetic and has been texting my wife offering to "help Kid A anyway she can". Offering to have play dates so the boys can socialize and what not.

I'm all fcuk them ain't nothing wrong with my boy. Went to the teachers today to see if we were missing something and after telling the story the teacher said they didn't see anything like that.

I am telling my wife that this chick is on some means girls offering of help and is projecting her own issues on the issues about our kids conflict.

It just kind of sucks because we are the new folks at the school and it feels clique-ish already and we feel like this mother is trying to establish some narrative that nobody likes our kid.

Trying to figure out my next move. I am thinking of calling the husband and asking him to check his wife. I am lightweight mad at my wife for falling for this mean girls reverse psychology projecting bullshit.

Can you believe this bullshit???!?!?

It also sucks because these other parents are POC.

It's mean girl shit.

I keep telling her they boys. They will work it out and if they don't it's okay. They don't need to be "liked" like that. I wasn't liked like that.

The other mother is playing damage control because all sorts of people saw my wife crying and she wants to contain the story that she told my wife that nobody likes our son.

In response to Reply # 57

ain't worth shit.

(for the record though i've been there and the real issue was i ain't like the parent and how they was raising the kid. i kept my feelings about the kid to myself (and my wife) and told the parent i ain't like they ass)

2) don't even matter because if you're at one it ain't worth dealing with them in the first place because they petty talk shit behind your back and on the low don't think you're shit anyway.

3) but that don't give you the right to be anything to they kid and if you're in a school social setting you have to do everything you can to mediate good interactions between they kids.

4) if one is really true all your efforts in three will be for naught because they petty ass will find a way to project a problem that will result in distancing themselves.

5) but put that on them. do not be that one talking about you can't play with kid x or kid x moms this kid x moms that.

6) 5 is probably the number one cause for problems between kids today.

i judge parents based on strollers. britax is so extra. $800-1000 for a fucking stroller?! really?

and why are there more clothing options for girls as there are for boys?

My daughter likes to just build houses and stuff.

But when I play with her, the world she built for me has all of the monsters and "creepers" and stuff, so I can have something to do instead of just building clear floors in a house on a mountain

and parents always try to ruin it by making it educational

(it is on the low though, just let them be with it)

MONITOR THE SERVERS THEY CONNECT TO!!!

There's a lot of dumb shit.

Still if you can you gotta let them try the dumb shit until they tire out of it, then they find ways to challenge themselves.

That's when the learning happens.

But defeating the ender dragon is probably the most anti-climatic shit you'll ever see, but they will rave about it for days.

78. "Scheduling parent-teacher conferences... hassle"
In response to Reply # 0

actually the elementary school was super easy this year, with an online signup and clear communication about when signups could start and plenty of availability. Great.

Middle school, though.

We get a letter home that starts with 'communication between parent and teacher is an important contributor to each student's achievement in school.'

It then goes on to say that conferences are 15 minutes each and are available on Tuesday the 24th between 12:55 and 2:50 pm, then again on 11/30 from 1:00-835 pm. We can only meet with one core teacher.
So each teacher can meet with a grand total of (I'm assuming a few rest periods or something since those aren't even multiples of 15 minutes) 37 parents max.

On top of that, to schedule we had to call today only for my kid's grade between 8 and noon (or between 1 and 2:30 pm).
I got through around 11. My first pick teacher was already full, and my kid's IEP advisor was already full as well.

Pretty lousy system for getting set up for 'an important contributor to each student's achievement in school.'
