Actually I voted that i didn't think it was racist but the ad is just terrible.
Eh i would have never thought the ad would be considered racist if it wasn't for some stupid okp post where someone posted the lyrics a long time back and asked if they were racist or not. Combine that with how overtly white the ad is and i just thought it was funny or something.

Not sure how old you are or how familiar you are with Weezer/90's alt music.
In 1993 (or whatever year 'Buddy Holly' was)....it was really cool to be nerdy. Nerd-chic I think it was called? Everybody had t-shirts that said 'loser' on them and such. Weezer were self-proclaimed nerds and totally part of that trend. Self-deprecating humor was the order of the day in that scene along with irony.
So, my best guess is that River Cuomos thought that it was ironic for someone like him to use what at the time was considered to be 'hip' slang. A nerd that's getting picked on (another very popular motif of that scene and time...."everyone made fun of me in high school") who is using 'hip' slang. Irony and self-deprecation...all wrapped neatly in a package.
I honestly don't think he was trying to refer to black people. It was a nerd using 'hip' slang gag.
I am obviously reaching and i don't really spend my time analyzing weezer lyrics, but would you put it past that reclusive Harvard drop out to purposefully get white people to dance and sing to some racist stuff and write it off as being ironic or alternative?
