"Poll question: what was Al B Sure's place in New Jack Swing?"
watched the unsung and AL B Sure was in that Terrence Trent darby and Maxwell first album wonder watch out steller career to come madness or so it seemed.
anyway strickly from a new jack perspective where is his place with new jack swing? remember his hook work with Heavy D and the boyz and the obvious nod to new jack swing on his first album and association with teddy riley.
Teddy Riley is the king of the NJS, and Al B is no more important than Keith Sweat in that regard. They both dropped around 87-88 and had a run of singles whose foundation was that YepYep

slow jams. He gave Tevin a new jack swing jam, but the other 3 are slow jam classics. He gave Jodeci a slow jam classic. The stuff he did with Usher sounded pretty Jodeci-ish.
His solo slow jams hold up, but how many of his big new jack swing solo's hold up? "Rescue Me"? nah. That could have went to someone else with more bass in their voice, imo. "Off On Your Own"? Okay that one holds up. So I don't know if he really was a necessary factor on the New Jack Swing side of things, but please educate me on other NJS work he's done with other artists.

>his album came out my senior year in highschool and al had >shit on lock
classic records Al was a part of (performing, writing, or producing), are slow jams. That's why I don't know if he was really a force in New Jack Swing. As far as NJS producers go, it's Teddy. As far as NJS performers go, it's Bobby, Keith Sweat, Guy, BBD, Heavy D, etc all before Al.
