After the first listen I thought it started strong. I like his more uptempo stuff. But then the end of the album sounds like his old shit that I can't stand. I had to turn Angel off before it finished.

I listened again and realized that like 3-4 of the first 5 songs sound way too much a like. Felt like they have almost the same melody.

I'm gonna give it a few more listens but... yeah that's where I'm at right now.

Real Life, Losers, Tell Your Friends, Often and The Hills sound nothing a like.

I'll give you that Acquainted sounds like a better version of Often where Often is more ratched and Acquainted is the nicer way of being ratchet lol Its written wayyyyy better. I don't know why they had those songs back to back but its whatever.

Acquainted is a big song. I kept wheeling that joint back

Girls in the 90s became Acquainted in similar to the way the song john Carpenter became the second half of Kiss Land (the song)

Like you said, he does the crossover pretty well and he doesn't lose himself entirely in the mix, it's a success for an artist trying different things and not simply throwing themselves into whatever songs the label pushes on them.

However the end of the record kinda falls off imho after the 50 Shades song..."In The Night" sounds like a watered down upbeat song like they tried to make a follow up single for "Can't Feel My Face" and the rest of the tracks finds itself in all in the same doldrums that started creeping in on Kissland.

Im kinda mad they ain't included "King of the Fall" since that's the most classic Weeknd sound the Weeknd sounded in years and it would be cool to hear some socccer moms blasting 'I make all of them swallow' on the way to Target.

after taking it in
less frivolous curse words but still enough that you don't forget
it's the weekend and much less of the outlandish sex tropes
(i swear at one point every song was about gangbanging a groupie)
more abstract-ish lyrics verses his very straight forward shit
tapping into that bad era michael jackson on tracks like shameless and in the night
i fuck with this album a lot.

The best joints already came out before the album dropped - for the most part.

Who has the credits? Did he write Tell Your Friends? Just wondering cuz he spittin thug bars about jacking fools for the Jordans but he don't strike me as that type. I wanted to LOVE that song but hearing that feather soft voice saying such things made me skip to the next track.

There's been a few times he's shouted out dudes who I presume to be big Toronto drug dealers on wax on songs here and there.

I was looking forward to it as well, from the snippets I'd heard, but then the extremely
silly lyrics just made it sound like a joke. "Everybody fucking, everybody fuckin, pussy
on the house everybody fuckin"... combined with the line about being the nigga
singing about poppin pills and whatnot -_- Shit's like some kind of parody.

HOB is a personal classic. It captured that sound perfectly. The next two projects were lesser versions of that. Kissland was him going "mainstream" (while still keeping his own style with it) but missed the mark. He's really hitting the mark with this one.
