It bothered me a little bit then but, as I reached my mid 20s, it din't so much. Seeing the compliments my mom got for hers, which had started growing at the same age of 14, just let me cook. It was a definitely a conversation starter and got me into many doors.

I think black men are under ALOT of stress but don't do anything to manage it. Sports, sex, music, weed and food seem to be the default cure alls. Alot of my black male friends look older around 40 somehting if they are stressed out. The carefree black men look amazing around mid 30's to late 40s.
I think if black men would seek healthy ways to manage stress, we would see a different outcome.
